Chapter 19

The place was dark and consuming; that was the only way Elsa could really describe the location Pitch had chosen to keep Jack in.

It was an abandoned building only a few miles off, hidden deep in the forest where not even the Guardians were aware of its existence.

Apparently, her father had used the place for many different occasions and she dreaded to think of all the horrid things that he had done in that lonesome structure.

With his hands still tied together by ice, Pitch guided them inside the obscure dwelling and Elsa couldn't help but shudder.

The place was full of dead machines, all rotten and rusted like they hadn't been used in years, and the sound of water dripping was the only thing that could be heard.

She wasn't sure if her father had led them to a trap, or if this really was the place where Jack was currently being held in; all she knew was that she had hope it was.

''Where's Jack, Pitch?'' North asked through gritted teeth, grabbing her father by the neck.

He only glared, a small smirk appearing on his face. ''No need to get violent, old man. The kid is over there''

He nodded to a darkened corner of the room, and the sandman was quick to blow sand towards there.

The sand rapidly illuminated a bloodied Jack tied to the wall, his hands pinned up by chains and his head laid down, unconscious.

There was blood on his nose, and some on his lips, along with some chocking marks against his neck.

Elsa and Tooth gasped, while Pitch only let out a laugh.

Sandy rushed to his son, hands shaking and eyes filled with tears as he broke the chains off his boy.

Jack fell towards, but was luckily caught in time by a horrified Bunny.

''What did you do to him?'' Elsa shouted, turning back to her father.

Pitch scowled, letting out a dry chuckle at the sight of her distress. ''Just what I had to, Princess. My, Jack sure is a stubborn one''

Elsa felt pure rage rush through her, and almost unconsciously, she lifted her hands up and conjured up ice spikes directed straight at her father.

Her father's eyes widen, and for the first time in her life, she swore she saw fear in those dull eyes of his. ''You wouldn't, Elsa. I'm your father''

''Nearly'' she spoke, bringing the spikes closer to his face. ''You hurt the one person I cared about, and you knew that. You're not my father, and you never will be''

Right before the spikes could touch him, however, she heard the weak and rasped voice of Jack calling her name.

Her head snapped towards him, and dropping the spikes of ice, she ran to his side.

''Jack,'' she said, cupping his face into her hands and forcing a small smile. ''Jack, I'm right here. I'm here''

Although frail and rather drained, Jack managed to let go off Bunny and grab ahold of her waist, pulling her closer.

Placing his forehead against hers, Elsa could feel his warm breath against her icy skin. ''I'm sorry''

''No, don't apologize.'' She mumbled, letting out a gentle giggle. ''I'm just happy I found you. I thought I'd never see you again''

Jack smiled, pulling away and placing a strand of her lose hair behind her ear. ''You can't get rid of me that easily, princess''

He bit his lower, bloodied lip and almost instantly, he had crushed his lips against hers.

She could feel the blood on them, but even so, she made no attempt to stop him.

His lips were so familiar and warm; it was until they pulled away that she realized just how much she had missed them.

''You fool!'' Pitch's voice cried out, his eyes twisting in anger as he walked closer to them.

She saw the guardians get into their defensive pose, watching every single step he took with precaution.

''How dare you touch my daughter? You're nothing but a stupid boy!''

With one swift motion, he had broken the ice around his hands and he was rapid to let the black sand drain from his fingers.

Bunny and Tooth were thrown against the wall once again, being suffocated by the sand as the fought to get lose.

North was being thrown without mercy against the floor, and Elsa could see the blood beginning to drip from his forehead.

Sandy had been consumed completely by the sand, his little form now completely dissolved and no trace of gold to be seen.

Elsa couldn't take it anymore, and as she looked back at her father, she realized she couldn't even recognize him.

He wasn't the man she had grown up with, the cold and possessive one she had called father for years; no, this Pitch Black was another person entirely.

He had finally gained his title of being the bogyman.

''Father, please, stop this!'' she shouted, as Jack stepped in front of her, shielding her from him.

Pitch glared at her, extending his hand and pushing Jack roughly against the floor.

Almost immediately, Jack had been knocked out and all she could do was kneel down to him and pray that he wasn't dead.

''Father? But just mere seconds ago you told me I wasn't your father!'' he exclaimed, walking towards her and stopping only a foot away.

She looked up at him, breathing heavily as she looked down at Jack.

He was going to murder them; Pitch would end up killing Jack and the Guardians and it was only a matter of time until he did so.

She rose from the ground, her hands shaking as she struggled to stay remain standing. ''You're right, you're not my father. And if you kill them, then so be it, but you better kill me along with them because I'd rather be dead then go back to being your daughter''

Pitch raised his hand, slapping her across the face.

He'd never done that, and now that he finally had, It'd become evident that he truly was a monster.

''don't be foolish, Elsa, I'm not going to kill you'' he grabbed ahold of her shoulders, shaking her. ''You might not see me as your father, but I raised you and I'll be damned if I were to kill my flesh and blood''

He pushed her aside, his eyes wondering to each guardian with such hunger in his eyes. ''Now who should I kill first? Who should I finally get rid of first?''

He stared down at the awakening Jack, who moaned slightly while holding his head. ''Ah, yes, Jackson Frost. You've caused me so many problems you know, even before you chose to fall in love with my daughter''

The sand in his hands soon formed into a bow and arrow, and as he stretched out the bow and pointed it directly at the boy on the ground, Elsa could only do what her heart ached her to do.

So within seconds, she stood in front of her father, hand extended as ice spikes formed out of it.

The spikes pierced through Pitch instantly, and it didn't take long for him to fall onto the floor and for all the sand to drain back into him.

The guardians were set free, each of them panting and trying to catch her breath.

It wasn't until she heard Jack's frantic voice calling her name that she realized just why he sounded so pained.

She stared down at her stomach, only to find an arrow stuck into her and blood rapidly staining her dress.

She hadn't felt it at first, but now the pain was overwhelming her and before she could fall onto the floor, she was caught by Jack's arms.

She looked down at her father, who cried out in pain as he attempted to rise up.

His eyes widen as they landed on her. ''What? No, no, no! What have I done?''

He fell onto his knees, and even she was surprised to see the tears falling from his eyes. ''I shot my daughter! My own Elsa!''

She placed her hand on her stomach, and her breath seem to grow short as she saw the red liquid staining her hand.

She suddenly felt tired, exhausted even as she fought to keep her eyes open.

The only thing that kept her conscious was the sound of Jack's voice.

''Elsa, please stay awake! You're going to be okay, we're not going to let you die. I promise, right guys? 'He said turning his head towards the Guardians.

She didn't have to look at them to know that it was hopeless; she would die.

''Jack, it's time you let me go'' she muttered, with the little energy she had left.

He shook his head, violently, and she could see the tears threatening to spill from his eyes. ''No, I can't. I don't want to, Elsa! I'm so in love with you, you can't die!''

Bunny placed his hand on his shoulder, staring down at her with a sadden frown on his face. ''I'm sorry, mate''

Jack shrugged his hand off, a tear falling from his eye and onto her cheek. ''No, stop! You're going to be okay, Elsa! We're going to go back to North's workshop after this and we're going to get all better-''

''Jack, I love you'' she said, placing her hand on his cheek.

Her entire body ached, and if she were honest, she was praying for her death if it meant ending the pain.

''But there is nothing left to do''

''There is'' Pitch said, holding onto his side as he tried his best to stay balanced. ''In order to save a soul, another soul must be sacrificed-''

''What do you mean?'' asked Jack, through gritted teeth.

Pitch growled, as fell back onto the floor. ''It means that if you want to save her, someone has to die in her place''

''I'll do it'' Jack exclaimed almost immediately. ''Just tell me what to do and I'll do it''

Sandy flew to his side shaking his head with such sorrow.

Jack only looked down, his fingers running through her cheek. ''I have to, dad. For her''

''Don't-'' she whispered, but it was too weak to be heard.

That's when she heard it; something she never thought she would. ''No you won't, Frost. I will''

Jack turned to Pitch, who now stood tall. ''I'm her father, and even if you all may think I'm not capable of loving someone, I love her more than anything and I'll do anything to protect her''

He began mumbling strange words in an unknown tongue, and the moon began to shine down at him almost immediately.

Elsa knew she was dying, though, as she felt the only energy left in her begin to wither away.

Jack held her closer, placing a kiss on her forehead. ''Elsa, stay with me. You're going to be okay''

Except, she knew she wasn't going to be as she closed her eyes one last time.

Suddenly, her body was filled with energy; her eyes bursting open as she inhaled deeply.

She was still in Jack's arms and he seemed relief, as a wide smile spread through his face. ''Welcome back, princess''

''What happened?'' she asked, sitting up and holding onto her side.

The arrow was now gone and the wound was no longer bleeding, almost as if it was healing itself up.

She became aware of the different pair of eyes that stared at her, joyfully.

''You died for a minute'' Tooth said, as a bruised Bunny leaned on her for support. ''But you came back''

''Your father sacrificed himself for you'' North continued, extending his hand out to her. ''He died so that you could live''

She took his hand, rising up as Jack followed. ''Wait, my father did that?''

Jack nodded, intertwining his fingers into hers. ''He did, Els. The man in the moon accepted his sacrifice and he was translated to him.''

Elsa couldn't believe it; and her heart ached at the thought.

Her father was so cruel only minutes before, he was a merciless killer who hungered to hurt those around him, but when it came to her, he died so that she could live.

She thought Pitch had no good left in him, but she was wrong.

He had given his life for hers, and she had just now realized that he truly had loved her even if he didn't show it.

She just wished her last words to him weren't full of hatred expressing that he was no father to her.

How could she had said something so painful?

''Did he say anything, before he died?'' she asked, and she realized tears had begun to fall from her eyes.

Jack smiled, pushing her hair away from her face. ''He did. He said he loved you and that now, he'd finally be with his Maya''

Those words brought comfort to her heart, knowing that her parents would finally be together.

That was all her father had truly wanted all along.

''Ready to go?'' asked North, with a grin on his face.

Elsa nodded, grinning at Jack. ''Yeah, I'm ready''

As they began to head towards North's sled outside the building, her eyes wondered up the darkened sky that was currently illuminated by the bright moon.

And she swore for a moment, that the moonlight was shining directly at her, almost with hope.

''Thank you, father.'' She mumbled under her breath. ''I love you too''

The guardians all came sat into the sleigh, all tired and worn-out.

That's when she felt Jack pull her into his chest, resting his chin on her head. ''So when did you get ice powers? Because if you've been hiding them from me his entire time, I'll be offended''

She chuckled, taking a deep breath. ''It's a long story''

''We got all the time in the world.''
