Constance Applebarm walked back over to the dead boy, as Kol made his way into the bathroom to have a bath as Constance had ordered. She quickly set to work applying the healing salve even though she knew it would make no difference to someone who is about to become a vampire. As she set to work her mind wandered to the past.

It the year 1442, a shy young girl walked up the gravel driveway towards the large manor. She had been sent by her mother at the age of 16 to start working at the manor after her grandmother's passing. After the poor harvest the previous fall and the increased taxes, her family desperately needed money and so she was sent to work at the manor to bring money into the family. Granny Beatrice had worked at the manor as a maid for almost seventy years as a cook and although towards the end of her life she hadn't been able to work as fast as she used to, the owners had kept her around and allowed her to live there until the time of her death. Constance had always thought it was strange that her grandmother had never talked about the owners of the manor and as she walked towards the large oak door she wondered what they were like and who lived there.

Constance brushed a lock of her long red hair behind her ear as she raised her hand to knock on the door.

She waited...

...and waited...

...and was about to turn back guessing nobody was home when suddenly a young good looking man with dark hair and eyes a contrast to his fair skin. He looked to be a few years older than her maybe late teens or early twenties and she guessed by how expensive his clothes look that he must be the son of the couple who lived here.

"Hello, you must be Bea's granddaughter. Your mother said you'd arrive today. I'm the Lord Kol Mikaelson." Kol said as he extended his hand to the girl in front of him. She looked young possibly mid teens and had long flowing red hair and green eyes. She was shorter than Kol by maybe a foot and he could practically sense the nervousness radiating off the girl.

"Ye-yes... that's right. I'm Constance. It's a pleasure to meet you my lord." Constance almost whispered.

"The pleasure is all mine. Bea told us all good things about you and specifically asked if you could have her job. We all thought of her as family and she will be missed. And don't worry about calling us lord or lady, you can call us by our names. I'm Kol. There's also Klaus, 'Lijah and Bekah but they're out at the moment. You'll most likely meet them next week. Please follow me and I'll show you to your room." Kol said trying to calm the girl. Bea would stake him if he was rude to her favourite granddaughter.

Before showing her to her room, Kol gave Constance a quick tour of the house and where the bathrooms, kitchen, sitting rooms and finally Constance's room. The room was sizeable with a large bed in the centre with oak bedside tables. A small chair lay in the corner of the room next to an empty bookcase. On the bed was a journal and on the bedside table a quill and ink.

"You're free to customise the room however you like and can borrow books from the library downstairs. The room next to this one belonged to your grandmother. You're free to look through her belongings and take anything you want. She'd want you to have it."Kol said a sadness evident on his face. He then turned abruptly and left the room leaving Constance alone in the room.

That was the first time Constance met Kol and she soon adjusted to life within the manor. The family didn't eat much and told her she only had to cook for herself or if a guest was visiting which rarely happened. Constance soon settled in to a routine, at 8am she would wake up and help the maids clean and then at 11am she would cook food for the rest of the staff and herself and the rest of the staff would go home as they all had families and she would spend her time reading or chatting to a member of the family especially Kol and would then cook dinner for the family and wash the pots and would then relax. Over her years at the manor she had started a garden outside the kitchen where she grew fruits, vegetables and herbs as well as flowers for vases around the house.

It was July 16th 1446, Constance ran through the house towards the door as she heard it knock. She was expecting a delivery from the local bakery of cakes and bread for the upcoming ball. She opened the door to a handsome man in his early twenties with golden blonde hair and hazel eyes and the sight of him made something inside her feel all funny.

" Hello ma'am I'm here to deliver the bread you ordered." The man spoke in a deep voice.

"Thank you, would you mind helping me carry it to the kitchen?" Constance asked tucking a lock of hair behind her ear.

"Sure thing. I'm David by the way. My grandfather owns the bakery." The man replied.

" Constance. Nice to meet you." Constance smiled as she picked up a crate of bread and headed to the kitchen.

Over the next few weeks, David delivered the bread more and more often and eventually the pair started dating and on their one year anniversary David arrived at the manor door and proposed.

David knocked. Hands sweating. He was nervous. Constance opened the door with a smile.

"David? I didn't know you were coming by?" Constance asked confused.

" I have a delivery for you." David replied before getting down on one knee," It's a ring. Will you marry me?"

"Yes!" Constance smiled as a tear of happiness slid down her cheek.

A few months later the couple got married and moved into a small cottage a distance from the manor that the Mikaelson's had built for them. After a year, David and Constance Applebarm welcomed their son Tomas into the world. David took over the bakery from his grandfather and Constance continued to cook at the manor and looked after Tomas and whilst she was busy Kol or Rebekah looked after little baby Tomas. Constance had never been happier. The happiness continued for the next fourteen years. To celebrate Tomas' birthday, David was taking Tomas hunting deep in the forest however they never returned. After a few days Constance was worried, they had never been gone this long on one of their trips and so the Mikaelson's ventured into the forest to look for them but all they found were two bodied that had been ripped apart. Tomas' birthday was the day before the full moon and while camping overnight in the forest they ran into a werewolf and were murdered brutally. Constance wept for days and never remarried or had any more children instead she moved back into her room in the manor and had lived with the family ever since.
