Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I am extremely OCD, so I tend to be a grammar Nazi, but I will give constructive criticism. I do not see the point of me being a beta for your story if chapters are under 1000 words. If they are under 1k, then do it yourself, its way too short to have someone else do it. I ADORE MOD!Harry fanfictions with a passion, because then he has the chance to take a unique way into the other dimension, and also doesn't start out weak af and need to work his way up from too low. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I like fanfictions that don't rush things, and if the chapters take forever to get to a point, then it's fine, as long as they have some other plot to keep the audience entertained. I always take my time considering how each action could affect the plot in the future as well as checking if a said fact overlaps or doesn't make sense based on already given information. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I am a bit of a neat freak, so I have trouble reading stories that have no straight plot and meander from side to side with bad grammar and punctuation. I mean, come on! There can't be that many people on here who aren't out of kindergarten yet! And if it's short and you say that's why you rushed it, then NO! If it's short you should have time to go back and correct it, and if it's long, then you should double check as you write. |
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I prefer Harry Potter crossovers, as well as FMA: Brotherhood, Overlord, Avengers, and a few others on my main profile page. I would prefer an anime that I have seen, and watched fully and enjoyed. I have an EXTREME dislike for any plot that has a timetravel at the end that essentially resets the timeline and removes the plot completely, like in The Madoka Magical Girl Anime or whatever. The one with Kyuubi. The white cat-alien-immortal asshole bastard who pisses me off to watch more than any other character I know. |
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
I'm not against slash, but I do have trouble reading a slash story, just because I feel uncomfortable reading it. No offense to slash though, I can think of one or two good ones. Going with the line of slash, I am against Mpreg, just because I don't like the bs reading authors give as to why Mpreg happens. If you want an Mpreg, just make the character female. It's BS and frankly I feel ruins the character to have Mpreg in almost any situation. Also, stories with no conflict is another one. I really enjoy humorous docs, but when you have a semi dark story with no conflict past the main plot point, like making the character too OP to worry about said conflict, that's cheating through the plot, and the reader dislike it. (This list is getting longer, so hold onto your butts) I don't like it when an author writes a story and keeps putting in small ANs on the side to explain something. Just move those into one large AN at the end, or remove them. The audience can think for themselves. If not, then they can pm you and ask on their own. Also some fanfictions that don't explain things well enough suck, then I have to reference the wiki or go watch said show/book/anime to learnt he plot. I like it when characters cross dimensions and integrate into the other universe, so long as they don't ruin any canon pairings that are major. I dislike fics that have a character take the place of another one, such as a Harry is Loki fanfiction, or Harry is Ainz fanfic. Unless they take the place of their alternate self from that world. |
