so, i am doing this challenge thing on tumblr. the first prompt is "beginning". here we go!

It's dark, but the sun is rising.

He opens his eyes and it's too bright, so he just closes them again, wonders what happened, because his head hurts and he can't remember anything.

Carefully, he tries to open his eyes once again and figures out that the bed he's laying in is not his own. The room's more colourful and feels happier than his own. The walls have a brighter colour and there are posters on them and the window is bigger and it lets more light into the room. Judging by the angle the sunlight hits his face, it's morning, and the slightly opened window lets a light breeze into the room. It smells nice here.

"Took you long enough to wake up again, Kai-kun."

Suddenly, there's a face really close to his and his first instinct is to flinch away a little, only to realize that moving apparently hurts. He feels feverish and kind of tired. The smile disappears from Aichi's face and he frowns, reaches for Kai's forehead and frowns even more.

"You're still really warm."

Kai blinks and wants to sit up, but Aichi's face is still so close, too close, and so he moves his head a little to the front – a little closer to Aichi's! – and waits for Aichi to move away and let him sit properly. While Aichi seems to understand what Kai wants, he doesn't draw back, but instead gently presses Kai back into the pillows.

"We're at my place. You collapsed right after our fight, so I brought you here, since you never really told us where you live." The frown fades from Aichi's face, as he leans back and sits down on the bed, his eyes never breaking contact with Kai's and he –

he's got that look in them.

That glint in his eyes when he summons Blaster Blade or talks about something he's passionate about. That look when he smiles his smile, that's not quite like the smile of anyone else; it's that shy little smile that doesn't spread all over his face, but it doesn't matter because you still know it's there and know that it's an honest smile, the kind of smile that makes you want to smile as well.

That smile only Aichi manages to make and that kind of smile makes him feel light and easy and okay again.

A smile that makes Kai start smiling, too. It's a smile that makes him feel like it's okay to start things all over once again.

"You slept all night, but now you're awake again, Kai-kun. It's a new morning, the morning of our new start together!"
