Rio: Journ3y to Hawaii

Chapter 10: Change of Plans, Part 2

Disclaimer: The Rio franchise belongs to 20th Century Fox and Blue Sky Studios. I just own the story, any OCs, etc.

Author's note: Does anyone know exactly when Jewel is supposed to lay her new egg(s) time-wise? She just learned she was 'expecting' a few days since they came back from the Amazon, and I don't think it's 9 months like how it is for human females...

Sometime later, at Nico & Pedro's new club

"Whoa, whoa, whoa… whoooaaa… whoa…"

Blu looked over at Pedro, with an expression that meant 'how many times is he going to say that word?', and the red cardinal gave a small shrug.

Just as Nico was about to continue talking, Carla held up a wing, and she said, "Look, we definitely know that this is unexpected, especially with the finals being tonight… but on the way here, I figured that this might actually make the show much better once we come back from the trip. Think of it as Amazon Untamed 2.0, except its Hawaii instead."

"See? Told you there wasn't any reason to panic," added Blu, with his daughter giving a sheepish smile while Nico thought about the possibilities regarding Carla's suggestion. "And I thought you told me already that the show would be done when we came back from Hawaii?"

"Well, yeah, but I didn't think we'd be leaving so soon, 'specially with the finals being tonight," replied Nico, who was now starting to walk back and forth.

"Chillax, lil' bird, we can take care of this… hey, maybe you could even find your own lil' hot wing out there," teased Pedro, nudging his best friend's shoulder. "Ya know already for sure that she ain't here in Rio…"

Nico rolled his eyes, and shook his head before saying, "Alright, I'll think of something to say to the participants after the finals are over with… how long until we leaving to Hawaii, Blu?"

"The day after tomorrow, and in the early morning so we don't miss the airport flight," replied Blu, as he remembered what Tulio had said earlier on the phone, and Pedro gave a small frown in response.

"Does that mean we're gonna be put in a bunch of cages again? It better be a deluxe cage, at least, considering the destination… hey, hold up! I thought we was taking a cruise to Hawaii?"

Blu shook his head, but before either of the two birds could say anything, Rafael suddenly landed beside the small group. "Hey, you two! Wasn't expecting to see you here 'till tonight… something come up?"

"Yeah, our trip to Hawaii got moved up, and we leavin' the day after tomorrow," replied Nico, who began twirling his bottle cap hat with one of his wings. "Oh, and how's Jewel doing, by the way?"

"Pretty good actually… don't think she's going to be layin' the eggs anytime soon." Blu said, giving a small nod of confidence. "And she hasn't had any 'mood swings' as much lately - oof!"

"That's my boy!" Raphael gave the macaw a pat on the back, and bid them all goodbye before flying away elsewhere while Carla looked back over at Nico.

"So, we cool and everything on how to handle the show?"

The canary nodded in response, and smirked slightly as he replied, "Bet you're looking forward to seeing that one contestant get a show spot, huh?"

"I… I don't know what you mean by that," said Carla, trying her best to look confused.

Nico simply tossed his cap up in the air, and once it landed back on his head, he said, "Sure you don't, baby bird."

Back at Linda and Tulio's place near the sanctuary, the tower-block game had been set back up, and Tiago wasback to waiting for his sister to pick out her block to place atop the tower.

"Any day now while we're still young, sis…" muttered the young Macaw, followed by a small sigh as he tried to continue being patient.

"It's like I said before, us being at this point in the game requires extra time to be spent in making a decision," explained Bia, with Jewel nearby giving a small chuckle since she was being reminded of Blu.

The young boy let out a small groan as he continued to wait for Bia to make a choice, and just when he felt like he was about to let out a bunch of frustration, Tiago heard her say that it was now his turn. "Wait, what?"

"It's your turn," repeated Bia, gesturing to the block that she'd put onto the tower, and began to wait patiently for him to make a move.

"Oh, right, yeah… about time, too," said Tiago, shaking his head and focusing his attention now on which block was the safest to pull out. "I think… I will go with…"

Suddenly, he paused after hearing the sound of faint snoring, and the three macaws noticed that Roberto was currently sound asleep, having chosen to take a small nap several moments ago.

Phew! That was a close one, thought Tiago, and he went back to reaching out for a block that he knew was definitely -

"Hey, guys, we're back!" A returning Carla cried out, with Blu close behind her, and Tiago stopped himself just in time from pulling out the block faster than he was supposed to. "How's the game going?"

"I'm 95% sure that the score will be 2-0 in just a few moments," said Bia, with Tiago sticking out his tongue at her before he went back to carefully pulling out the next block just as Tulio came back into the house with a cage that held two certain animals, which he placed on a desk that was in a close distance from where the family of macaws were at.

"Ohhhhh my gooodnesss, I love that game!"

CRASH!

Nigel let out a sigh as he watched the tower collapse after Gabi's outburst had caused Tiago to pull out the block too quickly, and he muttered, "Always have to ruin everything."

"See? Told you I was sure I would win," replied Bia, and was now making her way over to the scoreboard on the fridge.

"Oh, for cheese and darn sprinkles…" groaned Tiago, and he began to repeatedly thump his head against the fallen tower.

Blu looked at the caged cockatoo in confusion, and asked, "Nigel? What are you and Gabi doing here?"

Knowing that he wouldn't be able to get an answer out, Nigel looked over at his 'companion', who was more than happy to respond. "Your human friend over there felt like it might help his studies if we interacted with other animals now! Wow, this'll be just like how it was in the Amazon… except, you know, without trying to get revenge on you two. Ain't that right, Nigel?"

Nigel just muttered to himself in irritation, and quietly watched Tiago begin to set back up the tower for another game. "No way am I losing this round."
