Reviews for The Lion Awakens
sugoijack9 chapter 5 . 4/5
Finally, humans should never joined this a-hole alien freaks.
Guest chapter 7 . 7/5/2018
There is a vast difference between reliance and adopting things. It's also a matter of competition. Without intervention, stupid decisions won't survive while smart decisions thrive.

Basically, if the costs don't match the benefits, then it doesn't matter. Only an idiot will demand things without merit. Only if the benefits exceed the immediate costs does one need to consider the longer term potential costs against benefits.

This can go badly. Nauru is the most obvious example, but that is a matter of comparing apples to apple orchards.

Nothing that was said in the story was anything special, in spite of my rant against that. It's totally something that's at home with the fiat of LoGH though, where someone applying basic tactics are often treated like geniuses. This is the economic equivalent of everyone being totally baffled by the idea of defeating an enemy in detail.

In short, individuals, organizations, and states all either make or ignore those kinds of considerations all the time, to various results, and pretending otherwise is worthy of ridicule but nothing exceptional to the setting.

Great story. Love Legend of the Galactic Heroes. Remember watching bootleg VHS copies back in the day. Haven't seen it in over 30 years.

Interesting premise of mixing the two Universes. Found it very cool.
Vanessa Masters chapter 6 . 4/4/2018
I’m glad the council is being reasonable.

The admiral sighed and reclined his command throne. "I'm glad that the Turians or at least their allies are willing to seek peace…" he said, staring up at the star-scape depicted on the screens above the bridge. "…but still, blue-skinned alien women…? The universe has a sense of humour it seems."

"Sir...?"

The admiral turned his eyes to his adjutant. "I take it you've never encountered science fiction like Galaktische Saga before, lieutenant…?" he asked.

The lieutenant blinked and then his eyes widened with realization. "I see your point sir." He said.

The admiral chuckled. "I thought you would." He said

—-

I admit I snorted a laugh at that part. Yes, blue skinned women.
Axcel chapter 8 . 9/23/2017
Just like always, the Asari fail to realize that long-term plans are made of numerous short-term plans. The Asari always make long plans but those are frequently and easily foiled because they never account for the short-term.
gabe.d.clark.1997 chapter 5 . 12/19/2016
Oh there's plenty of theoretical uses for element zero besides FTL. It controls mass(not gravity, directly) so all those equations we have lying around become a lot more fluid. Admittedly a reason for technological stagnation because of a lack of interest in figuring things out instead of trying to change everything to suit yourself, but slippery slope fallacy is still a fallacy and should be worked around.
gabe.d.clark.1997 chapter 4 . 12/19/2016
Correction: Eezo technology is the most simple technology because it doesn't require complex structures to create their effects. This is the main reason the Citadel and the Mass Relays still work Billions of years after construction with only slight maintenance in 50,000 year cycles. It acts more akin to a tech amplifier so the quicker it's discovered to weaker the civilization for the reapers to pick off. Sorry about the rant it's just that everyone's always going "It's a Trap!" and thinking it's bad, when the real trap is giving it to people that barely understand the universe yet.
Axcel chapter 7 . 12/3/2016
I'm further amazed by the Council's stupidity. Match the Empire's industry and economy? The Citadel species are all so far behind that by the time they reach the Empire's current level, the Empire will be a hundred times stronger than it is now. They quite literally aren't capable of ever catching up. Plus, they haven't progressed for thousands of years, so knowing about hyperspace's existence and stuff is not going to help them. They've proven themselves to be utterly incapable of scientific and social progress. Plus, they just aren't creative enough to do more than drift along until they with and die.
Axcel chapter 7 . 12/3/2016
What the asari fail to realize is that if there was strife in the Empire, even if the Council were innocent of it, the Empire would still conveniently blame them and declare war, further unifying humanity.
Axcel chapter 6 . 12/3/2016
For the record, the Hierarchy is ALWAYS mobilized and in full war mode. They are simply one single military with its own production facilities. Nothing more or less than that.
Axcel chapter 5 . 12/3/2016
What do you mean by "greater galaxy"? Citadel space holds a few dozen worlds scattered more-or-less randomly all over the galaxy. Have you seen a map of Legend of the Galactic Heroes galaxy? We INHABIT two arms worth of space in the galaxy. You've certainly nailed the scale of naval combat in LOTGH but still.
Axcel chapter 5 . 12/3/2016
Kinetic barriers do not activate in melee. Partly because blows move too slowly to be considered a threat, partly because the mass would be too great to stop. Oddly, this doesn't happen in the game despite the game and back lore claiming it should.
Axcel chapter 4 . 12/3/2016
Actually, those crossbow shots have too much mass to be stopped by infantry kinetic barriers. Barriers work by creating mass effect fields which match the mass of an incoming mass. That is why ME missiles move past kinetic barriers by increasing their mass. Coincidentally, that is what leaves them open to guardian fire, too.
Axcel chapter 3 . 12/3/2016
Energy weapons do NOT cauterize wounds! Why do writers always put that!? It causes the target's fluids to EXPLOSIVELY flash-vaporize! Hell, in the case of lasers, it also causes the area around the struck point to flash into plasma (also explosively) and spread outward through the struck surface (further explosively). Very little cauterization results from being hit by any kind of directed energy weapon. Nowhere near enough to stop you from bleeding out, either. To say nothing of heat-trauma screwing up your body's ability to heal anyway.
Gafgar chapter 9 . 9/13/2016
I noticed this in an earlier chapter, but it stuck out as particularly notable now: you keep using the word "Protean", but the canon name for them in Mass Effect - unless I've somehow slipped back into the Berenstein universe without noticing - is Prothean. I'll chalk this one up to auto-spellcheck error.
