Dogfight

Under Jupiter's red shadow,

Our fighters duck and weave.

Trading fire with the drones,

Foes that have come to reave.

Laserfire is exchanged,

The dogfight, it begins.

One by one our fighters fall,

I fear we cannot win.

The drones may succeed in this strike,

May prevail in their raid.

I request more fighters to be sent,

I admit that I'm afraid.

And soon I'm the last fighter left,

Reserves will come too late.

I switch the angle of my starship,

Fire globs of light in hate.

A drone is downed and so am I,

I drift in empty space.

Reflecting on the fight I've seen,

And on the human race.

Way out here deep in the dark,

Conflict, it remains.

Eternal battle, so unending,

And from despair I can't refrain.
