Chapter 11
Loki lay with Sigyn in his arms. He could feel her soft steady breath on his chest as he stroked her long blonde curls soothingly despite the fact that she had fallen asleep some time ago.
His eyes looked around the room and he unconsciously pulled her closer as his gaze flickered across the red silk he had torn from her body earlier. He understood that she had been wearing his brother's colours for his birthday, but that didn't mean he had to like it. As soon as they had returned to their rooms after the feast he had aggressively dismissed Amma before slamming the bedroom door and pushing Sigyn up against it to roughly kiss her.
He felt himself begin to grow hard again as he remembered the way she had cried his name as he rocked between her warm thighs.
Loki turned so his nose was buried in her hair. He pressed a kiss to the pale blonde locks as he breathed in her scent. She was the one person who he believed to have complete unswerving loyalty to him. All his life he had felt second best in everything. Everyone viewed him as being in his brother's shadow. Everyone saw Thor as more important. Everyone cared about Thor more. Everyone except Sigyn.
He had been jealous of Thor in so many ways, but now he had something for him to be jealous of.
Loki breathed a content sigh as he decided to get some sleep.
He hadn't had his eyes closed two minutes before an urgent banging loudly shook the bedroom door.
His wife shot up from his arms, her blue eyes wide and staring. When he saw the bed sheets start to turn icy where she was gripping them he stroked her arm comfortingly before getting up and pulling on a pair of trousers to see who was on the other side of the door.
When he opened it he revealed a distraught looking Amma. Her eyes were red from crying, her cheeks still wet with tears, and she was shaking.
Sigyn rushed over to her, gripping the covers around her naked form, and spoke to her gently, but with an underlying tone of surprise in her voice. "Amma? What is it? What has happened?"
"I-I-I am sorry, My Lady," the maid sobbed. "I-It's my b-brother."
Sigyn squeezed her hand. "What has happened to your brother?"
Amma tried to get the words out, but she ended up crying so hard that she couldn't speak. Sigyn led her over to one of the chairs in the main room and consoled her as she cried into her shoulder. Loki stood to the side, slightly annoyed that their night had been interrupted. Sigyn shot him a glare when he sighed.
Eventually, Amma managed to get everything out. Her brother was a type of amateur physician and had gone to Muspelheim of all places to look for different plant types that could be used as medicine. He was meant to return a few days ago, but Amma hadn't heard anything from him thus becoming more anxious and worried as the hours ticked by. Sigyn and Loki had shared a cautious look when Amma had mentioned where her brother was. Muspelheim was the realm of fire, the dwelling of the Fire Demons. It was safe to say that that particular race was not in allegiance with Asgard.
"I-I didn't know who else to go to, My Lady." Amma was still sobbing lightly.
Sigyn shushed her. "Don't worry. I will do what I can."
Loki's head snapped up at that. "Sigyn, could I have a moment, please?"
His wife sighed, knowing what he was about to say. She reluctantly stood and followed him back into their bedroom.
As soon as the door was closed Loki started speaking. "No one is going to Muspelheim to retrieve that fool."
"We can't just leave him there. What if he's lost or stuck somewhere? What if the Fire Demons have imprisoned him?"
"If they have found him then he's already dead."
"Shh!" She didn't want Amma hearing such things. "We have to help him. What if it were Fandral or Thor? We wouldn't leave our brothers there."
"Our brothers aren't there, and this man has no relation to you. You have never even met him."
"No, but I am friends with his sister. I can't do nothing. Not with the state she is in." She moved over to the wardrobe and rooted through it, trying to find suitable clothes to wear for Muspelheim.
He marched over and grasped her arms tightly. "You are not going, Sigyn."
"Yes I am." She tried to pull away, but he was too strong. "Loki, please," her voice softened. "Let me go. I've never been friends with someone before. I've never been needed by someone before. Please, let me do this for her."
He could see the tears in her eyes as she spoke of the way she had been isolated as a child. "I don't trust her," he whispered.
Sigyn rolled her watery eyes. "Then come with me. Just don't make me stay."
Loki narrowed his eyes. He didn't want to treat her as her father had done. He wanted to earn the loyalty and admiration she felt for him. But… Muspelheim. He took another look at her pleading face and sighed, nodding in defeat.
She threw her arms around him and pressed her lips to his, it was the first time she had initiated a kiss. "Thank you," she spoke gratefully when she pulled away.
Once the pair of them were dressed Sigyn went back to Amma whilst Loki went to find his brother. If he and Sigyn were going then he wanted a group of warriors going with them and Thor would be more than willing.
It turned out, unsurprisingly, that Thor was more than eager, and he quickly gathered Lady Sif and the Warriors Three to travel to Muspelheim.
After they had collected Sigyn and Amma they all made their way to the Bifrost. As always, the gatekeeper had the same unsurprised expression on his face when they arrived.
"Heimdall," Thor took the lead, "we plan to travel to Muspelheim. Sigyn's handmaid says her brother is lost there and we go for him."
"You haven't seen him have you?" Sigyn spoke, her arms wrapped around Amma.
"I see many Asgardians pass through Muspelheim. I am afraid I do not see the one you are looking for. Most venture to the mountains so I will drop you as close as I can."
Sigyn squeezed Amma's shoulder as she felt the maid tense at the gatekeeper's words.
"Still, we must try. Come, Heimdall, let us pass." Thor started to walk closer to the Bifrost, and the others followed.
Soon enough they were once again flying through the air. Sigyn didn't feel as nervous about it this time. She had much more important things on her mind.
When they landed in Muspelheim the first thing they noticed was the suffocating heat. The whole terrain surrounding them was jagged and rocky with the occasional flow of lava running through it. It was a dark place, the ominous orange glow the only source of light.
"We should be on our way, someone is sure to have seen our entrance." Loki spoke, striding to take the lead, heading towards the mountain range. As they got closer the rocks became denser, giving them better coverage.
Sigyn held tightly to Amma's hand, the heat making their palms sticky with sweat. The princess sent a small blast of cold air through her hand in an attempt to help her maid cool down.
After trudging across the rugged ground for an immeasurably long time they finally reached a cave that led into one of the mountains.
"Should we enter here?" Fandral questioned.
"Of course." Thor was eager to agree.
"I am not so sure," Sigyn spoke quietly. She pointed to the ground just inside the cave. "I thought this area wasn't populated, but it appears so." The others observed the numerous sets of footprints left in the gritty mud.
"Maybe it isn't populated. Maybe this is where my brother is." Amma rushed forward into the cave.
"No! Wait!" Sigyn quickly chased after her, worried for her safety.
"Sigyn!" Loki followed his wife, annoyed at her foolishness.
Just as Loki stepped foot in the cave dust and small rocks started to trickle down from the roof. His eyes widened and he rushed towards Sigyn, throwing her to the ground and covering her body with his as the cave mouth collapsed just behind them.
It wasn't until the dust cleared that Loki rolled off his wife, the pair of them coughing from the lack of fresh air.
His green eyes scanned her sharply. "Are you hurt?"
"No," she gasped, sitting up beside him. "Are you?"
When he shook his head the pair of them stood up, Sigyn desperately looking around for Amma.
"Amma? Amma! Where are you? Are you alright?"
A muffled voice came through the rock wall. "Brother? Is everyone alright? Brother!"
"Thor! Sigyn and I are fine, we can't find the maid."
Volstagg's voice came through next. "You don't think she's…"
"No, she was ahead of us. She has to be further into the cave."
"Stand back, the pair of you," Thor bellowed, "I will strike through these rocks."
"No!" Loki yelled. "If you do then the rest of the cave will collapse on us."
Loki thought silently for a moment, trying to devise a plan on how they could re-join the others. He was broken from his thoughts when he heard Sigyn gasp. He spun around to see what she had spotted and his heart skipped a beat. A group of seven or eight Fire Giants were making their way towards them, their ugly stony faces smirking as they neared the pair.
Loki swept out his arm, pulling his wife behind him. "Stay back," he spat, dropping into a defensive stance and reaching for the knives in his belt.
A cruel, gravelly laugh erupted from one of the creature's throats. "I think not, Asgardian." He stepped forward, his feet falling so heavily that they made the ground shudder.
Suddenly, a flash of blue came from behind Loki and the advancing giant was covered from head to toe in ice. The prince felt a flicker of pride for his wife before lunging forward to meet the rest of the oncoming giants, creating several illusions of himself to confuse them.
Despite having her powers, Sigyn had no weapons and had yet to have any skills with them. She quickly created an ice blade and thrust it at a giant that had slipped past Loki. He grabbed it in his fiery fist.
"Fire melts ice, witch." When the demon opened his fist from the blade all that remained was water that soon evaporated. He punched Sigyn's chin, sending her to the floor, teeth rattling.
Once her vision had sharpened again and the fog from her head had gone, Sigyn looked up to see the creature closing in on her. Before she could even think about casting another spell, one of Loki's knives appeared through its throat, sending the demon tumbling to the ground.
As soon as she was standing again another two giants were already advancing on her. Sigyn threw ice into the eyes of the one closest to her, disorientating it before thrusting an ice blade into its gut. The pair of fiery red eyes widened and it choked before dropping to the ground dead.
Sigyn pulled away from the creature, a sick feeling rising in her stomach as she stared into the lifeless eyes.
Suddenly her hair was yanked back and a pair of fiery arms wrapped around her from behind, a rusty blade brushing along her throat. "Stop! Stop or I'll kill her!"
Loki's illusions vanished as his eyes connected with Sigyn's. He stood stock still for a few moments, knives in his hands ready to be thrown. He glanced between his wife, the jagged knife against her throat and the creature holding it there, pure fear washing through his green eyes.
His frozen stance only lasted a little while longer before he raised his hands into a submissive position, the knife slipping from his fingers. Immediately one of the giants strode towards him, punching him in the stomach causing him to double over.
"Loki!" Sigyn screamed as the giant kicked him before grabbing his arms and leading him further into the tunnel.
Sigyn's captor soon followed suit. The pair of them were made to walk, getting deeper and deeper into the mountain until the tunnels appeared to become man made with rooms dug out on either side, large metal doors blocking their entrance.
They came to a room that was open. Both of them were thrown inside, it was now clear to them that the room was a cell.
One of the giants moved over to Loki and stripped him to the waist before chaining him to a large rock at the side of the room.
All of the Fire Demons started to retreat from the room. Just before closing the door the last one threw a wooden bowl at Sigyn, grinning manically at her confused expression.
When the door slammed and the bolts clattered shut Sigyn hesitantly picked up the bowl and studied it wondering why she had been given it.
Loki's whisper of her name caught her attention. She spun to face him and found him looking at a large black snake that had come slithering out of a whole in the wall just by Loki. It slithered its way up the rock Loki was chained to, its head poking out a few feet above the prince's.
It opened its jaws, revealing its sharp fangs. Just as a single drop of venom dropped towards Loki, Sigyn lunged forward with the bowl, catching the drop before it landed on her husband.
Loki stared with wide eyes at the wooden surface of the bowl a few inches from his face. His glance flickered to his loyal wife who was staring up at the snake with fear as she caught another drop of thick yellow venom.
"Loki," Sigyn whimpered. "The bowl, it's nearly…"
He looked at her with wide green eyes as he gave another desperate tug at the chains binding him to the rock.
They had been in the cell for hours and the acidic yellow venom was about to spill over. Sigyn desperately tried to calm her heart so that she didn't shake.
She waited as another drop slid from the sake's fang. That single drop was too much for the bowl to hold. The venom spilled over the side of the bowl and landed in a tiny splash right beside Loki's face. The rock sizzled where it hit.
The pair of them waited with baited breath for the next drop. They knew it would probably land on him this time. He couldn't be that lucky twice.
But it didn't come. Instead, something unexpected, but certainly welcomed happened.
Two pairs of eyes, one bright green, the other ice blue, watched as the snake slithered away from them and back into the small hole it had entered from.
A few moments later the sound of the bolts to their fiery dungeon unlocking echoed throughout the room. The iron door opened with a loud creak and one of the hideous Fire Demons entered.
Sigyn carefully placed the bowl on the ground and turned to face the creature, her husband's vulnerable form behind her.
The person who came in next shocked her beyond belief.
"Theoric?" Had he been taken prisoner too? Then why wasn't he being treated as roughly as they had?
It was only when Sigyn noticed the smug smile on his face that she realised something was wrong.
"Prince Loki, Princess Sigyn," he bowed patronisingly to each of them. "How do you fair?"
She stared at him in shock. "Wha-… I…"
He gave a dark chuckle. "This must be very confusing. Let me say it bluntly. Amma doesn't have a brother. There was no one for you to come and save. She only told you that to lure you here."
"W-why would she do that?"
"Because I told her to. I have made an allegiance with the Fire Demons. I wanted to trap you here. You see, my past plans were thwarted. Do you remember the rock trolls? Yes, that was me. The only inconvenience this time was your husband, but nothing that couldn't be dealt with. Oh, I see you haven't been burnt by the venom, My Prince. What a caring wife you are, Sigyn. All the more reason for me to want you for myself."
Realisation dawned on her. "Is that why you are doing this? Because I married Loki instead of you? Theoric, neither him nor I had any say in that decision."
"That's only a small part of it, Sigyn. Just because you married another does not make it impossible for me to breed you."
Her eyes widened and her heart froze with fear.
"That is why you are here. You have no idea how powerful you are, Sigyn. An Asgardian with the powers of a Jotun. It is incredible. We need more of you, and the only way of doing that without conspiring with the Frost Giants is to breed you. I'd prefer if they were my offspring. It ensures their loyalty to me and any plans I may have to use them."
Sigyn couldn't believe what she was hearing. "Y-you cannot do this. I won't let you! I will not do it!"
"I don't need your consent, my dear." He started to step towards her and grabbed her shoulders roughly.
"Let go of her," Loki growled.
"You are hardly in a position to be making demands. Oh! I just thought. It is useful that you are here. You can be our hostage." Theoric held out his hand to one of the demons who handed him a piece of silvery material. He then shoved it at Sigyn. "Put this on." He looked down at her menacingly and when she didn't move he spoke again. "Do as I say or I will make your husband drink every last drop of that venom you so helpfully collected."
She didn't need to be told again. She stood straight and started to slip the dress on.
"Not over your clothes," Theoric spoke, "take those off."
Her eyes flashed to Loki to see him scowling at Theoric. Sigyn turned her back on Theoric and started to unfasten the top she had on. It was only when she was fully changed into the dress, only faltering when Theoric had told her to remove all her clothes including her undergarments, that she saw the design of the dress. It was made of a sheer silver fabric that had multiple layers below the waist, but only one above making her breasts clearly visible. She crossed her arms over her chest as soon as she noticed.
Theoric smirked as he neared her and forced her arms down to her sides. "Say farewell to your husband, Princess." He shoved her towards the demon who held her securely and led her out of the room.
The last thing Loki saw before he lost sight of her was the terror in her crystal blue eyes.
Theoric crouched beside the prince and whispered to him, "Let us see whether you are the only one who can make her scream."
Loki jerked against his chains furiously. "I will kill you!" he yelled. "You will die for this!"
Theoric stood and left with the same smug smile he had entered with.
Sigyn was moved to a room that was almost empty. The only thing that the jagged stone walls surrounded was an oblong table made of a dirty black iron. When she was forced to lie on it by the hideous creature she noticed the round shackles welded to the sides of it. Her wrists and ankles were soon enclosed in them making it near impossible for her to move.
The demon left the room after it had completed its task, leaving only Sigyn and Theoric who had entered as she was being trapped against the table.
She watched him, her breathing heavy as he sauntered over.
"You must feel so vulnerable. Lying there, unable to escape." He trailed a finger from her stomach, up between her breasts, over her neck and chin until it finally touched her lips.
"I am sorry it has to come to this, Sigyn."
She couldn't stop a shiver rattling through her. "If you're sorry then you don't have to do this. There are other ways to get what you want. I never thought you capable of something this terrible. Please."
He shook his head. "There is no other way and even if there was why would I turn back now? Besides, from my point of view the means justify the ends." He stepped away and started to remove his clothes.
"Please," Sigyn whispered as he stripped. "Please."
He moved to the end of the table, looming over her. Placing his hands on her ankles, he started moving them further up her legs, gathering up the skirt of her dress at the same time.
Sigyn pleaded with him endlessly, not even stopping when he had revealed her womanhood. She forced her knees together with as much strength as she had, but it did no good. He was too strong.
As he spread her knees apart he climbed on top of her and her panic grew causing ice to spread across the room and the table.
An ice blade formed in her hand. Theoric looked down at it and laughed, not bothering to take it from her. Her hands were trapped. There would be no point.
Her heart was pounding so furiously that the thin material right over it could be seen moving. This could not happen. She couldn't believe that she was about to be raped. What had she ever done to deserve this?
That was when something inside Sigyn snapped. Fury filled her up until she was bursting with it. All her life she had been subjected to unfairness. This curse had been given to her before she was even born, an innocent child who hadn't had the chance to deserve that fate that she had been ensnared with. She had been made to grow up without her mother. Imprisoned in her own home and made to feel like a freak. And now it seemed that she would be raped. She couldn't stand any of it anymore. Her desperate cries of 'no' turned into cries of anger.
"No, no, no!" she yelled as he crawled up her body. She struggled furiously against her restraints as fractals of ice coated them.
"No!" she snarled. He smiled at her aggravation, knowing it would not stop him.
How wrong he was.
As he reached in between them and placed himself at her entrance Sigyn felt her power surge as it never had before.
He was bracing himself to finally push into her when suddenly her shackles broke from the ice. They shattered into pieces, freeing her hands, which she drove up to him, burying the shard of ice deep in his chest.
A gasp ripped out from his throat and he froze, staring down at her in utter shock.
Sigyn looked back into his dark eyes, her own as round as his. She saw the light slowly fade from his eyes as his blood trickled over her, but just before it extinguished there was a final dreadful spark.
With his last ounce of strength he pushed his hips forward, forcing his way inside her.
She let out a broken cry at the sudden invasion and saw the flicker of satisfaction in his eyes before the light finally left them.
She lay there for a few seconds, gasping at the pain, both emotional and physical.
After her hands fluttered around for a bit she eventually shoved at his shoulders until he rolled off of her and onto the stone floor.
Gasping with tears running down her cheeks, Sigyn managed to break open the other shackles and sit up. She tried to stand when she got off the table, but her trembling legs had no strength in them. She collapsed to the ground sobbing. She felt bile rise up into her mouth and vomited violently.
When she had finished coughing up all that was in her stomach, she rolled onto her side and everything went black.
