kinda reminds me of a superstition in our culture of leaving (a part of?) your spirit behind wherein when leaving a place where there's the feeling that a supernatural event can happen, one would have to call out for his spirit that they were going home so it will go home with them

Heck no, she ain't no Mary Sue! Geez, pretty much everything's been canon so far except for Haku and Zabuza living up 'til the real Itachi came to town. It's not like she's suddenly got these major awesome techniques that literally can't be beat, really, all her ghosts can do for her is go into Tsukiyomi and be there as moral support, though she COULD use them to keep track of people and spy on them if she was clever about it (though seeings how she's pretty much exactly like an extremely eccentric Naruto who occasionally gives even better, less corny speeches that'd probably have to wait until after the timeskip). Honestly, everything she's done so far is EXACTLY what Naruto did in canon, skill-wise. How the hell is she supposed to be a Mary Sue?

Anyway, if you're looking for inspiration, read In Good Company by Weialala, though be warned- there is slash. Unconsummated pining slash, but I don't expect that to last 'til the end (though it might never actually MAKE IT to the end, the way it's been updating), but slash. Also, Sasuke is really angsty and severely depressed- which makes it a good thing he always has his four ghost buddies to gabber in his ear and refuse to go away! Even Naruto has to stop to eat and sleep and Sasuke can physically beat him or lock him out, but ghosts have all eternity and can go through walls! ...Anyway, yeah, Sasuke is pretty damn pitiful at the start of it and kinda maybe a little slimy but he gets better pretty damn fast and the fic is phenominal! Especially those last two chapters. It has a similar theme to yours so maybe it'll help you get your mojo back, and some ideas?
