Chapter XXX

The Return

The five years had passed. To say the five years crawled by was a complete and utter lie. True some parts had gone by quicker than others for all the teens at the 'Boot Camp'. But for now Tenten and Kozuki were waiting on the two male members of their aforementioned bootcamp squad to return.

The first to arrive was a man standing around 6'4, with long silver hair going down to his back and just below where his hair ended was a large scroll. This man was the Gama no Sannin or Great Toad Sage Jiraiya. A second person arrived next to him hitting 6'3, with long messy blonde hair what separated him from Jiraiya was the large sword adorning his back this Uzumaki Naruto the new wielder of Samehada.

The pair of them stopped on the hill overlooking the Training Camp. When Naruto was joined by a slightly shorter colleague, a Chokuto and Broadsword on his back. This was Uchiha Sasuke, the second pupil of Jiraiya and the Snake Sage. The final member of the group had silver hair, wore the scarecrow look rather well and had one visible eye and for once he wasn't looking at his book. This was the Copy Cat Ninja Kakashi, the four of them had been on long training trips all of which accumulated to about three years.

Naruto had been the most unbalanced of the group and over the camp. His taijutsu had been refined as well as his chakra control and his grasp over ninjutsu. Naruto had also been interested in the use of seals and Jiraiya had taught him and it was something that the moment Naruto understood the theory of that the pair had begun to truly bond over. Not just bond over it in a teacher/student kind of way but also that of Godfather and Godson.

Jiraiya had told the four of them his relation to Naruto and explained that the reason he wasn't around was because of the external threats that Naruto faced as a kid. Kakashi and Sasuke had also developed a bond, not one of Godfather and Godson but one of close friends and almost of brothers. Sasuke still wanted his revenge on Itachi but was more content to seek it for the Clan's future rather than personal gain.

The four headed down the hill, Naruto lept to the trees, followed by the others and they made their way to the ANBU grounds. The ANBU grounds was otherwise known as to the potentials as 'The Camp', In the ANBU 'The Grounds' and the Hokage's knew it as 'Headache Inducing Paperwork'. The reason for it was because all shinobi in the ANBU couldn't be identified as living or being on the plain clothes register as active. The common rule of thumb was to either put them on S+-Missions, MIA or KIA. KIA was by far the easiest as the 'Crones' or the 'Honourable Elders' were more likely to investigate the first two rather than the latter. Although Tsunade thought Danzo examined all three trying to recruit members into his own 'ANBU'.

It was Koyuki who saw them first. She wasn't going to rush out to them but rather try and test their new skills. She pulled a poison bomb and chucked it onto Naruto's path. Naruto clicked his fingers and he replaced himself with a log, Sasuke was already moving the moment he saw a flare of Chakra coming from Naruto.

Koyuki grinned, pulled two kunai and blocked the incoming strike. Her eyes widened as Samehada lengthened and she replaced herself with a kunai. She reappeared to see the Sharkskin sword rip out a good third of the tree trunk. "Enough." She sheathed the kunai and turned to face her two team mates and had to fight the nosebleed. She had thought Naruto and Sasuke were good looking before the five year trip but during the trip something had changed her male teammates considerably. Naruto and Sasuke were no longer the goofy but cute teammates, Naruto seemed older and wiser and the over-the-top confidence that hid his insecurities had been replaced by a confidence in himself.

Kakashi and Jiraiya hadn't changed much and neither had Sasuke. Except all three had gotten stronger; the first two had began to improve their reserves back to somewhere to war time level. The last had improved his control over Katon and Raiton jutsu and had got an understanding in Doton. Also Kakashi and Sasuke had refined and developed their skills in kenjutsu, Kakashi especially with his father's reforged tanto.

The group entered the compound where Tenten, Hinata and Yugao were all training. Tenten looked up saw Naruto, smiled and the next thing the Blonde new was the Weapons Mistress had jumped into his arms. Hinata had eventually confessed to Naruto about her having a crush on him but Naruto had managed to say that he wasn't the right person for her and that she was a brilliant comrade but not someone he could see with him for the rest of their potentially short lives.

Higurashi Tenten was someone he could quite possibly see as future wife. The two had begun to bond over Boot Camp and both shared a love for Fuuinjutsu. So everyone at the Boot Camp were happy to see the two Co-Leaders of their squad which meant their training was finally over. They were tired, sore and very sweaty.

As one they vanished in a flurry of elements and traditional body flicker techniques. As one they vanished and as one they reappeared in Tsunade's office as she just settled down to have a drink of sake before turning to the stack of paperwork.
