1 Month after Jasper is found-Emmett's POV

Even while in a catatonic state, Jasper was still able to control the emotions of everybody in the house; without even using his power. Everybody was frustrated with the fact that Jasper had made no improvement in a whole month.

When I first heard that Alice, Carlisle and Edward found Jasper, I had expected them to bring the dude I knew as my brother home conscious. I had wondered what I would say to him as soon as he came through the doors and if he would let me give him a well needed brotherly bear hug but instead, he was being carried by Carlisle, limp in his arms.

It worried the hell out of me. It wasn't something we had ever seen before. Vampires get extremely weak when starved but Carlisle had been inserting feeding tubes into Jasper to ensure that he was getting enough blood yet Jasper still hadn't moved a muscle...unless you count his eyelids. They opened every now and then but they showed no sign of life. As insane as it sounds, I really missed his creepy eyes with the intimidating way he stared at people. At least when we told him to stop, he would snap out of it but there was nothing we could do about the dead and dull eyes that appeared out of nowhere for the past month.

Thankfully his eyes were closed today. I don't think I could have bared being around him if they hadn't been.

Alice refused to leave Jasper's side a lot of the time but with a lot of convincing, and promises that we'll call her if anything happens with him, she would go for a hunt. She was as quick as she could be so that she could return to her mates side but at least she was still keeping herself fed.

At the moment, I had a phone right by my side as I sat at the edge of the bed that Jasper had been placed in, praying that he would give me a reason to ring Alice and tell her some good news.

When I was human, it was normal to believe that you could kill a vampire by driving a stake through its heart. Becoming one myself, I found that this was false and that you actually have to tear its limbs off and set them on fire to ensure that they stay dead. That was it. Carlisle had informed me that this was the only way a vampire could be killed.

Now I'm starting to believe otherwise.

What if Jasper was dead? Really dead.

We don't need to breath like humans and our body's don't decompose when torn apart so there was no way that this could be proved but I'm sure Edward had heard everybody consider the possibility that he might not come back...and it scared me.

I loved Jasper as if he were my real brother and I miss every moment I got to spend with him; whether it was wrestling each other with me demanding a rematch soon after, or just chilling with him during a hunt. I even did my best to figure out all the things that scared Jasper just so that I could prevent myself from causing his freak outs because I knew I was the main one who scared him to death. And by learning these things, I gave myself better memories of the times I spent with him.

I just hope that they won't be the only memories I have.

Glancing at Jasper again, I notice something odd.

He was shivering.

"CARLISLE!" I shouted.

I knew that he would have heard me if I had just called lightly but I was desperate to get his attention. I didn't know if this kind of movement was a good or a bad thing. It was something a human does when they are cold but temprature never bothers us so that couldn't be it.

Jasper usually shivered like a frightened cat whenever he got startled by a sudden noise but how could he possibly be scared when he wasn't even conscious?

Carlisle appeared out of nowhere, immediately focusing on Jasper.

"He's shaking. Why is he doing that? That's a good thing right?" I questioned anxiously.

Carlisle held Jasper's bony hand in his own, examining the way it shook. Carlisle's brow was furrowed, clearly as confused as I was and I knew that even though he was putting on a brave face, he was as anxious as I was.

He checked Jasper's eyes by raising his eyelids with his fingers.

"His pupils are pinpoint" Carlisle stated, puzzled.

"What? Why? Why would they be like that?" I asked frantically.

"I can give you many reasons why this would happen to a human but...this isn't right. Our eye color changes but our pupils don't. They can appear dilated when our eye color is black but I've never seen pin point pupils in our kind before. There is just no way I can explain this"

And that was the problem. We were new to this. No matter how hard we search, whatever is going on is completely unheard of, leaving us with no knowledge of what to do.

"Call Alice" Carlisle sighed.

It was pretty clear that he was frustrated with himself and it was no surprise either. As the father figure of the family, he viewed himself responsible for Jasper as well as being the one to solve this mess.

Before I had the chance to grab my phone, it began to ring with Alice's caller ID displaying on the screen. She must have seen that I was going to call her.

"Emmett? What's going on? Is Jasper okay? I'm on my way back" Alice rushed down the line, not giving me a chance to get a word in.

"I really don't know what to say, Alice. Something's happening. We just don't know what" I admitted.

I looked back over to Carlisle and Jasper, my father putting a frustrated hand though his hair as he desperately seeked a way to stop my brothers shivering. He seemed to have thought of something as he quickly disappeared out of the room.

"Why is Carlisle getting a hot water bottle? Emmett, I still can't see Jazz. Talk to me!" Alice demanded.

"He's shivering and his pupils are pin point. I guess Carlisle thinks Jasper might be cold" I concluded.

"Edward and I will be there soon" she said, hanging up shortly after.

Just as Alice had predicted, Carlisle had returned back into Alice and Jasper's room with a hot water bottle and a few blankets in his hands, all in aid to keep Jasper warm. I helped him wrap Jasper in the blankets after he placed the hot water bottle under his arms.

"I hope this helps" I muttered.

It was horrible seeing his body shake so much, but then again, it was just as horrible seeing him lay so still. I turned around as I heard the sound of a window open and saw Alice as she made her way through it, all her focus on Jasper.

The shivering had subsided after an hour, which may or may not have been because of the warmth of the blankets and heat of the hot water bottle. Alice had sat him up against her chest, rocking him lightly. Her eyes had looked so distant.

Ever since this whole thing with Jasper, it has been difficult to determine whether that look in her eyes was because she was having a vision or if she was actually zoning out on us because she really wasn't coping well. Only Jasper could fix this.

He needed to be okay.

For Alice….hell, for all of us.

"Carlisle needs you" Alice muttered quietly.

She didn't look me in the eye. In fact; she was still looking far out, but I got the impression that I was the one she was speaking to.

"How come?" I questioned.

Before she even got time to reply (although she probably wouldn't have), I heard my name get called from outside of the house. I took one final glance at my victimized brother before leaving the two of them alone and worked my way down the staircase and out of our home. When I stepped outside, I spotted Carlisle and Esme standing in front of a parked van.

"You bought a van?" I assumed.

Carlisle shook his head.

"No, the van is hired. We did buy something though"

I watched as Esme slid the side van door open, which revealed a large white machine with what seemed to have a table the length of a person. I have seen enough medical programmes and read enough of Carlisle's medical books to understand what this was.

"An X-Ray?" I gasped.

"For Jasper, I assume" Rosalie stated as she came up behind me.

Carlisle nodded, actually looking rather hopeful; an uncommon look these days. "I figured that if I get a look of what's going on internally and compare it to an x-ray of a healthy vampire, then it may give me an indication of what could be wrong with Jasper" he explained.

"Where the hell did you manage to buy one of those?" I asked him, curiously.

"I'm a doctor, I know some people" Carlisle grinned.

Esme turned around to face both Rosalie and I. "We plan to set up a mini medic in one of the rooms that we have spare. It will be where we can focus more on Jasper and it may be of us some day in the future for others too. But I would like both of your help to set it up"

The Emmett in the past would have laughed at the idea of having a room dedicated to all things medical since as far as I had been aware back then, we didn't sustain injuries and I doubt that Carlisle would have risked the lives of the humans by bringing back wounded to treat their injuries whilst at the same time, there are vampires in the same house thirsty for the blood that's seeping from their wounds.

But now? The idea seemed perfect. Anything that meant hope for Jasper.

"The sooner we start the better, right?" I said with enthusiasm.

Esme, seeing that I was keen on the idea, smiled at me and Carlisle gave me an appreciative nod; a small gesture, but I could tell he was silently thankful that I was taking things well.

"Then let's do this"
