DROWNING

Eyes fluttering open, Dean hissed when a stray beam of bright sunshine lasered through the poorly-curtained window, drilling mercilessly into his aching head. Grunting, he rolled just enough to blindly reach for the bottle of whiskey he thought to be on the nightstand, already anticipating the medicinal effects of a little post-binge "hair of the dog".

"It's not there." The voice cracked like a whip.

Dean winced, squinting at Sam. "What's not where?"

"That bottle of whiskey you're reaching for."

"What the hell is this—one of those namby-pamby interventions?" he muttered, his voice raspy.

"Does it need to be?"
