Perfect Silver

Her hair was like perfect silver.

That was the first thing Monaco had ever noticed about Belarus.

Later, she had discovered other things that made the nation beautiful. Her piercing eyes, her absolute confidence, her rare smiles.

It hadn't taken a lot for her to develop a crush.

If Monaco was to be honest with herself, that was still all that it was.

Still, she liked to imagine that it was true love. That Belarus would one day notice her, even feel the same way about her.

It was nice to dream.

In real life Belarus never even looked Monaco's way.

Because Belarus was head over heels for somebody else.

'I love somebody, who loves somebody, who loves another.'

Still, that perfect silver haunted Monaco's dreams.

Whenever she saw Belarus, she would turn away. Hiding her feelings behind a mask was something she was well practised in.

She tried dating other people. When Seborga asked her out, she gave him a chance.

He was nice, but he didn't make her heart flutter.

Belarus wasn't nice.

Only, no matter how much Monaco tried, she couldn't get over her crush.

There was no denying that Belarus was mean, self-important and rude.

But watching her first from afar, to then trying her best to spend as much time near her during meetings as possible, Monaco noticed many good sides to her too.

Belarus was solitary, sure, that was mainly to hide her insecurities.

They talked sometimes, but the mask was on and Monaco was only ever a colleague. Not even a friend.

The other nation had no idea what was really going on.

Sometimes Monaco wished her poker face wasn't so good.
