Tertius711 chapter 1 . 1/10/2019
The idea of Valyria honoring hundreds of gods comes from Rome.
The Romana themselves worshipped the 12 Olympians, the Roman Gods but they also honored and worshipped other gods and they allowed freedpm of religion in Rome so long as said religions dont interfere with state affairs
Aki no hikari chapter 2 . 7/2/2018
I know this is in hiatus but I really liked it, and the idea of a true conquest of the seven kingdoms (or maybe just the nicest ones xD) looks really interesting. There's little known of old valyria so your worldbuilding feels very fresh and compelling.
Thank you for writing!
Guest chapter 1 . 7/24/2016
My guess is that most of the gods were gods they adopted from the people they conquered. Again, just like Rome. For example, the Romans adopted Mithra, the Persian God of War, and made him Mithris, the Persian/Roman God of the Legions. The Valyrians probably did the same.

Anon chapter 2 . 11/18/2015
The only thing I'd point out is that Daenys arrives on Dragonstone as a maiden in 114 bc so Aegon if this story is set pre-Doom timeframe Aegon would be like 5 or 6 and Eleana 2 or 3, just saying...

Good chapter and you continue to impress with your interpretation of Valyrian culture and I agree with you on the sorcery... as Marwyn (?) said, Valyrian Sorcery was rooted and fire and blood and none of that is pleasant at all. Great wotk although I notice Rhaenys and Visenya aren't in this version...

Definitely caught my attention with this story. Always been fascinated with Old Valyria of our world. It's like Rome, as you noted. Say what will will about its society, but its destruction plunged the world into the dark ages.

It also caught my attention because I have a 15,000 word story I wrote a few months back contemplated an alternate universe where Aenar Targaryen managed to convince several other dragonlord families of the coming Doom, and thus together they were able to hold the Freehold together after Valyria's destruction. Definitely different from your story. Both the culture of Valyria and the political system is a bit different. I ended up separating from the Rome similarities to try and create a more unique Valyrian culture, but still seeing how you did it was fascinating.

Hope you keep up this story. Definitely hope a bit more of valyrian magic, culture, and architecture survives. Not everything, but it would be cool to have the knowledge of how to shape stone remain so that more Dragonstone-esque castles and palaces could be made in Westeros.

This is actaully a pretty great idea and an exploration into Valyrian culture, land and people that I really haven't seen here. I also imagine Valyria would be based on a Roman model so please keep up the good work he and I can't wait to see what you come up with next.
