Don't worry about tomorrow
'Cause these walls will never fall
I just want to let the world know
What we got's unbreakable
We got it under control
We're good, we're solid, we're gold

Simple Plan "Boom"

The celebration was over. At least the overt celebrations. This victory was going to stay with people for a long time.

And as it should. This was the first time they had taken it to the Cylons and won. Not only did it give them access to fuel, but it also provided hope that maybe they could survive against the unsurmountable odds.

As he walked along the flight deck he looked up at his Viper. These ships were the key to that hope. Without the fighter jets, the Cylons would wipe them all out in a heartbeat.

Reaching up, Lee ran his hand along the hull as he walked. He had always been proud to be a Viper pilot. Of course that had always been because of his father's views. It had a great deal to do about trying to win his father's approval.

That was different now.

Now, he knew how important this role was. They were the protectors of the fleet. They were the warriors of the fleet. They were the first and last line of defense against the Cylons.

He was proud to be a Viper pilot. He was proud of the pilots that served under him. He would defend each and everyone of them with his last breath, just like they all defended the fleet.

Today they had earned the victory. Tomorrow that could all be forgotten if the Cylons attacked again. If that happened, the outcome of that battle would determine how they were viewed by the people.

In the view of the people, they were only as good as their last battle, but in his heart, Lee knew the truth. They were the best of the best. They were the defenders of the human race.

And they would do their job until they took their last breath.
