Many of the boys who consider themselves grown, found their Pa did not agree. Joe being inconsiderate and then the boys tormenting the younger children learned they are not too old for punishment yet. Joe had a difficult day, the discussion in the barn, having the knowledge his girlfriend would hear of his actions, being walloped by Hop Sing with a wooden spoon and nearly losing much of his money to a crafty little sister! It just was not one of Joe's better days.
In some ways, it worked out well for him at the dance the next night. Sally Ann not wishing to dance with him was lucky. Somehow, I just don't think Joe would have felt much like moving his legs around. He would have been quite sore after dancing that night if she had him to be her partner.

All of Cat's friends must be thrilled to have her family be rich. They get taken to the big city, get new toys, new clothes, elegant meals both in the city and at the Ponderosa. Soon they may even meet the President and First Lady. At their ages, the kids may not be as impressed with meeting the President as their parents would be.

Lucky for Joe, his Pa intervened on how he was to get home. Cat was determined he ride in the surrey or walk. The others need to make note, 'Do not get on Cat's bad side.' She is fierce when angry. If she is like this at nine, look out when she hits the teen years!

I do believe that others share the opinion that an author is better able to develop both characters and plot when a quality story is lengthy. Thanks for continuing to write Bonanza stories. What a relief for Cat now knowing that William and Thomas won’t be back at school, but Annabel well she’s another matter altogether isn’t she ? Although I doubt Bens warning will stop Cat from sorting her out if need be, so I foresee Cat getting into trouble over her very soon, and how lucky is she to still be having all her friends over and going to town with her and her family, she’s a lucky girl. I laughed too when Ben read Joe and Hoss the riot act over not doing the work that they had been asked to do and Cats two dogs sorting him out for her, which Ben knew would happen

None of the boys in Ben Cartwright's world get by with misbehavior, his own or the town kids. The town tormentors are going to be miserable for a long time because of their actions.
It seems two young men named Hoss and Joe have lost their memory. If they had memory they would have known not to be so foolish as to shirk their assigned job. Just because they are nearly men doesn't mean Ben will not blow a gasket, which is exactly what happened. Joe better watch himself with the attitude or the puppies won't be the only thing hurting his butt! Cat is making amends with Victoria. That was nice of her to let her aunt fix her hair.

I am beginning to not have such a high or favorable opinion of Cat. It was an ambush of Ben. I wished the story had been written differently. That she was acting the same way as she accused Ben of his comparison between Joe & Cat. It would have been interesting to structure the dialogue to show her that she was acting like a baby comparing Ben to the Marshall and expecting him to be, think and act the same. I think that could have led to a deeper understanding and more compromise between father and daughter. Just. A thought. But I love this story.
