It had been a year since Sophie had returned Howl's heart to his chest. And in that year, their feelings for each other had only grown stronger. Howl regularly took Sophie on little outings all over the world, and she had seen many places she thought she would never see. But at the end of the day, the field full of flowers was their one special place they could always go to.

On what seemed like an ordinary day, Howl escorted Sophie on a little lunch out in the field. It was a beautiful day out and the warm breeze nuzzled the couple like an old friend.

The two of them laid on a blanket, Sophie's head resting on Howl's chest as his arm wrapped around her, pulling her close.

"Sophie, are you happy?" Howl asked.

"Of course I am. Why would you even ask that?" she replied with a warm smile.

"I just love hearing you say you're happy."

Howl stood up and pulled Sophie up with him.

"Is something wrong?" she asked.

"No, not at all." Howl took her hands in his. "Sophie, I love you. I've never known such pure love in my entire life. Ever since you put my heart back in, I've felt things for you that I've never felt for anyone else. I've always thought you were the most beautiful woman I've ever seen. I spent years and years searching for you after I saw you when I was a child. And when I finally found you, you were even more beautiful and perfect than I had ever imagined you to be."

"Howl, where are you going with this?" Sophie asked, even though she had a pretty good idea already.

"You've changed my life in more ways than one. You've made us a true family. You, me and Markl. You've brought me more joy than I've ever experienced before. I want to spend the rest of my life with you, Sophie. Because I can't imagine life without you."

His hand went into his pocket and he pulled out a small box. Then he got down on one knee and opened it. Sophie put her hand to her mouth and tears sprung to eyes as she gazed at an exquisite ring.

"Sophie Hatter, will you marry me?"

Sophie nodded and whispered, "Yes, I will."

Howl slid the ring onto her finger and the two of them shared a beautiful passionate kiss. They sank down onto their knees, still pressing their lips to each other. When they finally broke apart, Sophie flung her arms around his neck and they both fell over, not unlike when she had put his heart back in. They laughed as Howl pulled her closer and they kissed again.

This really was their one special place.
