So I finally decided to stop being a terrible excuse for a human being and finally write the chapter I promised. So this is the Leia-centric chapter I promised in January. Sorry it took me so long to write anything. I've been pretty severely depressed since November, Feb-through-March was a really awful time for me. So, please read and enjoy. (also, yeah this is super short for me, but I hope you like it all the same)

August 18th, Five Years Post Galactic Empire

Mia stood in the middle of the clearing in front of them, pressing her hands to her eyes as she began to count. The game of hide and seek had started. Anakin walked away in silent, careful steps. Luke moved towards a tree to Leia's right, moving in loud, crunching steps. Nodding, Leia decided to move like her dad, quiet but swift. She moved towards the bush she had been eyeing. Why hide behind a tree like them when she could hide in a bush.

Besides, it was a pretty bush, with blooming pink flowers and she was really liking pink right now.

Crouching down, she crawled under. The branches of the bush scraped her skin. She didn't think of this when she chose the bush. But it was really dark, and there wasn't much to see, so maybe it was a good spot.

"Sixty!" Mia called into the air.

She let her hands drift away from her eyes and looked around. Turning around, she walked towards where Anakin had walked off to. It was like she knew exactly where he was, because she found the right tree immediately. Leia figured she shouldn't be surprised. Her dad was never good at hiding, especially from Mia. Mia was super good at hiding though.

After finding Anakin, Mia walked around the clearing, circling the trees. Luke moved, angling himself around the tree so he remind hidden from Mia as she circled the trees surrounding the clearing. Mia paused, stopping to look at the tree with a slight smile and continued walking. Did she know? She was Mia. She knew everything.

The sound of crunching leaves behind her made Leia jump a little. Leia held her breath. Mia was close, close enough to find her. Mia kept walking though, circling the clearing again. The second time she walked to Luke's tree, she was able to magically see him, even though he was hiding on the opposite side of the tree, away from her. She poked his shoulder, giving a warm smile.

"Found you," She greeted gently.

Luke let out a whining sound. "But I picked the best hiding spot."

"Yeah, you really did," Mia said encouragingly. She looked around the clearing. "You can come out now Leia."

Leia crawled out from under the bush and dusted herself off. Mia and Anakin gave her funny looks. Mia hurried over, kneeling down in front of Leia.

"You have scratches all over you," Mia pointed out in concern, looking Leia over.

"It was a very scratchy bush," Leia explained.

Mia let out a rushed sigh. She looked like she wanted to laugh but she didn't laugh. Leia wished she had though, she thought it was funny, Mia should laugh.

"Come on, let's get you cleaned up," Mia decided.

She picked up Leia, carrying her back to the cabin. Anakin and Luke trailed behind.

"I still say you cheat," Anakin commented to Mia.

Mia looked at him with an innocent smile. "I don't know what you're talking about," She replied sweetly, winking.

"I think Daddy's just not very good at hiding," Leia piped up, grinning.

Mia laughed, nodding. "No, he's really not," She agreed.

When they reached the cabin, Anakin opened the door and motioned for Mia to take Leia in first. Mia took Leia to the kitchen and set her down on the wooden table. Anakin walked up with Mia's doctor bag, or at least that's what Leia called it. Mia opened it up and pulled out the bottle of the awful smelling, stinging stuff Leia hated so much. Dampening a cotton ball with it, Mia cleaned each little scrape and added the 'anti-bacterial' or whatever it was Mia called it.

Anakin decided to take Luke upstairs to play. Leia could kind of guess that her dad really just wanted to give her and Mia some space while Mia fixed up her cuts.

Leia winced, leaning away from the wet, slightly pink cotton ball. Mia apologized quietly and continued to go over it.

"I hate this stuff," Leia whispered.

"I know, me too," Mia replied, glancing up at Leia with gentle grey eyes. "But I hate infections more and I know you got dirt in some of these cuts, so they need to be cleaned thoroughly to stop any infections."

"What happens if you get an infection?" Leia asked, curious.

Mia looked up at the ceiling. "It depends on the type of infection, how someone got it, how it's treated." She explained, returning her attention to the cuts on Leia's knee. "Cuts like yours, if they get infected get red and puffy. The cuts start to hurt a lot worse. They don't heal as quickly. If it gets bad you can develop puss in your cuts. It's not good. It's very gross."

"How gross?" Leia asked, curious.

Mia laughed. "I've seen grown Jedi vomit and pass out at the sight of it," She answered.

Leia nodded. Though she still wasn't quite sure about the difference between sleeping and passed out. She knew 'passed out' was what her dad was a lot when he was in the infirmary a month and half ago. Passed out looked like sleeping though.

Mia pressed fresh bandage strips to Leia's cuts and declared her good to go. Jumping off the table, Leia rushed up the stairs to go play with Luke.

August 20th, Five Years Post Galactic Empire

Leia couldn't go back to sleep. Again. She could go to bed fine, but she sometimes woke up in the middle of the night and couldn't fall asleep again. It wasn't because she had a nightmare, not like her dad, who had nightmares so bad he couldn't even think about going to bed. Though, Leia knew he tried to hide that. She didn't know why though.

She didn't have a nightmare, so that wasn't why she couldn't sleep. She just had too much energy sometimes. With a sigh, Leia reached over and turned on the lamp by her bed. She held her hands to her eyes, squinting at the light. Her nightlight was really soft and orange and you could barely see it at night, so it was a lot different from her lamp. Sliding out of bed, Leia pulled the blanket off her mattress and wrapped it around herself like a cloak, similar to what her dad had.

Out of her bedroom, she slowly opened Luke's bedroom door. Sometimes he didn't go to bed right away, but he'd been getting better about that since they moved here. He seemed to be asleep though. Leia tiptoed over his toys, but her blanket cloak knocked everything down anyway.

"Luke, wake up," Leia whispered, gently shaking her brother's shoulder.

"Leia," Luke whined sleepily. "Go back to sleep."

"But I can't sleep," Leia whispered. "I'm bored."

Luke sighed and rolled over. "Go play in your room or something," He mumbled.

"Luke!" Leia whined, climbing onto his bed. "Please!"

He huffed and rolled over, looking up at his sister. "What do you want to do?" He asked, groaning as if he was being put upon. He felt like he was though.

Leia pressed her lips together and thought it over. "Hmm… can we build a castle with the blocks?" She suggested.

"Sure," Luke mumbled. "But we gotta be quiet. Daddy and Mia might wake up. Then we'll get in trouble."

Leia nodded. Reaching over, she turned on Luke's lamps. He groaned, covering his eyes with his hands in the same way Leia had, but following it up by pulling a blanket over his head. Ignoring him, Leia walked to the bin where they kept the blocks she and Luke shared. She cleared out a large space on the floor and sat down, getting herself comfy.

"Come on Luke," Leia prodded from across the room.

Luke got up and slid out of bed. Joining his sister on the floor, he took a handful of blocks. They mapped out the outside perimeter of the castle. Their dad had taught them that the best castles had high walls and lots of protection. Slowly they built the towers of the castle and planned out where everything in it was, like they could picture the inside of where everything would be. Leia based it off one of her favorite picture books about the Queen of Naboo. Her dad liked to read that one a lot.

When they finished building the castle, Luke decided he'd rather color. Leia decided to join him. Secretly, she always thought he was better at coloring than she was. He made better pictures. She made better make believe stories though.

After a little over an hour, Leia began to get sleepy and went back to her room. Luke went back to bed. By some miracle they hadn't woken Anakin or Mia.

Leia liked being at the school. A lot of interesting things happened there. She liked that every morning they would sing a good morning song and stretch a little to warm up for the rest of the day. Then their teacher would give little announcements. Like what day of the year it was, what they were learning that day, what they would have for lunch, if someone had a birthday that week, and anything just special or important. Today they were going over some basic reading. Leia could already read a little. Mostly small words that she saw a lot, easy three letter words. She learned them from all the times Mia and her dad read to her. Luke was having a little bit of a harder time learning to read, but Mia practiced with him a lot now. Later they were practicing their numbers. After they got a playtime break. Leia and Luke went outside in the hot summer day to play on the playground. Luke liked the jungle gym the most. Leia liked the swings and the sand the most. After playtime they colored and did puzzle games. Then came lunch. Mia made them sandwiches with a little fruit salad and a small chocolate treat. They also got juice. Luke preferred milk over juice, so he traded a lot.

After lunch they played on the playground again. Then they all came back to the classroom and had nap time. Leia hated nap time most of all. She was never a napper. Luke wasn't much of one either.

She didn't think that was really bad though. Mia said she hated nap time too. Her dad said he hated naps too, but he didn't get them when he was little like she was now.

She remembered one night she'd overheard her dad and Mia talking about her and Luke. How they were getting bigger, older. They said she and Luke were showing certain signs. She didn't know what those signs were. Or if it was a good thing or a bad thing. That conversation made her think it was both good and bad. Like it was supposed to be a good thing, but it worried them.

When nap time was over they sat in a circle and listened to their teacher read to them. After that they played a little, colored, got to do creative stuff.

Then Mia stopped by to pick them up and they walked home.

August 24th, Five Years Post Galactic Empire

Leia bit her lip as she climbed up the tree. It wasn't easy, and sometimes she slipped a little. This was the highest she'd ever gotten though, and she was determined to make it up to the next big branch. Luke was such a good climber though, and he could climb this easily if he wanted. And Leia wanted to be as good a climber as he was, so she practiced a lot.

"Leia, be careful," Mia requested, watching her nervously.

Leia turned and smiled at Mia. "I will," She promised.

Digging her fingers into the little notch that poked out of the tree, Leia pressed her left foot into the side of the tree, tried to get herself higher. She was almost to the next branch. Almost. Just had to grab the branch and she'd be set.

The bark under her left foot cracked. Eyes wide, Leia lifted her foot and tried to find a new place to dig it in. The bark there was weak too. She couldn't reach the branch yet.

She let out a screech as she dropped to the ground. Something burned through her ankle and leg.

"Mommy!" She screamed, her eyes burning with tears.

Mia looked up in terror and sprinted to where Leia was laying on the ground. She understood as Leia clutched her ankle, holding her knee close to her chest.

"Hey, it's okay. I'm here," Mia whispered comfortingly to Leia. "Let me have a look at your leg."

Leia shook her head. "No! It hurts!" She shrieked.

"I know it hurts Leia. It's going to be okay though." Mia promised.

"No it's not!" Leia cried, tears streaming down her cheeks.

Mia gently placed her arms on Leia's shoulder. "Leia, I promise on my life, you'll be okay." She insisted gently. Placing her hands under Leia's knees and back, Mia gently lifted the five year old into the air. She cradled Leia to her chest as she carried her to the house. Leia pressed her head to Mia's shoulder, crying from the pain. Opening the door with the Force, Mia stepped inside. Placing Leia on the couch, Mia crouched beside her.

"I'm going to get an icepack to help with the pain." She whispered. "I'll be back in a minute."

Leia nodded, pressing her palm to her cheek to wipe away her tears. Mia was back in seconds, a blue packet in her hand. Gently, she placed it over Leia's ankle.

"What's that going to do?" Leia asked.

"It's going to numb your ankle so you don't feel the pain as bad. Trust me, it helps," Mia explained simply. She held up her hand, two small white pills in her palm. "Hold these, let me grab some water for you."

Leia took them from her and waited as patiently as she could for Mia to bring a cup of water from the kitchen. She did as Mia said and ate the pills without chewing. She didn't like them, they tasted funny and nothing like the sweet gummy vitamins Mia gave her every night after dinner. If it would make her ankle hurt less, it was worth it though.

"Okay, let me take a look at that." Mia requested.

Reluctantly, Leia allowed Mia to move the ice pack away. Leia didn't like the way her ankle looked, it was so different compared to her other foot. It was bigger somehow.

"That's a sprained ankle," Mia explained.

"What's a sprained ankle?" Leia asked.

"When you fell out of the tree, your ankle hit first and got hurt the most. When it gets hurt like that, it likes to swell up. Swelling means it puffs up, looks bigger. It's also painful and you won't like it being touched. It'll get better in a few weeks."

"A few weeks!" Leia exclaimed.

Mia nodded, frowning sadly. "You'll have to take it easy, play less." She explained. "You might heal a little faster. You're like me and your dad. You heal more quickly than normal people."

"What do you mean? Like you and Daddy?" Leia asked.

"Your dad and I are special. We have something in our blood that gives us special powers and abilities. Because he's your dad, you get his special abilities too. You don't have a lot of them yet, but you're going to get them as you get older. Healing quicker is part of that." Mia explained.

"What kind of special powers?" Leia asked, curious.

Mia reached down and pulled out a white fabric bandage. "You know how sometimes you know when someone's upset, even if they seem happy on the outside?" Mia asked.

"You mean like when Daddy's upset?" Leia asked.

Mia smiled sadly. "Yeah, like that." She answered as she gentle wrapped Leia's ankle in the bandage. "That means you can sense how others are feeling. A lot of people aren't good at that. They can't tell when someone's upset and hurting, but as you get older you'll start to feel it more strongly."

"What's another power?" Leia asked. Her eyes widened. "Can I move things with my mind like you?"

Mia laughed. "Not yet. You won't do that until you're a little older, but your dad and I are going to teach you." She promised.

"What else?" Leia asked.

Mia hummed, focused on her task of wrapping Leia's ankle. "You'll learn how to sense where people are around you. What I mean is, even if you can't see them, like if they're behind a wall or a tree, you'll be able to tell they're there."

Leia gave Mia a suspicious look. "Is that why you always magically know where we are when we hide?" She asked.

Mia laughed and nodded. "Yeah."

"You always find Daddy first," Leia added.

Mia grinned, looking up at Leia. "I like picking on him," She explained.

Leia hummed, thankful Mia didn't do that to her. That meant that maybe she let Leia win sometimes, or let Luke win sometimes. Leia didn't know how she felt about that. She always thought she was just a good hider.

Mia placed tape over the ends of the bandage and declared it done. She looked up at Leia with a stern look. "Now, no walking around. Your dad or I are going to carry you everywhere."

Leia sighed, annoyed at the idea.

"Just think about it as a royal treatment. Princesses get carried all the time in special chairs." Mia mentioned, trying to sweeten the deal.

Leia nodded, accepting it.

"Okay, let me put this away." Mia murmured, picking up the remained tape and scissors she'd brought down with her when she gave Leia the ice pack.

Leia nodded, but she looked down at the ground.

"Mommy!"

She'd said that out loud. For the first time. Mia didn't seem to notice though. Or maybe she didn't think it was important but it was very important to Leia. Mia was like a mom. She took care of Leia, always had. She cooked Leia dinner, walked her to and from school, played with her, read her bedtime stories, protected her, comforted her when she was hurt. That was stuff moms did. All her friends had moms who did that. Mia did that. So Mia was her mom. Right? It wasn't like Mia called herself Leia's mom, but Leia thought she was sometimes. Even if Mia and her didn't really look the same. Not like the way Luke and her dad looked the same. Mia had to be Leia's mom, right? Leia knew she had a birth mommy, but she died when Leia was little and Leia didn't even really know what she looked like or what she would have been like as a mom. Mia though…

"Mia?" Leia spoke up, looking up at the woman as she walked back down the stairs.

"Yes?" She asked, walking up to Leia.

"When I fell… and I called you 'mommy'…" Leia trailed off.

Mia smiled gently. "Yes?"

"Is it okay if I call you 'mommy' or do you not like that?" Leia asked hesitantly.

Mia grinned even wider and gently pulled Leia into a soft hug.. "Leia, I love that you called me that. I makes me happy," Mia promised. "You can call me whatever you want, as long as it makes you happy."

Leia grinned from ear to ear. "Okay." She whispered.

August 24th, Five Years Post Galactic Empire

Mia was sitting on the bed when Anakin walked in, freshly showered and changed into his sleeping clothes. She was staring at the wall behind him, clearly lost in her thoughts. Climbing into bed, Anakin placed himself in her line of vision.

"Want to talk about it?" He asked.

Mia smiled faintly and met his gaze. "Something incredible happened." She whispered.

Anakin gave her a skeptical look. His understanding of the day's events was that Leia hurt herself climbing a tree and couldn't walk on her own for the next few weeks.

"You and I might have different definitions of incredible," He pointed out irritably. "I don't know what could have possible been so great about today."

Mia sighed and looked at him. "Leia called me 'Mommy,'" She explained.

Anakin's eyes widen in shock. He sat back, trying to process it.

It didn't seem like it should have been as big a shock as it was to him. Anakin had repeatedly insisted that Mia was like a mother to Leia, in every way but genetics. She'd raised Leia almost as much as Anakin had, maybe even more since Anakin had spent a lot of Leia's early years working to provide for them. Still, a part of him always longed to know what Padmé would have been like as a mother. It was an experienced that had been robbed of them both in her death. The idea that Mia had replaced Padmé in any way brought up very complicated feelings for Anakin.

"That's…" He trailed off.

Mia frowned. "You didn't think that'd ever happened." She whispered dejectedly. "Do you wish she hadn't?"

Anakin's blue eyes flickered up, wide like he'd been caught red-handed somehow. Comparing her to Padmé usually led to an argument of some kind between him and Mia.

"No," Anakin decided after a long pause. "I want Leia to have a mom, and I want you to be the one in my life she looks up to. It's just sometimes I think about the what-ifs. I can't help it."

Mia frowned again. She could understand the what-ifs. She got them in different ways. What if she and Anakin had never been caught and forced to be apart. What if Anakin had never married Padmé. They'd never have kids together, and the idea of a life without Leia and Luke in her life was impossible to bear. Still, she wondered about the what-ifs of their relationship. Lately she'd been experiencing a new kind of what-ifs. What if her mother had never gotten sick and sent her and her brother away. What if her dad had been in her life a little more. What if she and Micah had been raised together. How would they be different? How would her absence in Anakin and Obi-wan's lives have changed their lives? Or even the future?

"I'm trying to understand," Mia whispered, looking down.

Anakin sighed and cupped her face in his hands. "Mia, look at me," He requested.

Reluctantly, Mia looked up at him, afraid of what he had to say.

"Regardless of how I feel on my off days, I will always want you in my life. I will always want you in Luke and Leia's lives. That will never change. Even if things had been different, I would still want you in my life. Okay?" Anakin whispered.

"Okay," Mia murmured. "Will it bother you if she keeps calling me that?"

Anakin looked away. "At first, probably. But I'll get used to it." He promised. "What really matters is that Leia has someone who loves her as much as you do, and that she's happy. And I'm so happy you've given that to her."

Mia smiled faintly and leaned in to kiss Anakin. Anakin grinned, kissing her back.
