The Bond of Brothers

Chapter 30

The four turtles arrived home in record time, they went straight to Donnie's lab and set him down on one of the cots.

Donnie eyes opened and Raph handed him his iron supplement.

Donnie took one with a nod.

He sat up and coughed a little, he needed to diagnose himself but he was pretty sure he knew what was wrong.

It felt like a fever and a bad one at that.

He beckoned Mikey to pass his computer, Mikey passed it quickly. They waited quietly as Donnie searched up his symptoms.

''Just a fever'' He smiled. ''It was brought on by the stress of the situation along with having drowned in freezing cold water''

''So you'll be ok?'' Leo asked in concern.

''I'll be fine, I just need to keep taking medication and rest. I should be better in about two weeks or so'' Donnie shrugged. The others looked unconvinced.

''Should we go back?'' Mikey asked quietly, ''Those dudes are fighting Shredder all on their own''

''Those dudes wanted Don dead'' Raph growled. ''Ta hell wit 'em''

Leo frowned and looked at Donnie.

''We can't… Donnie's too ill to be fighting'' He nodded. Donnie suddenly looked guilty.

''I don't want them to get hurt'' Don sighed. ''If you guys wanna go then go but you have to promise that… that…'' The brothers frowned. ''You have to promise that you'll all come back without any serious injuries. I can't fix anyone just now''

The three brothers looked down at the fourth to see how worried he really was.

''If you're sure you'll be ok'' Leo gulped.

''It's not me I'm worried about'' Donnie shuddered. ''I don't want to be waiting here for none of you to come back… just please be careful''

''We will bro'' Mikey grinned. ''C'MON GUYS!''

Leo followed Mikey out.

''We'll all come back Donnie'' Raph nodded. ''Rest''

''I will Raphie'' Don whispered as Raph left.

The three brothers rushed out of the lair and headed straight for Shredder's lair. They wanted to be quick so they could get back to Donnie.

It was easy to sneak in seeing as there were no foot ninjas, it was harder to find the throne room.

''Dude! This is taking forever'' Mikey moaned. ''Surely it can't be that far now''

''I think it's the room just around this corner'' Leo frowned, ''I'm not sure though''

''Where are all the fightin' sounds?'' Raph asked angrily. ''Did they chicken out or somethin'?''

They fell quiet as they listened but it was completely silent. They were hit with a pang of worry. Leo led them around the corner and they looked through the window, they could see Shredder pacing.

''Shredder's here but where are the others?'' Leo frowned. ''There hasn't been any fighting by the looks of things.

''Those cowards chickened out!'' Raph growled.

There was a sudden yell and Shredder was pinned under two mutants.

''Cool'' Mikey grinned. ''why didn't we think of that?''

''Lets go help'' Leo nodded, the three turtles rushed in and joined the battle.

Meanwhile back in the lair Donnie had just taken his medicine and was trying to settle down for some sleep but all he could think about was his brothers.

What if they were captured again?

What if Shredder won?

He tossed and turned in his bed as horrible thoughts hit him over and over making him scared out of his mind.

He had never had to deal with stress like this before, he felt cold and alone.

He closed his eyes and focussed on his brothers, his father had taught him this many years ago but he had never tried it since.

''Guys… Please be ok''

He opened his eyes and shuddered as more thoughts hit him, he curled up in a ball and prayed.

Leo was whacked against the wall, he slumped down between his two other brothers. They were losing. The other two mutants were at the other side of the room trying to catch their breath.

Shredder was heading towards the turtles.

Suddenly Donnie's voice rang through their ears, he sounded terrified.

Mikey was the first to react. He leapt up with a new energy to win, he ran at the Shredder and knocked him off his feet.

''That's for drowning Donnie!'' He growled.

Raph run up with fire in his eyes and stabbed Shredder in the stomach.

''That's for scaring him with the dog thing''

Leo sliced Shredder across the face cutting the enemies eye.

''And that's for making us leave him''

Shredder let out a cry of rage, he leapt up and kicked Leo and Raph away.

Mikey jumped away from the Shredder before beating him with his nunchucks.

He was desperate to get home to his ill brother. Using the anger and sadness he felt he leapt one final time and smashed his nunchuck into the side of Shredder's skull. He felt the bone break and cave in.

Mikey backed away as Shredder's dead body hit the ground.

''Mikey! That was amazing!'' Raph grinned as he slung an arm around Mikey's shoulder.

''Nice one little brother'' Leo rubbed Mikey's head. ''You did good''

Mikey beamed at them as Tyler and Lyle came over.

''Thanks for the help'' Lyle nodded. Tyler smirked.

''Where's the purple one?'' He asked nastily, ''Is he dead? He deserves to be after he killed my brother''

Raph punched Tyler in the face causing the mutant to fall down.

''He ain't dead but you will be if ya keep talkin' like dat!'' He growled.

''Don wasn't the cause of your brother death. Shredder was'' Leo snarled,

Mikey grabbed Leo's and Raph's hand and led them out the room.

''They're not worth it guys'' He nodded. ''We'd better get home, Don'll be worried''

They agreed and headed home.

Donatello was dozing in his bed, he jumped suddenly as another thought appeared in his mind. He looked at the clock.

They had been gone for an hour and a half.

He had no idea how long the battle would last but he thought that it would only be an hour considering five skilled warrior were fighting one man.

He began to think the worst, he shivered and tried to breathe through the panic that was building in his chest.

He coughed harshly before falling into a fit of coughs. He couldn't breathe with the fear he was feeling, tears stung at his eyes.

He heard someone enter the lair.

He swallowed thickly and moved to get out of bed only to fall straight out and onto his face.

He heard gasps from the main area. He jumped up and ran to them.

He stopped when he saw his brothers, he scanned them over quickly before rushing to hug them.

''You guys are ok!'' Donnie grinned. They sat down together and Leo told Donnie everything that had happened.

Donnie grinned at Mikey.

''Nice one bro'' He hugged Mikey.

Mikey grinned with a faint blush.

They took Donnie back to the lab and forced him into bed before cleaning themselves up. Everything was good again and they were all glad to be home.

Within a week and a half Donnie was much better with only a small cough remaining, each turtle still had the odd nightmare about their capture but it was easily forgotten.

Everything was back to normal and Shredder and the foot clan would never bother them again.

Or so they thought.

Karai had come back from her training in Japan, she had heard about all that had happened and had made sure to bring with her as many foot soldiers as she could.

It was time to take over her father's reign. She would do what her Father couldn't, she vowed to kill the turtles and to take over New York.

She would be a truly powerful ninja and the city will be hers.
