i think you should give a read to ''systema'' from ''fat flying whale'' and ''Jaune arc class wraith'' written by ''outliner''

both of them do a good job when it comes to gamer fics by virtue of focusing on narrative rather than numbers

let me explain it a bit
narratively focused means that your writing is more aimed at describing the way events look when happen, rather than quantifying them

so instead of ''Jaune receives 100 damage'' the author writes ''i felt a spark of pain running through my body as the fire touched my skin,luckily my power was already healing it, weren't for it i would be dead by now

i gave an unfocused look at my HP,i lost around 100 points from that attack''

descriptions of actions are more valuable than quoting stats alone

then you have the way power works
I prefer synergy between powers and skills rather than having power for each single possible need

for example, instead of unlocking a new power-up with armor-piercing rounds against an armored enemy
have the MC improvising them by using explosive attack followed by a normal arrow focused on the area damaged by the explosion

this shows that the gamer power is OP but isn't omnipotent, you still need the user to actively tinker and exploit it to maximize its potential in combat

then you have non-combat description of events
in a lot of gamer stories,we are told about how much the hero stats are growing,and we see on combat where they run faster,hit stronger etc
but outside combat we never notice this change

for example,jaune is kinda clumsy,but after focusing on agility stats for several months he would have both balance and precision in movement,a fact that people would notice

how would you show this ''changes'' on jaune behavior because the way his power grows?
describing events in wich the original jaune would have acted on certain way but currently wont because of his stats

a more charismatic jaune managing to make weiss laugh or smile because of charisma (without automatically falling in love with him tho)

as for your opinion on "Distortion", I happen to agree, hence why i never read past chapter 2. it felt seriously forced and, as you said, "emo". seriously, his new weapon translates to "eternal suffering"!
