Sugar's Turn

Sugar

Year: Junior

School Clubs: President of Mud Wrestling Club (And sole member)

Role in Cinderella: Evil Stepmother

People who like Sugar: …

The room fell silent. The teens stood in complete horror. It was Sugar's turn. This meant one of two things: either one of them was going to have to take a dare or one would be faced with a dare so terrible, they would be forced to kiss Sugar. While the latter seemed like an impossibility, for no dare could possibly be so bad, the insignificant odds were like a black hole sucking in any hope or joy in the room.

"Take Five!" Everyone yelled out. Everyone with the exception of Sugar ran into the second room and closed the door. They all went into a circle, locked arms and huddled together.

"What are we going to do? What are we going to do? We're doomed, we're fucking doomed." Dave whimpered.

"Stay strong Dave!" Sky tried to encourage him.

"What was Sugar's name even doing in the hat?" Jasmine yelled directly at Topher.

"I don't know! I didn't put her name in there. Do you think I am crazy?" Topher shouted back at her, without any regard for Sugar standing in the next room, probably able to hear him.

"You started this game! This is all your fault," Samey called out continuing the assault.

Beardo raised his hands in an attempt to calm everyone. "Guys! Guys. We can't fight amongst ourselves. Topher is not the enemy here: Sugar is. Don't hate the game, hate the player."

"What are we going to do?" Rodney asked the group.

"Calm down. Whoever it lands on will take the dare. Simple. No dare could be so bad," Sky tried to reason with the group. "Right Topher?" Topher's face slowly turned ghost white. A look of pure terror filled his face. "Topher?" Sky questioned. He remained frozen. "Topher? What kind of dares are in there?" She grabbed the front of his shirt panicked. "What kind of dares?" She cried out.

Rodney put up his hands about to speak. The group, including the girls turned towards him. He began to shake as he spoke. "Space. Novel. Rooftop. Chariot."

"Thanks for adding Rodney," Jasmine said dismissively. "Like always."

"We could start a fire!" Shawn suggested. "If the house is on fire there is no way we can continue the game."

Leonard shook his head violently. "We are not burning down my house!" He paused momentarily. "Unless," he said, looking down at his hand before shaking his head. "No. This is no time for fireballs. No matter the urgency."

"We don't have a choice. We agreed to this game. We must follow through with it," Scarlett declared solemnly, shaking her head. "Enough talk. We knew the risk. We knew the score."

Topher placed his hand on her shoulder. "Scarlett's right. It's for the good of the game." She swatted his hand off of her sharply, causing him to recoil slightly.

"Hmffphmmhm?" Max tried to speak, but was still muffled by the duct tape covering his mouth. He struggled in the chair next to Rodney, who had dragged him into the next room.

"Let's face the music," Sky said, as everyone lifted their arms and left the huddle.

The teens left the second room in a single file, their heads down. "Okay Sugar. Spin." Topher said, speaking for the group.

Sugar stood in the middle of the room, the bottle right next to her feet. "Alright. Alright. Alright." There was a sinister smile covering her face. They were in her house now. Sugar was in control. She knew it. She loved it. She pulled out a pack of gum from her jeans, grabbed a piece, and tossed it into her mouth. Throwing the pack to the side, she kicked up the bottle from her feet, and started to spin it on one finger. She smacked the gum in her cheeks. "So, who's ready to pucker up?"

Sugar knew this was her chance. They did not give her the proper directions to the party. They tried to ditch her. They did not even put her name in the hat. But, most of all, they had not let her play Cinderella. This was her chance to show them that she was the real princess. They would realize their mistakes and bask in the beauty of the one true Cinderella. All it would take, just like the story, was a single kiss. Or was that Sleeping Beauty? Sugar could never keep those stupid Disney stories straight.

The group formed a circle around her, taking their places slowly, and not too closely, like she was a terrible idol and they could not escape its grasp. Once they were all properly in place, Sugar took the spot between Scarlett and Rodney, winking at Ella as she took her place. Ella let out a small yelp, quickly covering her face, and burying herself into Dave's shoulder. Dave, only partially sobered up by the events, froze in place, as if by staying perfectly still, Ella would stop touching him.

"It's time," Sugar said.

She placed the bottle on the group and spun it violently.

The whole group watched as it: spun, spun, spun, spun. Sugar began to apply lip gloss, dabbing it on with her finger. The rest of the group was perfectly silent, as if the air was completely gone from the room. It began to slow down, every person the bottle passed winced violently as it pointed in their direction, dragging to a halt before:

Topher.

Everyone gasped. Topher jumped back from the group, as if a snake had been thrown on him. "Bottle! Sugar! Bottle!" He said incoherently, pointing at the bottle on the ground. With all his might, he shouted out: "DARE!"

"Damn," Sugar said, pausing from applying her lip gloss. "I was about to give you some treatment that would have made you a legend at school."

A shiver rolled down Topher's back. He was still too much in shock to speak. The rest of the group tried to stare at him with empathetic eyes, but mostly they were too relieved to hide their happiness that it was not happening to them. Plus, if anyone, Topher kind of deserved it. It was his game after all. Rodney picked up the hat of dares and handed it to Topher.

Topher pulled out a slim piece of paper and read it. He was silent for a moment, before saying: "you know what? This game is stupid. Forget I even suggested it. Let's play hungry hungry hip-" Topher began tailing off, Jasmine snatched the piece of paper from his grasp. He desperately tried to grab it back but Jasmine was easily able to hold him off with her superior reach.

"The dare is" Jasmine began to read, smiling deeply "You must run down a public street completely naked."

The group erupted into laughter.

"Seriously? That's your dare?" Sky asked. "Why would you even put that into the hat?"

"Who wouldn't want to watch someone run down the street?" Topher spoke, "someone who is not me." his entire spirit deflated. His eyes were wide open and glossy, like he was looking through everything to something on a deeper plane of experience.

Jasmine handed him back the piece of paper. "Well, you dug your own grave on this one. No sympathy from me here. You wouldn't show any to me or the girls if we picked it."

"What are you going to do?" Shawn asked.

"I don't know," Topher admitted. He moved his head forward and looked around the room. Most had smiles on their faces, exciting to see him suffer. Ella looked a little confused, as she often did, as if she did not completely understand what was going on. He wanted to find some kind of signal in Scarlett's face, but it was blank and neutral. Her eyes were squarely on him while she sipped her scotch. "Do I have to?" he asked out of desperation.

"Absolutely," Jasmine ordered. "You're not getting out of this so easily."

"Yeah!" Sugar said firmly. "Ain't no way Sugar's not getting her turn." She walked right up to him, and pulled him off the couch. "You either doin' this dare, or Sugar's getting some sugar." She dragged him along the floor, while he desperately tried to stay on his feet, up the stairs and out of the basement.

"Now strip!" Sugar ordered. Her arms were folded across her chest. She and Topher stood in the middle of a suburban street a couple blocks down from Leonard's house. "We ain't got all day."

The rest of the group stood on the sidewalk, watching the two of them. Leonard snacked on some chips he brought from the party, while Rodney was tired from dragging Max the distance. Max, who was still strapped to the chair with duct tape, sat calmly watching.

Topher shivered in the night, stealing glances at the group. "I don't think I can do this," he said aloud. He turned to look at Sugar puckering her lips, and he threw his shirt off onto the floor. He tried to cover his chest with his hands, embarrassed by the scene.

"This is the greatest night of my life," Jasmine announced.

"You dorks do kind of know how to party," Amy partially complemented.

"Oh my!" Ella said, covering her eyes with her hands.

Sky rolled her eyes. "Don't play that innocence card now. Plus, we have a lot more Topher to see."

Topher, who could hear them, let out a slight whimper. He clenched his fists. "Live by the sword, die by the sword," he said triumphantly, ripping off the beer bong strapped to his back (SEE CHAPTER 2). In quick succession, he undid his pants and took off his shoes, until he was standing in just his boxers. He hesitated. "Do I really need to remove my boxers?"

Sugar's face was stoic. "The dare said completely nude, boy."

Topher gulped. This was his last chance to get out of it. His chest rose and fell, as he breathed quickly. He stole a quick glance at the group, hoping to see how they were looking. His eyes quickly caught Scarlett's. She had her regular stern and serious look, but she gave him an acknowledging nod. He turned around so his back was facing them.

He pulled down his boxers.

Everyone cheered.

Topher kept his back to the group, his hands reaching down covering his genitalia.

"Oh yeah! That's the second best piece of ass I've seen all night!" Jasmine called out giving Sky a hearty slap on the butt.

"Jasmine!" Sky yelped. "You are enjoying this way too much."

Jasmine put her fingers to her mouth and whistled. "Come on Topher, turn around, give us the full show!"

"Actually this is totally fine!" Dave said. "We don't need to see anymore." All the other guys nodded in agreement.

Topher was cold and about as embarrassed as he could be. He kept looking over his shoulder but could not get a good look at anyone, including Scarlett. "This is enough right? Can I put my clothes back on."

"Oh no!" Sugar ordered. "You got to run down the street. And this looks like a pretty long street, so I'd better get running if I was you."

"Come on guys," Topher pleaded. "Sugar isn't in charge of this right?"

"All in favor of having Sugar dictate this entire dare?" Leonard asked. Everyone raised their hand.

Topher never felt more betrayed in his life. Sugar walked right up to Topher with a sinister smile. "Don't worry, I'll be right behind you to make sure you go all the way. Now run!" Sugar slapped Topher across the back with all her might. Topher jumped into the air and then began running down the road. Sugar began jogging after him at a lesser pase laughing maniacally.

The others watched as they disappeared down the road. "So should like we go after them?" Samey asked the group.

"Or we could just go back to Leonard's place drink and smoke some more weed and wait for them to return." Beardo suggested. They all seemed in agreement and headed back to Leonard's place.

Noah and Gwen stood on the front lawn of a frat house smoking cigarettes. The frat house was packed with people spilling out onto the lawn. Everyone had red cups filled with beer from the dozen kegs scattered around the premise. "Well in terms of frat parties this one isn't terrible." Gwen commented. "See any cute guys?"

"Naw," Noah said taking a long drag from his smoke. "Frat boys aren't my type. Finding anyone fuckable here is next to impossible."

Duncan exited the front of the house and headed down towards his two comrades. He licked his finger and quickly shuffled through some bills before stuffing the money in his pocket. "Just sold my second eightball of the night. Business is good."

"Nice to see these neanderthals are good for something." Noah said. Duncan put his arm around Gwen's waist, pulled her in and locked lips. "Did you see Courtney was in there?" To which Noah got no response as Gwen and Duncan continued to make out. Noah turned away shaking his head. That was when he noticed something down the street. "Am I going crazy or is that one of the kids from your place earlier currently running down the street naked?"

Topher was panting as he continued to run. His hands were firmly covering his private parts making his running feel awkward. Looking ahead he suddenly saw a large crowd of college aged people hanging out on a lawn. His panic mode immediately kicked in. Most of them seemed preoccupied but that last thing he wanted was to be seen. He looked back, considering running back but he saw further down the road Sugar was still in hot pursuit. His hopes of outpacing her were shattered.

When he turned back he was surprised to see someone now standing on the sidewalk facing him. The guy had a mohawk and a leather jacket and oh god no Topher thought when he realized it was Duncan. Duncan was clapping as he approached. Topher tried to come up with an escape plan but since the last strand of his dignity died about two blocks ago he figured he'd endure.

"Looking good man!" Duncan hollered as he got near. "High five man!" Duncan raised one of his hands up in the air. Topher instinctively raised his hand up to meet his. But Duncan pulled his arm down and pointed at Topher's now exposed genitals. "Ha! Nice junk man!" Topher immediately covered back up realizing his mistake. Duncan kneeled over he was laughing so hard. Gwen and Noah who were right behind him were leaning on each other laughing as were about a dozen other college kids on the lawn. Topher began to sprint to get as far away as he could.

Topher finally slowed down now that he was at least two blocks away from the frat house. His breaths were heavy now having run for so long. He decided he'd go two more blocks, and wait for Sugar. This had been far enough. Sugar was cruel but even she would have to say that he had done enough. Besides, he did not care anymore. He did not think he could care about anything again. At least he'd just went through the most traumatic moment of his life. He could not possibly top that. What could possibly be worse than that?

Lights flashed in front of Topher as a police car turned the corner from a side street. They drove up right in front of Topher and stopped. Topher's run came to an immediate halt as he was flushed by the lights from the front of the cop car.

The two front doors of the cruiser opened up and two police officers stepped out. Topher was so scared that he was violently shaking. The two cops were both male and appeared to significantly older. They had long hair down to their chins, one had white hair, the other had a faint beard and dark gray hair. "Well, well, well, what do we have here?" One asked as he flashed his flashlight in Topher's face. Topher was blinded by the bright light.

"You lost son? The other asked.

"Did you forget something too? When you left home?" The one with white hair asked with a chuckle.

"I know it's the beginning of summer, but it is still pretty chilly out. You might want to think of putting on some extra layers. Or you know, any layers at all." The dark gray haired cop said, also with a chuckle. They both walked over to Topher. "What's your name son?"

"Topher."

"Well, I'm Officer Gerry and this is my partner Pete. Did someone put you up to this?"

"Yes."

"Tsk. Tsk. Youth can be so cruel. Hope this isn't a new fad or something. I can't seem to keep up with what the kids think is cool these days." Gerry said.

"You haven't known what's cool since 1968." Pete joked at this partner, they both laughed. Topher gave a couple forced laughs along with them.

"Now listen Topher. Don't worry we won't bring you into the station or anything but we will have to take you home. Hopefully find you some pants. You got some pants at home right?"

"Yeah."

"Great." Pete said. "Come take a seat in the back and we'll take you there." They led Topher to the cruiser and opened one of the back doors.

"AHHHHH" Sugar yelled. The two cops and Topher turned to look up the road and saw Sugar charging towards them.

"What th-" Gerry called out. Sugar elbowed him straight in the face. She then jumped onto Pete's back and began hitting him repeatedly.

"Topher! Run!" Sugar ordered him.

"What? No! They were just going to-"

"Save yourself! Go! Run!" Sugar insistented.

Without any option Topher took off and ran with all his might. He paused after about twenty feet, turned back and yelled out "I don't know her!" Before continuing to run until he was a safe distance away.

He hid behind a tree and peered back at the cops. Sugar was now restrained by both the cops but she continued to struggle. He was a second away from taking off for Leonards place when something hit him. Sugar just saved him. Not only that Sugar just sacrificed herself, completely unnecessarily but that was besides the point. She had done something nice for him. She had done something nice period. He had never thought it possible and yet here he was. He felt bad, like he did not deserve it after how everyone had treated her. It was in that moment he decided to do something he never thought he'd ever do, repay Sugar.

He had one chance. He ran straight for the frat house. Once he got there he did not hesitate to enter. Inside, he searched through the scores of people until he finally found a familiar face. "Duncan!"

"Huh?" Duncan said. He was standing in a corner sipping a beer. "Shawn's friend?"

"I need your help. My friend is in trouble. She's been grabbed by some cops down the street."

"What? Cops? No way. Dude, do you have any idea how much drugs I have on me? It's impressive."

"Please, Sugar needs me." Topher pleaded.

"Wait." An unfamiliar voice spoke. Topher turned to see a frat boy with long blonde hair, cowboy hat, and bathrobe approached him. "Bro, did you say Sugar is in trouble?"

"Yes."

"You mean the undisputed 12 round champion of beer pong Sugar?"

"Um, yeah."

"Well naked boy. Lead the way."

Sugar was now laying on the ground. Both Gerry and Pete had to hold her down to keep her restrained. "Rodney King! Rodney King!" Sugar yelled repeatedly.

"What is with this girl?" Gerry muttered in frustration.

The two cops heard footsteps and looked up to see a half dozen frat boys standing beside them. The blonde haired frat boy with the cowboy hat stood in front. He held up a fire extinguisher. "Disappear!" He yelled out before smashing the fire extinguisher onto the ground. It exploded into a large cloud of vapor, clouding the cops' vision. The cops felt themselves both pushed onto the ground. When the vapor finally dissipated and they could see again, Sugar and the frat boys were gone.

Gerry and Pete just looked at each other. "Dunkin Donuts?"

"Dunkin Donuts." They got into the cop car and drove away.

"That was amazing Geoff! How'd you guys find me?" Sugar asked as they walked up to the frat house.

"All thanks to your friend." Geoff replied, he pointed to Topher who stood on the lawn.

Topher walked up to Sugar. "I'm going to head back to Leonard's, are you coming?"

Sugar was about to speak, but then she hesitated and shook her head. "No. My turn is done. There's no point in going back. Besides, this is where I belong."

"Okay." Topher nodded his head. "Thanks for saving me back there."

"Same." She and Topher shook hands. "You sure you don't want some Sugar before you go?" She asked, winking at him and puckering her lips.

"Definitely." Topher said immediately.

"Your loss. I'm sure someone here will want some." She turned back and began walking towards the Geoff and his group. "Come on boys! The party's just beginning!" Sugar declared as they headed inside. "Who wants some pills!"

"Sugar! Sugar! Sugar!" The frat boys cheered.

Topher strolled back to Leonard's house. Sitting out front was Rodney drinking a beer and Max who was still strapped to the chair with duck tape. "Where's everyone else?" Topher asked as he approached.

"They all got tired of waiting and headed back inside. I didn't want to haul him back down so I agreed to wait. It's cold out."

Rodney handed Topher a beer. Topher accepted it and began to chug it down. He started to do some stretches too. Rodney looked away. Max however, was unable to move, so he saw all of Topher. "MMHMOMHGODMNGMMYMGEYEEMMEEES!"

"You don't have to tell me that. Very cold. So cold that it would be nearly impossible to get a fair measurement. Right?"

"Of what?" Rodney asked, still looking away.

"Doesn't matter."

"Where is Sugar?"

"She's not coming back."

"Oh, want your pants?"

"Yes please."

Once Topher was fully dressed he and Rodney headed back inside and headed down the stairs into the basement. They had started to watch a Kung Fu film while they had been waiting. They all turned to see Topher enter the basement. They all began to clap. Topher took a couple bows.

"Where's Sugar?" Sky asked.

"She went back to that house party. She's not coming back."

There was a pause. Beardo then rushed to the speaker system, switched it back to a CD, cranked up the volume and everyone had an impromptu celebratory dance party.

"Wait, who's gonna pull out the next name?" Samey asked.

"Doesn't matter," said Scarlet. She grabbed it and pulled out a name.

"Beardo."

Beardo and Amy looked at each other.

Afterword:

I know, I know, It has been forever since we last posted a chapter. I'm really sorry. I was not even sure we were ever going to finish this one. Hopefully our next chapters won't take so long but no promises.

Earlier with this story we got some complaints that we were mistreating the Sugar character. But I think those people should remember who her character is and how she is portrayed in the show. Yes we had fun making everyone hate her, but in our defense she is meant to be a very unlikable character. That being said, we love Sugar, we've had a blast writing her this story. The best thing about her is that no matter how much shit is thrown at her, she is completely unfazed. We felt this was a proper sending off point for her, as we haven't focused enough on the core characters recently as much as we would like. She might be back, she might not, doesn't change the fact that she's awesome.

Please leave a review.
