Brittany chewed anxiously at her lip, her hand frozen midair and poised to knock on Santana's apartment door. A light blush colored her cheeks and she brought her hand back down to her side. Santana had cancelled their date via text message because she was staying in sick, claiming she looked and sounded too horrible to be seen in public. Initially, Brittany had responded with a 'feel better soon' and proceeded to pout until her brilliant idea to surprise Santana struck her. For the umpteenth time of the night she wondered if the spur of the moment idea had been a good one at all. Technically they weren't actually officially, exclusively together. Although they had been casually dating for nearly four months, that conversation had yet to be initiated by either of them. The fact that they were currently trapped in some weird in between relationship had Brittany questioning whether or not it would be okay with Santana for her to randomly show up on her doorstep with a bouquet of flowers and some chicken noodle soup.

With a deep breath, a hesitant smile, and her heart pounding in her ears, Brittany knocked. Her cheeks burned and she fidgeted with the items in her hand, feet shuffling anxiously. The sound of the locks unlatching had the blonde chewing at her lip again. She briefly contemplated running away as fast as she could but the door was already opening. When Santana appeared, brown eyes wide with surprise and a soft flush at her cheeks, Brittany felt the crazy thudding of her heart worsen.

"Brittany?" Santana gaped at the blonde, her own voice snapping her out of her Brittany induced daze.

"What are you doing here?" She glanced quickly over her shoulder before stepping out into the hall and shutting her apartment door softly behind her. When her gaze returned to the blonde she couldn't help the bright, adorable smile that lit up her features. Despite the fact that the brunette was dressed in an unflattering pair of sweatpants and an oversized sweatshirt with her hair tied in a messy bun Santana was ecstatic to find Brittany standing in front of her.

"I, um," Brittany's gaze fell nervously to the ground. "I brought you some soup to help you feel better." She tentatively brought her gaze back up to Santana to see the brunette sparing another fretful glance at the closed apartment door. Her stomach churned unpleasantly at the action, forcing words from her mouth. "Is this a bad time?"

"Actually," Santana's stare flickered back to Brittany before shifting away again. "Yeah. Kind of."

"Oh," The blonde's features fell, her shoulders slumping dejectedly. She knew she should have called. She knew it was a stupid idea to just show up unannounced. The unease swirling in her gut and the horrid feeling of knowing someone might already be over could have been easily avoided. "I didn't know you had company."

"If I'd known you were coming over I totally would have-"

"It's ok, Santana. I mean, we never said anything about not dating other people-"

Santana arched a brow at the blonde, head canted in confusion. "Wait, what?"

"And it isn't like we're exclusive or-"

"Britt, what are you…" Slowly, realization dawned upon her and her eyes widened. "Wait, you think I'm seeing other people?"

"You're not?"

"No, I thought we-"

"There you are." The apartment door swung open, a soft voice interrupting their exchange. "I thought I told you to stay in bed, mija." The woman's warm gaze flickered to Brittany, a suspicious little glimmer twinkling in her brown eyes at the sight of the blonde. "Oh, I didn't realize we had a visitor."

The devious glint in her grandmother's eyes didn't go unnoticed by Santana and she sighed. "I'll be in in a minute, abuelita. Brittany was just leaving."

"Yes. Right. I was just in the neighborhood and," Brittany glanced nervously between Santana and her grandmother. "I thought Santana might like some soup and, uh, flowers," She handed the items to Santana, too flustered to notice the adoring smile across the brunette's lips. "Because she's sick and… yeah. I'll just," She cursed the dark flush that was burning all the way to the tips of her ears. She was definitely regretting not calling beforehand. "Be on my way now."

"How thoughtful." The twinkle in the woman's eyes brightened when she noticed the flowers in her granddaughter's arms. She smiled at the flustered blonde before turning back to Santana with a chastising expression. "Where are your manners, Santana? I'm sure Brittany would like to come inside." The older woman sent a soft smile in Brittany's direction. "Excuse my granddaughter, she seems to have forgotten her manners. Please, come inside."

"I, well," Brittany damned her awkward stutter. She spared a brief glance at Santana before shaking her head and trying for a polite smile. "I wouldn't want to intrude."

"Nonsense." The older brunette was ushering them all into Santana's apartment before any further protest could be made. "I would love to hear how the two of you met."

All of the blood in her body seemed to rush to her head at the statement. Brittany felt lightheaded and horrified. A subtle glance in Santana's direction told her that she was having a similar mental breakdown. What were they supposed to tell Santana's grandmother? 'Oh, that's actually a very funny story. I walked in on your granddaughter having sex in a bathroom stall.' Brittany felt queasy. No way was she divulging that sort of information to Santana's grandmother.

After shutting the front door softly behind her, Santana leaned heavily against it with an awkward sigh. Her grandmother had taken an instant liking to Brittany. Santana didn't know how much more of her grandmother's less than subtle suggestions about bringing Brittany around more often she could take. And, oh god, the looks her grandmother would give her. That damn knowing twinkle in her eye every time Santana found herself smiling adoringly at the blonde. Thankfully, the older woman had accepted the half true story of how she first met Brittany. The curious arched brow and amused grin Brittany shot her when she was telling her grandmother about the sneaky little matchmaking scheme orchestrated by Quinn had Santana stumbling over her words.

It was cute. The way Santana was so obviously flustered by the night's events. Santana's grandmother, Rosa as she insisted Brittany call her, was simply wonderful and the way Santana acted around her. Like an embarrassed teenager. It was one of the most amusing, most adorable things Brittany had been witness to. When Rosa had gone into glorious detail about Santana's younger years Brittany couldn't help the giggles that bubbled up at Santana's flustered protests. The evening had been more than pleasant despite the awkwardness a few of Rosa's inquiries had caused between her Santana. Mainly the question about why Santana hadn't brought her girlfriend around before. Brittany had choked on her hot cocoa while Santana stuttered out something in Spanish.

"T-Thanks..." Santana cleared her throat, grimacing slightly at the nervous tremble in her voice. "For the soup and," For the umpteenth time of the night Santana felt the heat of a blush creep across her cheeks. "The flowers. And for coming over." She forced a soft laugh from her knotted throat in a weak attempt to defuse the oh so obvious tension between them. "I think my abue... grandmother might like you better than me."

Brittany giggled in response. Initially she thought Santana's grandmother's name was Abuelita. What could she say? She flunked Spanish in high school. Not only was it confusing, Brittany didn't see the point or the appeal. Although, the moment the foreign words rolled so exquisitely off of Santana's tongue Brittany could practically feel the maddening tingle swirling in her belly and really, that kind of reaction was not ideal while in the presence of Santana's grandmother. Brittany was currently stuck on the mental image of Santana's mouth as she expertly spoke Spanish which left her a little dazed. Which, in turn, left her words unfiltered.

"No way. She loves you, Santana. I mean," Brittany smiled brightly at the brunette. "Who wouldn't love you."

Uh oh. She hadn't exactly meant to say that out loud. Clearly the implication of the statement had disturbed Santana. At least that was the impression Brittany was getting from the wide eyed expression Santana was currently sporting.

An awkward strained laugh escaped Santana's full lips, her brows furrowing and eyes darting about the empty hallway. "Y-Yeah. She was the only one who really accepted me after I, you know, came out."

"I think," She offered Santana a soft smile at the confession, stepping closer to the brunette and invading the anxious bubble of space between them to brush a stray lock of dark hair behind Santana's ear. She barely noticed the brunette tense slightly and lean more heavily against the door. "She's wonderful, San."

"You're too sweet." Santana tried to lighten the conversation. She didn't know what it was about Brittany Pierce that made her skin tingle or her heartbeat quicken or her blood rush or her head fuzzy or caused her to open up about the most random things. "I can honestly say no one has ever brought me flowers before."

Drawn in by the too freaking adorable blush Santana was sporting, Brittany started leaning in closer before she even realized it. Her fingertips trailing gently down along Santana's jaw, the side of her neck, making the brunette shiver at the delicious caress. The blonde pressed a soft kiss to Santana's warm cheek, her lips buzzing at the bare hint of contact. A smile took her lips once again and she half muttered half giggled against the brunette's soft skin. "You have that kind of affect on me."

Santana couldn't help the humongous smile taking her lips or the way her heart seemed to be hammering beneath her chest. She curled her arms around the blonde before Brittany could pull away. Burying her face in the taller girl's neck and breathing her in. She couldn't help herself. The blonde was just too freaking amazing and Santana had never felt the way she was feeling for Brittany about anyone else.

A bit startled by the action, Brittany hesitated briefly before wrapping her arms around the smaller girl and pulling her in. Pulling her closer and enjoying the warm tingle that seeped into every minuscule molecule of her body. A big dopey grin spread itself across her face and she laid her cheek atop Santana's head, enjoying the feel of the brunette wrapped so perfectly in her arms.

Santana sighed contentedly and placed a lingering kiss to Brittany's cheek before pulling back reluctantly, her hand dropping to her side, reaching behind her to wrap around the door knob. She paused with her hand gripping tightly at the handle to settle her sudden onslaught of nervousness. Dark brown eyes fluttered up to meet glimmering sapphire. "We're... still on for Saturday?"

"Definitely." Brittany said with a bright smile and a voice filled with infectious excitement. To say Brittany was looking forward to their upcoming date was an understatement.

Beyond satisfied with the blonde's answer, Santana beamed back at Brittany. Opening the door and back stepping into her apartment. "Great. I'll see you then."

When Santana disappeared behind the apartment door Brittany almost let loose a girlish squeal of delight. Her heart was beating so hard she was sure she just ran a marathon. The butterflies fluttering in the pit of her stomach had to be the cause of the incessant grin plastered to her face. The anxious energy stirring in her rushing blood forced Brittany into motion. She found herself practically skipping, twirling, and dancing down the hallway. Her fingers brushing across her cheek where Santana's full lips had lingered.

Meanwhile, Santana was leaning against the inside of her apartment door. Her heart fluttering as she touched her cheek where Brittany had kissed her. She was grinning like a fool, her thoughts filled with the beautiful blonde.

Rosa stood in the kitchen entryway, a fond smile tugging at her lips as she watched her granddaughter act like a love struck teenager. "I like her."

Santana held down the horrified scream pushing at her throat when her grandmother appeared seemingly out of nowhere. She gave the older woman a tentative smile. "Yeah, well, that makes two of us."

"You should introduce her to the rest of the family. They would adore her."

"Abuelita! We've only been dating for a few months!" Santana couldn't fight the embarrassed flush across her cheeks and boy was she starting to feel dizzy from all the blood rushing to her face.

Rosa shook her head at the younger woman, an adoring glint shining in her brown eyes and a knowing smile curving her lips. "Ay, mija. I fell in love with your abuelo the moment our eyes met."

Brittany really was trying her hardest to listen to what Santana was saying, but the brunette's outfit was extremely distracting. Especially since Santana had discarded the cute plaid button down she was wearing to reveal a simple black tank top that, similar to most things the brunette tended to wear, exposed just the right amount of cleavage to have Brittany blatantly staring. Murky blue eyes slipped down to Santana's backside, head tilting to the side as she watched those hips sway in front of her. She mumbled out something akin to an affirmation when her brain registered Santana was asking her a question. It took everything in her to lift her eyes to Santana's face when the brunette suddenly stopped and whirled around to shoot an arched brow at the clearly distracted blonde.

"Why are we stopping?" Brittany shook the daze from her head, sparing a look at their surroundings. The sun was still high in the sky, beating down on them and making Santana's deliciously tanned skin glow.

"I asked you if you wanted to stop for a bit." Santana rolled her eyes at the blonde. At the rate they were going they might never make it to the top of the cliffs and that was just not an option. Santana hated hiking; she was far from an outdoorsy type of person. The only reason she was currently sweating her ass off, breathing in the dusty outdoor air, and trying her damnedest not to squeal in horror every time a bug came near her was because of the awesomeness she had planned once they reached the top of the climb. She caught the blonde staring unabashedly at her boobs for the hundredth time and her lips twitched as she fought down a smirk. She inched closer to Brittany, unscrewing the cap of her water bottle and taking a swig.

"Oh…" Honestly, Brittany only managed to retain about half of what Santana was saying. Her gaze was still pretty much focused on the brunette's rocking body. "Right."

"You okay, Britt?" She caught the blonde's cloudy sapphire stare. "You look really flustered."

A soft blush coated Brittany's cheeks at the statement and her gaze shifted nervously. "Yeah. It's just really… hot."

"Hm," The smirk Santana was fighting caught her full lips. "Maybe you need to cool off."

Before Brittany could properly respond, she felt something cold and wet trickling down her face. Dripping down her chin and falling into the low v-cut of her shirt. Santana was still grinning when Brittany realized what had happened.

"Feel better?" Santana's smirk worsened and she chuckled as Brittany's expression slowly shifted from bewildered to appalled.

"You did not just-"

She gestured to her half empty water bottle. "Pretty sure I did."

Brittany's eyes narrowed at the smirking brunette as she uncapped her own water bottle. "You do realize this means war."

"Hey," Santana's gaze flickered nervously to the bottle in Brittany's hand. "C'mon now, Britt Britt…" She took a cautious step backward when Brittany took an ominous step toward her. "I was just messing around. There's no need to-"

Brittany lunged forward and Santana let loose a girlish squeal, turning tail and running away from the blonde. Santana was giggling as Brittany chased her, shrieking when the taller woman got close and threatening the blonde not to ruin her hair. After a few minutes of playful jeers and giggles, Brittany finally caught Santana around the waist. Pressing their heated bodies close together and causing their movements to still. Heavy breathing and pounding hearts filling the barely there space between them as they paused, enthralled. Santana, drawn in by the dimming blue of Brittany's eyes, leaned in. Fully intending to kiss the blonde silly. Her brown eyes fluttered shut, springing open a split second later to find water trickling down her face. She shrieked and glared as Brittany giggled and flounced away, Santana hot on her heels for revenge.

Santana slowed her run to a stop, breathing heavily and placing her hands on her knees. She knew there was no way she could keep up with the super athletic blonde. "Fine! You win. Truce?"

Brittany giggled in response. She leaned against a large rock while waiting for Santana to trudge tiredly up the steep. "Can't keep up, San?"

Santana ignored the jibe and pressed the blonde against the rock. "That wasn't very nice, Britt. Getting me all wet. I think you owe me an apology."

"Wha.." Their close proximity had Brittany tongue tied, her head going fuzzy and body buzzing. Her flushed skin had nothing to do with the sun beaming down on them. "B-But you-"

Santana's dark, penetrating gaze locked with hazing sapphire. Never breaking and she husked against Brittany's lips. "Apologize."

Brittany's dimming stare flickered down to Santana's mouth. "I'm sorr-"

The words died on the tip of her tongue. Santana's lips silencing her with a kiss so deep and sensual and delicious that Brittany nearly forgot her own name. And then Santana's teeth were tugging lightly at her bottom lip. Her tongue sweeping across the tender flesh expertly before slipping into Brittany's mouth. Making the blonde groan at the sensation, aiding to the dizzying effect Santana seemed to have on her.

The brunette smirked at the sound. She pulled away reluctantly, the smirk never leaning her reddened lips. She stared up at Brittany from beneath hooded lashes, her expression set somewhere between dazed and satisfied. Santana took a teasing step away from Brittany, everything about the action meant to tempt and beguile. The cant of her head, the arch of her brow, the swipe of her tongue across her top lip, the playful lilt to her desire laden voice. "Apology accepted."

"Come on, Britt. We're almost at the top." Santana swiveled away from the blonde, breaking their dizzying eye contact and continuing their nearly forgotten trek up the trail.
