Story 4

Sick Day

I felt bad the moment I opened my eyes in the morning. My head ached and just trying to swallow hurt. I couldn't be bothered to get out of bed. That would have required way more effort than I was willing to put out. Getting sick was not very common for me, even simple colds. I had always been strangely good at avoiding catching sick. Guess my luck finally ran out.

So instead of a normal day in which I would have eagerly gotten out of bed and joined the crew for the adventure they called breakfast, I pulled my blankets up and over my head and snuggled back in. The heat and itchy feeling on my skin made it very uncomfortable and I drifted off into a light sleep.

The next time I woke up was too loud banging from the deck. Every ounce of me wanted to groan, stick my head under my pillow and ignore it but I eventually decided to get up and at least see what was going on. I wasn't even sure how long I had been sleeping for. So I sat up and swung my legs off the edge of the hammock. My head spun and combined with the rocking of the bed I pitched forwards, falling out and hitting the floor with a squeak, my blanket falling over me. The corner of it flopped into my face and I huffed, blowing it away. I took a moment to untangle my limps and with a brief moment of precious clarity in my foggy mind, checked to make sure I hadn't actually hurt myself.

All seemed to work fine. I lay there for a moment longer, actually considering just taking a nap here but quickly decided against it as another loud bang sounded from above me. Pushing myself up shakily I made my way to the ladder. My own breathing was making me uncomfortable, coming out much hotter then what I'd deem normal and my eyes refused to focus on anything in particular. I struggled my way to the deck, though the ladder felt a million times longer than it normally did.

Looking around I paused. Why had I come up here again? Shoot I couldn't remember… oh well, I had crawled my way out of bed so I might as well get some food. With that in mind I walked to the kitchen, trying to rub my eyes clear but failing horribly.

Sanji was in the kitchen as per usual, Nami and Robin were at the table discussing something. To me though they just sounded like those parents from that kids cartoon I couldn't be bothered to recall the name of. Started wit think…

Luffy and Usopp were playing a game of cards on the floor. They both looked up as I walked in and smiled.

"Oi! Asa! Come play!" Luffy grinned, waving his hand of cards in the air, not carrying that Usopp had a full view of them.

I stared at Luffy for a moment to let my eyes focus on him and I hummed quietly. I wandered over and without a shred of embarrassment I plopped down in Luffy's lap.

He tilts his head curiously as I curl up into a ball, head tucked under his chin and fist grabbing the front of his vest, and he blushes lightly. "Asa?"

I'm too lazy to do anything but groan in response.

Robin laughs lightly. "It seems Psychic-san isn't feeling too well today."

Luffy frowns and takes my chin in his hand, tipping my head up and gently pressing his forehead against mine. I sigh as his cool skin feels good on my headache. Any other time I'd be blushing and stuttering quietly, not able to handle the adorableness that is Luffy but obviously the cold was clogging my senses.

Usopp on the other hand was blushing horribly, trying to hide behind his cards, feeling like he was sitting in on a private moment or something. That thought caused him to blush harder.

"You're sick Asa!" He exclaims after another moment. "We should get Chopper."

Nami hums. "Chopper is still on the island Luffy, he probably won't be back until later tonight."

"What!? But what if she's sick like you were Nami!? What if she's dying!?" Luffy panicked, wrapping his arms around me. "Don't die Asa!"

I slowly reach a hand up and flick him on the forehead.

He pauses and blinks. "She's not dying." He snickers.

Sanji looks over at us. "I'll make her some soup to eat when she's feeling up to it."

I close my eyes and smile a bit. These guys were the best. I hadn't even needed to say anything since I walked in here and they've already got everything figured out. It was amazing really.

"I'll take care of her until she's all better!" Luffy says determinedly. He shifts and stands up, picking me up with him. "I'm going to take her to bed!"

Yep. The fact I didn't blush at that is proof enough I'm sick.

Everyone watches as we leave the room.

"I'll get working on her gravestone."

A frying pan is thrown into the side of Usopp's head.

Nami rests her head in her hand. "We should go find Chopper just in case..."

Luffy brought me to the infirmary which confused me. Of course I knew that in his head I was sick and sick people go to the infirmary to get better but I had still figured he'd take me back down to the men's quarters anyway.

It wasn't until he laid me down on the bed gently and crawled under the blankets next to me that I understood and couldn't help the smile on my face. After all, it was easier to cuddle in here than in a hammock.

"Go to sleep Asa." He kisses my head. "I'll be here if you need anything."

It was innocent and sweet and I don't think he realized how much that meant to me. Of course he didn't, because this was Luffy. And something like that was just simple knowledge.

With a smile I let myself sink into a deep peaceful sleep.

I will do another part to this, so don't worry. I want to see Luffy's taking care of sick people method as much as you guys ;)

Until Next Time!
