I think you pegged Tennant's Doctor quite well- wouldn't he just be the guy on safari going on with factoids about lion habits, how many teeth they have, how varied (or not) their diet is, and walk smack into a lion's mouth because he wasn't looking? As you said, knowing isn't as important as applying that knowledge... and heavens above, you've fit his personality to a T.
