Prologue

A thousand claws glinted red under the crimson, slitted moon. A thousand scarred pelts flashed by in the darkness. A thousand gleaming eyes pierced through the everlasting night.

Ten thousand stars died and fell away, down beyond the edges of the earth.

The atmosphere was dark and heavy, the sky was drenched by a dim, eerie scarlet light. The starlight hid behind the thick, ominous clouds that blanketed the blackened night. A mysterious fog floated just barely above the frozen earth and swirled around the dead trees like it was protecting the bare, grey-black forest.

Deafening roars boomed and blood-curdling yowls split the air. Blood splattered the smooth, shining surface of stone and hard, jagged bark, pooling down onto the earth and streaming away, melting into the darkness like nothing had ever happened.

A single twinkle in the moonhigh sky strained and struggled to be seen above the fog, above the claws, above the fangs and blood that stained the land. It started out strong, but flickered, as if sending a dying message to the ones below.

Jet-black stripes flashed through the trees like bits and pieces of a night sky. Golden-brown rings and blotches mixed in with the ginger and orange that sped through the tall grass.

Then the three clashed and collided, and death exploded into the forest.

The star faded, flickering golden, then silver, then at last, blood-red. An omen might've drowned out the battles, but it didn't, not this time. And so it vanished, vanished from sight, vanished from the past and future, and finally, the star seemed to call out into the night:

"Sometime else, it is better…"

A small figure wandered through the edge of a dark forest, his paws slipping silently by the shore of a calm stream. A vast, dark bowl of silver stars and moonlight washed over him, making him feel nothing but ever cold and alone.

His dark, striped pelt seemed to almost fade into the night, and the trees whispered his name in a quiet hush around him. It mixed in with the chilling breeze and they became one.

The young cat halted, his lips forming a tight, straight line, his expression a grimace. He slowly sat down, his paws tightly together, his ringed half-tail limply resting beside his paws.

He stared down into the starry water, as if searching for something long-lost. There was longing in his narrowed ice-blue orbs, yet that slightest hint had been covered up and hidden with fury, betrayal, and regret, and it burnt like a fire in a slit of ice.

"The Place of No Stars," he finally murmured, his mouth forming a crooked smile, more hidden to it than just what was on the surface. Suddenly, he threw his head back up towards the sky, yowling at the dark, dreary heavens.

"Take me home."

I'm just starting this random story and seeing where it goes! xD Might be good, might be bad, who knows? But I'll try to make it enjoyable and also suspenseful (I like suspense, hehe) and I hope it turns out okay. I don't expect you to review (although I'd like you to) since this is only a very short prologue. But more to come soon! Bye!

Warriors Fact-of-the-Day: Bluestar chose "heart" as a suffix for Firestar's warrior name not just because she liked him and trusted him a lot, but also because he reminded her of Oakheart.

(I'll just be posting some facts about Warriors on each chapter. Some you might know, some you might not. Still, it's fun.)
