Chapter 5 The move to London
After picking up both boys it was now time to let them know about the move to London. Everything with the house had been finalized the following morning and now all they had to do was move to the new location. Petunia looked at both boys as they were nearly done eating. "Boys, before you go upstairs we have something we want to talk to you about." She said to them both. Silence fell over the table for a moment as both parents thought of how to tell them about the move. It was Vernon who spoke first. "What we wanted to tell you both is that we have gotten a house in London closer to Harry's school and plan to start packing today." He looked at both boys and saw he had their attention. "I am sorry we have not told you both before now. It's just we wanted to be sure."
Petunia looked to her son. "Dudley, how are you with changing schools?" she asked him after a moment.
He had not said anything. Truth is he hated the school he attended. He only pretended to like it so as not to upset his parents. "I don't like it at all. I would be happy to change schools. A lot of the kids are kind of mean." He said this softly.
She looked at he son and smiled softly. "Well I hope you will like the school we have applied you to then." she handed him the letter as he began to read it.
He smiled and looked up to her. "The London Academy? It is just like Harry's withtout the magic part!" He said with a smile.
"Yes, we had noticed that. It seemed to be the best of all the schools." she said to him before she looked to Vernon. "would you want to go ahead and start packing?" when she said that a creature popped up she had heard of many times but never seen.
"Hello! I am mittens the house elf. I am one of the potter elves and I would like to help you pack." he spoke rather well for a house elf. The potters had made sure their elves could speak proper english.
she looked to vernon who nodded. "okay, you may help us." she knew that it would be a few minutes and they would be ready to leave tomorrow. Harry looked at her. "Aunt Petunia, how did the house elf find me? I mean he said he worked for the potters." she looked at him for a moment before speaking. "well Harry, the house we are moving into currently is a potter home in london. The goblins had informed us that the house elves would send someone when needed. We felt it better to move into one of your homes that was already well protected until we can find our own and have the protections added."
He smiled at that. "Maybe they will have books about my family!" he smiled at that. He really hoped so. He looked at Dudley and they both smiled. Around that time Mittens popped back up into the room. "Everything is packed and at the new home." she replied before looking to both parents. "would you like to have me pop you all to your new home?"
Petunia smiled and looked to the elf. "That would be lovely Mittens."
He nodded and looked to them. "Everyone hold onto me." he said as he waited until everyone had hold and popped away to their new home.
Everyone looked around and smiled. "woah!" Dudley said after a moment. "this place is huge!" Harry looked to the elf. "May we see our rooms and then the rest of the house mittens?" He wanted to be nice to the elves. He was not too sure about them just yet. Mittens smiled at the kindness the young potter showed towards him. "Yes young potter, follow me." He proceeded to show them the living area, the kitchens, dining room, and an indoor pool. "The pool can only be accessed with a parent or gaurdian present and it is protected by charms to prevent children from drowning and staying under the water for too long." he said at Petunias worried look. "Here we have the library along with the rooms on the other side of the hall. It currently has 5 bedrooms and 4 baths. We have chosen the rooms for each of you but you may change it if you like." he said as he walked with them to their rooms. He opened the door. "This is your room young Harry" He said to him. Harry walked in and then smiled. "I love it! Thanks mittens!" He walked around for a few moments then went with the others to see their rooms. He could not be happier that they were moving away from Privet Drive when they found out. He had never liked it there.
Later that night as he laid within his room he could not help but smile. He was in a home that had been his parents. He was not sure if they lived here or not. He would have to try and find out. He wanted to know more about his fathers family. However, before he could think more on anything he had fallen asleep. Little did he know Dudley next to him had done the same.
Downstairs Vernon and Petunia Dursley sat on the couch. "Do you think they will adjust?" Petunia said softly as she looked to her husband. He was silent for a moment before he spoke. "It might take some time for them both to settle in. Though I think they will adjust fine. Dudley did say he wanted to be at a different school." It took awhile before they both returned to their room to go to bed as well. They both had the thought as they fell asleep that they hoped that their lives would only continue to get better.
