AN: OK damn it's been nearly two years since I last updated this and the only excuse I have is well, life. Anyway, I thought I'd try and see if I still had it and finally update this. Shout out to olivegray33 who gave the 1300th review on this story. I hope you like it. Also I'm Garvez trash, just so you're aware.
Something was off. Luke Alvez had only been with the BAU team for a short while, however he knew something wasn't right about the team's behaviour and actions. It was like they knew something he didn't. Luke was aware of the rumours and stories about the BAU's behaviour over the years. Some which seemed plausible with the team, others merely exaggerated rumours. He had never actually witnessed any of their infamous pranks or childish antics, now however as he felt a strange tension in the air, maybe he should have given wind to the rumours.
"Is everything OK?" Tara asked Luke as she watched him treat everything he touched or even looked at as if it would explode.
"Fine," Luke dismissed. So far there was nothing out of the ordinary. Emily and Rossi were in their offices, Rossi on the phone, clearly to Joy as he was smiling and had his feet up on the desk. Emily was also on the phone and had her hand in her hair, clearly frustrated at whoever was on the other end. Garcia had come into the bullpen to speak to see JJ's latest photos of Henry and Michael and Reid was the only one seemingly making headway with the mountain of paperwork they had to catch up on. There was nothing happening inside or outside of the BAU it seemed, even Mr Scratch seemed to be keeping his creepy head down for the moment.
"If you're sure." Tara said. "You know you can talk to any of us right?"
"I know and it's appreciated." Luke said as he picked up his coffee mug. Thankfully today the coffee machine had been left well enough alone. "Coffee?"
"Sure," Tara said as she glanced at the others before all four of them stood. The rest of the bullpen, who were veterans of the BAU's behaviour all stopped their own work and waited to see what would happen. They all knew the team had planned something. Poor Luke was the only one who had been oblivious.
Poor Newbie.
Garcia placed her finger to her ear first, the way she would if she had an earpiece in. JJ, Reid and Tara did the same. Luke, with his back to them noticed the shift in tension in the room and in his peripheral vision, realised his team mates were approaching him a second too late.
"GET DOWN MR. PRESIDENT!" Garcia bellowed as she, JJ, Reid and Tara all launched forwards and tackled Luke, sending him crashing to the floor; his mug spinning from his hand and shattering into pieces. Luke felt the wind rush out of him as he hit the floor with a painful smash and the rest of the team piled on top of him. It took a moment of coughing and gasping before he could breathe enough to get out the one question in his mind.
"What the hell?" Luke asked, still lying on the floor as the rest of the team got off his back, either sitting or kneeling on the floor.
"Get down Mr. President." JJ repeated. "Haven't you ever played?"
"No! Why the hell would you do that?" Luke asked as he pushed himself up and looked at the shattered remnants of his mug. That was his favourite one too.
"We haven't played in a while." Reid offered. "Plus Garcia thought it would be funny if we played but didn't tell you the rules."
"Which are?" Luke prompted, his annoyance starting to fade as Garcia smiled that smile she only seemed to give him. The one that was both slightly irritating and very adorable.
"Everyone has to put their finger to their ear, like we're in the field or Secret Service. The last person to do it becomes the President and well, you know the rest." Garcia explained. "Apart from not playing it in the field, there aren't any rules."
"Good to know I guess." Luke said as they got up. Tara helped him clear up the shattered cup as Emily emerged from her office and walked towards the coffee machine, muttering various curse words under her breath. As she neared them, Emily gave them a small smile, rubbed her temples and began to make herself some coffee. Luke glanced at Emily's back before he looked at Garcia and JJ and silently raised his finger to his ear.
"Don't even think about it." Emily warned in a low, dangerous voice without turning around. Luke's hand fell from his ear and looked at the rest of the team.
Maybe another time.
