Synopsis: Miranda struggles with the start of her day.

It didn't matter how much she tried she just couldn't get it out of her head. Watching the person you love leave is an unrelenting memory. This black hole of empty numbness. Somewhere inside I want to crawl out of it I just can't find a way. It's cold and lonely down here, there is no sound, no colours, no comfort. Why oh why can't I leave. I can't find the door.

Gasping for air Miranda Priestly woke with a start. Throwing back her covers she felt hot and overwhelmed.

"It was just a dream" she chanted to herself "just a dream".

Walking into her on-suite on auto pilot, Miranda showered and dressed, readying herself for another full on day at Runway, still chanting "it was just a dream" but no matter what she did she could not rid herself of the feeling of dread the dream had evoked.

Sitting in the town car whilst Roy was driving her, Miranda checked her messages and emails, distracting herself and beginning her morning ritual of stepping out of the dream and focusing on work. It worked every morning since, "when did this start happening?" Miranda asked herself.

"No!" Shouting at herself in her head "don't go there, can't think about it, distracting, work only - the Givenchy shoot for the December issue was all wrong, I must speak to Nigel about that" dialling the number for her 2nd Assistant she told her to have Nigel be in her office when she got in. Miranda Priestly was going to hit the ground running this morning and not stop until she had nothing left!

Stepping from her car she pummelled her heels along the pavement, through the foyer and into the awaiting elevator, each step had a calming effect, with each step she grew stronger. The lift whizzed up, this morning going as fast as Miranda Priestly herself.

"Ping" the doors opened and there waiting for her was her Andrea, warmth flooded Miranda's body she was now ready to really start her day.

Reading her messages as she walked to her office whilst simultaneously firing off instructions to Andrea, Miranda's heart lifted. Andrea was hooked on Miranda's every word and Miranda loved the attention. It was funny because with all her previous assistants she couldn't have cared less.

Throwing her coat and bag at the new girl whilst simultaneously growling "coffee" at her Miranda swished in to her office with Andrea trailing.

Giving Andrea the head to toe look, slowly enjoying every inch she saw, hidden behind the "lets judge what your wearing today" excuse, Miranda gave a slight nod and said "that's all".

Andy smiled and said in her usual happy tone "yes Miranda" turned and walked to her desk to start on the long list of actions she had just been given by her demanding boss.

Miranda sat, turned to the magazines and started leafing through them, with a smirk on her face, happy that she would be able to get through another day at Runway with Andrea by her side.
