I really love this story.

An army runs on its stomach. Vader is scary.

It wasn't just melamine, it was also cut with urea cyanate which is a supplement used in cattle feed. On their own they are mildly toxic to humans, but when mixed they react to produce melamine cyanate which is deadly. The poisoned dog food scandal (that killed my dog) was from the same scam. Ethylene glycol used instead of glycerine in cough syrup is another one, and is in fact the reason the FDA was created. Lead paint in cheese used to be common, too, and the list goes on.

Oh boy, I remember when this scandal first came on the news. Not long after, my family visited and customs made clear the limits to buying dairy products, and after passing customs we saw the streets full of people offering to buy any dairy products we may be carrying. News was all about the Chinese government either introducing new measures for quality control or threatening to arrest any lawyers offering to help the victims sue. It was horrible, I was a kid and living in another continent so was not truly affected, but this story really brought those memories back. Your writing is amazing I’m normally not a fan of OCs and still I was really cheering on the characters. That it was short and to the point without going crazy on flowery words or padding made it even better. Love that ending that showed a lighter side of what the consequences of such an event could be.
