I was just hunting in the gorge, then I heard the screams. I raced on top of the rocks, and took a flying leap off the Rockpile. Oh, I never told you my name? I'm Plumwillow, a warrior of SkyClan. My brothers and sister are warriors, too, except Applepaw and Berrypaw, who are my apprentice-age sisters. Now, back to the story. I sprinted to the medicine cat's den and heard the screams even louder. They were coming from Birdfall, a new warrior as of two sunrises ago. She had been expecting kits as an apprentice, though it was against the code.
She must be giving birth, I thought. I go to get some moss soaked with water. Then I leave, not much caring for seeing those things. I head out towards my brother Nettlesplash to go hunting. It is very brief, as it was just to keep his mind off Birdfall. He is the father of her kits. Nettlesplash was a nervous wreck, and he kept scaring away the prey. He kept pacing around trees in the forest and rustling the undergrowth, so we went back to camp. When we got back, Frecklewish, the medicine cat apprentice, was waiting.
"Nettlesplash, the kits have been born. Two she-cats and three toms."
A large litter. Haven't had one this big since I was born, and that was only four kits! I thought.
Nettlesplash and I headed into the nursery.
"Nettlesplash! You're here!" Birdfall replies to our entrance. "We have to name the kits."
I look at the kits nestled in her belly. One she-cat was black, like Birdfall, but had a brown flash over her eye. The other she-cat was brown and white. One tom was entirely black, and the other two were gray and black tabby.
"Birdfall, they're beautiful. I want this one to be Leafkit, after Leafstar." Nettlesplash announced. He pointed to the brown and white she-kit.
"Birdfall, do you mind if I name one?" I asked.
"Of course. Which one?"
"I want to name this one-" I point to the the black and brown she-cat-"Morningkit, after the beautiful day we have here."
"A beautiful name too. I want to name the two gray toms Thunderkit and Stormkit."
Nettlesplash butts into our naming. I want to name the last kit Sunkit. I have always wanted a kit named Sunkit."
Beautiful names for beautiful kits. I hope they grow up well. Not like me… the flood, the rats, the rogues, everything…
THE END
