A/N: Okay, this took longer than expected... I had this written out for a long time but had to rewrite it a few times and now here it is.
As the first installment of the Shadowhunter Academy came out yesterday, this is a chapter for the Sizzy shippers - an Izzy special :)
Hope you like it
The walls of Java Jones were resounding a deep bass. Isabelle tuned out the conversation between her brothers and watched Simon, and how his slender fingers plucked at the strings of his guitar. He looked really cool, she thought, and somehow she understood why girls often developped a crush on boys who played in a band. He even looked like a rock star, which was, Isabelle thought proudly, mostly her doing. She had dressed him up in that white shirt, a leather jacket and a raggedy jeans she had „borrowed" from Alec. The jeans had holes in it that made it seem like they were left there for stylish reasons, though, knowing her brother it was probably just an old jeans that should be thrown away.
But in combination to the whole outfit it looked hot. Izzy grinned proudly.
„By the Angel, can they get any worse?" Alec groaned.
Izzy´s smile faltered.
„As you can hear, they can." Jace added and Izzy smacked both her brothers on the arms. „Shut up, you two. They´re not that bad." she claimed.
Alec grimaced. „Of course you think so. You´re a bit biaised, don´t you think?"
„I´m not." Izzy claimed. „Clary thinks so too."
„And Clary´s not biased at all." Alec snorted at her. Then he cocked his head to the side thoughtfully and frowned. „Are those my pants?"
„Of course they´re not." said Izzy innocently. „Why would Simon be wearing your pants?"
„By the way, Clary also says they suck." added Jace, ignoring the conversation about Alec´s pants.
Izzy rolled her eyes. However bad Simon´s band, currently named the Hallow Sinners, might be, the café was well-attended. Alright, most of the guests were covering their ears with a rather pained expression on their faces, but Izzy thought that was just plain exaggeration.
„I didn´t say they suck. I just said they´re lacking almost every quality a band should normally have." Clary said, not very helpful, as she returned from the bar with Magnus and their drinks. „I agree." Magnus said. „They´re probably the worst band I´ve heard in centuries and that´s saying something. Why did we come here again, Alec?"
Alec shrugged and looked at his sister, as if passing the question on to her. Izzy sighed heavily. „We came here," she started, impatiently, „because we´re supporting Simon. What friends would we be if we wouldn´t come to one of his gigs?"
„Technically, Simon´s not my friend." Jace tossed in and Magnus and Alec nodded in agreement. Clary spared Izzy from scolding Jace, when she hit him hard with her elbow.
As if she´d heard nothing, Izzy went on. „What friends would we be if we always told Jace how bad his jokes actually are."
Jace´s face fell, but Izzy didn´t give him the time to make a smart retort.
„What friends would we be if we told Clary her uncountable drawings of Jace are getting annoying?"
Clary blushed.
„Or that Magnus´ canary yellow pajamas are ridiculous."
Magnus gasped theatrically.
„What friends would we be if we constantly reminded Alec how shabby his damned clothes are and that he should throw them on a stack and burn them so that at least they´ll warm some homeless people?"
„Actually, you do tell me that constantly." Alec muttered dryly. „And for the record, it makes you rather lousy friends."
Izzy waved his comment away and returned her gaze on Simon. „However. Point is," she said, gaze still locked frimly on Simon, who was announcing a short break. He put the guitar aside and searched the crowd with his eyes until he saw the group standing around a bar table. He smiled – and then his view was blocked by a short blonde girl standing right in front of him. Izzy raised her brows.
„The point is what now, my dear?"
Izzy was faintly aware of Magnus smirking at her while her mind was busy observing the other girl. She was curvy, yet not really pudgy. She might be considered pretty, but she was nothing compared to Isabelle Lightwood. And that´s said without being conceited.
Well, maybe a little bit.
Izzy watched as the girl was talking to Simon and Simon was smiling and awkwardly brushing a hand through his cute brown locks and Izzy was biting her lip. There was the reason why Isabelle didn´t really like girls that much, why she hadn´t liked Clary in the beginning. They could be so bitchy and try to push her out of the limelight. And steal the attention of her boyfriend away from her, apparently.
„By the Angel. Does he seriously have a fan now?" Alec asked, rather disbelievingly. Magnus eyed him. „Do you consider joining a band?" he asked. „That would be kind of hot."
Alec smirked at him. „Only if you taught me how to play the charango."
Magnus gasped and feigned a hurt expression. Isabelle, who, like the rest of the group, had no idea what that comment was about, grew impatient.
„Come on, Clary, we´re saying hello to Simon." She grabbed Clary by her arm and dragged her towards the stage. They stopped right behind the blonde girl and Isabelle cleared her throat loudly to catch their attention. The girl turned her head towards Clary and Izzy and looked at them irritably. Izzy recognized that look. It was the look she had always given Alec when he had disrupted her at a promising flirt.
The girl´s expression suddenly became self-conscious as she saw the death glare Izzy was shooting her. „Signing session is later, Get off your tush for the VIPs." she announced and pushed the girl away not quite gently. Clary gave her a sideglance she chose to ignore. Then, before Izzy could do anything, Clary threw herself at Simon and hugged him. „That was a hell of a show." she said and Simon frowned. „Really? You liked it?" Clary grinned and released her friend from her embrace. „No. But others did, it girl was totally flirting with you."
Simon was so impertinent to smirk. „Veronica? Uh, no, she just dropped by to give me her phone number and invited me for a drink later at her home. It was totally innocent."
Izzy rolled her eyes at his sarcasm. „She did not give you her number." she said.
„No. But she did say I was cute." he said, still grinning.
Izzy bit her lip. When she had started dating Simon, she had not expected having to worry about competition – after all she was Isabelle Lightwood and Simon was... Simon.
Since that thing with Maia she had of course thought about it, that other girls could likely realize how great Simon was. Still, this was new to her. And she didn´t like it all that much.
Clary shot her a sideways glance and tried unsuccesfully to hide a grin. „Well, that´s because you are cute. Right, Isabelle?"
Izzy gave her an annoyed look. „Would I be dating him if he wasn´t?" she said shortly.
„And there I thought you dated me because of my uncontrollable badassness." Simon remarked and Clary and Izzy giggled.
„Seriously though." Izzy said and drew closer to Simon. „Do I have to watch out from now on? Fight my way through shrieking fangirls to get to you?"
Simon´s eyes lit up at her words. „God, that would be awesome! We could rename our band to The Crazy Hot Ladiesmen or something."
Clary laughed. „How catchy."
„You know, it´s my fault she´s been flirting with you." Isabelle claimed. „That leather jacket combined with those pants I gave you – it´s damn sexy!"
Simon laughed and his face turned, ever so slightly, red. „You´re sure it´s not all down to my badass vampire mojo?" Izzy crinkled her nose which she knew Simon loved. „Don´t overstep yourself here, mister!"
Clary tilted her head to the side. „Did you really steal Alec´s jeans?" she wondered and Izzy smiled innocently. Simon looked down to his jeans and frowned. „I´m wearing Alec´s pants?"
Izzy wasn´t sure if he really minded or if he was just baffled.
„I mean, if you had to steal someone´s clothes for me, couldn´t you have stolen them from Jace? At least he has more style."
Izzy raised one brow. „I didn´t know you wanted to get into Jace´s pants." she teased.
„Or that you already got into Alec´s pants." Clary added, grinning.
Simon shook his head in a manner that said they were being ridiculous.
Isabelle waved her hand dismissively. „He´ll be fine. If he runs out of clothes he could just wear Magnus´ clothes boyfriend-style."
Clary and Simon snickered.
Simon bent forward to play with a strand of Isabelle´s raven hair. She normally hated that, but at Simon, the gesture was oddly sweet and charming. A smile appeared on her face almost subconciously. She couldn´t help it. Never would she have dreamed that a boy could make her feel like this, that she would get a strange feeling of homesickness whenever they were apart for a longer time and breathtakingly elated as soon as he was near her.
And apparently a vicious burn in the area around her stomach when a beautiful girl other than Isabelle herself tried to flirt with Simon. Her gaze turned to the blonde girl from earlier and she gritted her teeth. Simon, always noticing things the usual observer wouldn´t notice, followed her gaze and a smile tugged at his lips – only this time he was sensible enough not to smirk.
„You know, if we ever make the breakthrough," he said, brushing a hand through Izzy´s hair. „I promise I will ask my manager to get some VIP tickets for you two."
Izzy laughed and leaned against him so that her forehead touched his. „Only for us? Magnus, Alec and Jace will be highly disappointed."
Simon shrugged. „I´ll find something for them. They´ll be my bodyguards. After all, someone has to protect me from all these crazy fangirls."
Izzy pulled away to hit him playfully on the arm. „You´re an idiot."
„Ahh, but a handsome idiot, ain´t I?"
Izzy rolled her eyes but she let him pull her into a chaste kiss, quick but gentle. It were times like these when the three words were almost too easy to speak out loud. It was scary and wonderful at the same time but she wasn´t ready to utter the words just yet. Simon didn´t seem to mind though. He was patient enough to give her the time she needed. Another reason why she loved and trusted him so much. So it was only natural to grab the front of his shirt and press their lips together for a second time. „Oh yes, you are." she whispered against his lips. They stayed like this until the break was over, not even realizing when Clary had left them for themselves.
„Hey over there, womanizer. Care to join the band or are you too distracted?" It was Eric who called from the extemporary stage, rather annoyed looking and one eyebrow raised. Reluctantly, Simon stepped away from Izzy and shook his head at Eric. „Sorry ´bout him." he said and Izzy laughed. „I´m used to morons, you know that. I´ve lived with Alec and Jace for years after all."
Simon nodded, apparently not sure if it was wise for him mocking his girlfriend´s brothers, especially if they had yet to decide whether they liked him or not.
When he made a move to the stage, Izzy retreated to her friends (who were standing around the table, bored) – but not without casting another haughty glance at the tedious blonde from earlier. She certainly was glad that Simon´s band was so sucky. She rather enjoyed to be – with Clary, of course – the most important girl in Simon´s life.
