Bolts of a Quiver

Her poise initially had pricked Will's suspicion.
No peasant glided quite like a princess. Will had spent enough time with Evelyn to recognize it. Merida drew a bow like Ranger, though. Will enjoyed several days of Merida pretending to be a peasant, with her well-trained war horse and unmarried despite her age. Will pretended to be nothing more than a guide for the Princess of Aurelan, so they were even. They teased information out of each other to help the current peace negotiations between their countries.
If it wasn't for that vibrant hair, Will would have tried to recruit her into the Corps. There was precedence, after all. He could just imagine Crowley and Halt's faces if he were to suggest it. The wild, red curls were too recognizable, eye-catching and impossible to hide.
Princess Cassandra considered the negotiations to be a success, as did the queen. Merida's father seemed disappointed that the Aurelans were not upset or scandalized when the princess was revealed. He and his sons seemed playfully itching for a fight. Merida was disappointed until Princess Cassandra started swapping stories of events while incognito. Then Will was forgotten amidst the camaraderie. The Rangers preferred it that way.
