I would have expected a bright boy like harry to find out how to continue with his school subjects while at hogwarts. He could have asked his old headteacher by letter.

That isnt how Hufflepuff reaches our common room but okay. Also, interesting story, though Harry's outlook on things is a little annoying.

I love this kind of AU, with a Harry who actually takes charge of his own life. I feel like Canon Harry is almost a non-character sometimes, as a result of the Dursleys training him not to ask questions or see himself as important. I think he subconsciously moulds himself to fit people's expectations, which is why their fluctuating opinions of him cause him so much stress. It would be interesting to see how this ridiculously optimistic Harry would deal with Snape and all the other bullies at Hogwarts!

The way you painted harry growing up he seemed a cert for Ravenclaw. Surely wanting friends isn't an exclusively hufflepuff trait, and of course his first wish was to learn a lot ravenclaw. And it would have made sense for him to explore continuing his non-magical education by home study, given he is such a bright child and already started on secondary education. Why stop at 4 chapters?
