Chapter 14

"Hermione I swear to Merlin that if you fidget anymore I'll never be able to finish your hair and I'll hex you for wasting my time." Ginny was grumbling and working away on Hermione's hair as Draco snickered leaning against the door frame. "And you Draco, I'll kill you for laughing."

"What?! I think that's highly unfair."

"Alright I'm done, now Hermione don't touch it or else the soft curls I made will just die again. Oh and Draco, please refrain from sucking face and running your hands through her hair, I know you like to do that." Both Hermione and Draco turned to Ginny with shock on their faces. "What? I'm not blind, when Hermione's hair has gone from manageable to crazy in the space of a spare class I know it was you Ferret." Draco now wore a smug look and Hermione just sighed.

"Thanks Gin for helping me out." Ginny looked at her best friend and smiled.

"No worry 'Mione. Have fun tonight." With that she left the room. What have you gotten yourself into Hermione. I hope you'll be ok.

Standing inside Dumbledore's office the nerves had finally sunk in. He'd already wished them a pleasant evening and Draco had just stepped into the fireplace and floo'd to the Manor. Taking a deep breath she walked over and grabbed a handful of floo powder and announced her destination.

"Malfoy Manor!"

Stepping out of the fireplace and dusting herself off she looked around to find herself in a sitting room. Merlin, this place is nice. Suddenly she felt and arm wrap around her waist and turn her towards the door where Narcissa and Lucius were standing. Using all the Gryffindor courage that she had she politely smiled and greeted the couple.

"Mr and Mrs Malfoy. Thank you for inviting us to dinner."

"Oh please, call me Cissy. And it's our pleasure."

"Mother, Father. Lovely to see you."

After pleasantries the couples walked through the Manor to a dining room. The sheer size of it amazed Hermione and she wondered if it was truly necessary to have a room this large. Of course it wasn't necessary. Who the hell needs this amount of space to eat. They took their seats at one end of the table sitting across from one another. The meals were brought in by house-elves and over the course of dinner Draco and his Mother chatted whilst Hermione and Lucius remained quiet and only spoke when needed.

"Hermione dear, how are your studies coming along?" Narcissa looked at her over the cake they were eating for dessert.

"Quite well thank you." A small smile appearing.

"Oh please Hermione." Draco sighed and turned towards his mother. "She's at the top of all her classes as well as the entire year level. Has been since first year." It was odd to hear Draco bragging on her behalf.

"Yes, you were never able to top her were you, Draco." Lucius sneered.

"Lucius, this is my dinner and you will not ruin it for me." Narcissa's voice was quiet but the threat was there and almost immediately Lucius was silent.

After dessert Narcissa took Hermione away from Draco and Lucius to have some "girl time" as she explained to the men. She lead Hermione to a patio that over looked the garden and with the soft light coming from the posts along the path it was quite a beautiful scene. They sat down at a small table and chairs and drank tea and talked.

"So how long have you and my dear Draco been together?" Narcissa face was lit up with interest and joy.

"Well only a few weeks. But we seem to be spending more and more time together."

"How wonderful!" Narcissa seemed legitimately happy for her son and Hermione but there were still doubts about Lucius. "Tell me more about you Hermione."

"Well I- Ah I come from a fairly wealthy family. Both my parents are Dentists, they're healers but for peoples teeth."

"Interesting. And what about life after school?" Narcissa seemed genuine enough so she continued.

"Well actually I intend to study under Mr Olivander and become a wand maker. It still allows me to travel for the ingredients, yet isn't quite so stressful as an Auror. I also want something where I can work from home so that, when the time comes, I can be around my family. Whilst I did have a wonderful childhood, my parents worked a lot, so I intend on being around as much as possible in my children's lives."

"You intend on having more than one child?" Hermione blushed as she realised she was actually talking about having children with her boyfriend's mother.

"Yes, I want a large family." Hermione raised her chin defending her opinion.

"Oh darling, you have nothing to worry about. I'm not judging, well I was, but that was during dinner. Everything is just fine." Narcissa waved Hermione's worries off with a light laugh. "Now what are your plans for tomorrow. I think we should have lunch without the boys, just us girls." It wasn't a question, Narcissa fully intended to be having lunch tomorrow with Hermione.

"Well tomorrow is actually one of the Hogsmeade trips that we get to take and I intended on shopping with a friend for a dress to the upcoming dance." Nervousness over took Hermione as Narcissa seemed put off for a moment until she brightened backup.

"A dance! Draco didn't tell me about this. Oh I'll have to come shopping with you and your friend. We can then have lunch like I wanted. Tomorrow will all be on me-"

" Oh no, Mrs Malfoy I couldn't-" However Hermione's protests went unheard.

"It's Cissy darling, and nonsense. I'll meet up with you tomorrow morning at Madame Malkin's and we can start there! Oh how exciting!" She then stood and began walking inside, leaving Hermione unsure whether to follow or not. Slowly she followed the sound of Narcissa's voice and found her speaking with an awkward looking Draco and Lucius.

"Oh Lucius, isn't it wonderful. I'm going to take Hermione and her friend shopping tomorrow and then we'll have lunch. I'm so excited." Hermione watched as Draco turned to her with raised eyebrows and Lucius nodded. Draco walked over a placed an arm around Hermione's waist.

"Well thank you for dinner Mother. Father. We'll be going now." Draco's goodbye was curt and formal.

"Oh Draco bring her over again, will you. And I'll be seeing you tomorrow Hermione."

"Of course, Mrs Mal- Narcissa." The elder witch's face softened and a warm smile graced her features. With Draco leading the was the young couple floo'd back to Dumbledore's office safely and after a quick conversation with the Headmaster they were soon back in their dorm. Hermione headed for the couch when she was pulled back by her wrist and found her lips crushed by Draco's. When they finally separated for air Hermione was met with the pointed stare of her boyfriend.

"Care to elaborate as to why you are seeing my Mother tomorrow?"...
