"It's good to see you up Ryuzaki, I just wish it didn't mean you had to go." Light said as the trio walked out of the medical building together.

"Yes, it is unfortunate. However, that is life. Someone comes into your life for a reason, but can't always stay. My job is done here. It is Near's responsibility now." Watari watched the two before clearing his throat.

"L, stay here, I'll get the car, I don't want you doing a lot of walking right now. Light, can you stay with him, make sure he's alright?"

"Of course." They waited for Watari to leave them.

"Thank you, for giving me this chance." Light said honestly.

"If you truly wish to thank me, you'll take the advice."

"I plan to. I'll cooperate with Near and-"

"I am happy to hear it. You are a very intelligent person Light, use your gift wisely."

"I will. I'm not going to see you again am I Ryuzaki?" L turned to him.

"For your sake, I hope not. I am not a social person, if the day comes that you and I meet again, it is because I am investigating a crime and I sincerely hope it is not you behind it. Things never happen the same way twice., do you understand?"

"In other words, you won't let me go a second time."

"That's right. Why would you ask that?"

"Because you taught me a lot, and I really think we could be friends." L smiled faintly.

"Light Yagami, you are unbelievable. I would have had no problem having you arrested had I not become deathly ill, you wanted to kill me and now you want to be friends."

"That was before, you believe people can change don't you?"

"Some people can."

"You're an amazing detective. It really is an honor to work with you...L."

"As I understand it, we are far off from the taskforce building, perhaps I can get Watari to stop for something to eat, will you join me, as a celebration of the end of the Kira case?"

"Thanks Ryuzaki, it'd be nice." Light sensed it was L's way of accepting his friendship. It was late by the time they reached thr taskforce headquarters.

"This is it, enjoy your time off Ryuzaki, goodbye Watari, thank you, you've both taught me something, I won't forget it.

"Nor will we forget everything you have done. Farewell Light Yagami, I wish you the best." Light stepped out of the car and was met by his father.

"I take it Ryuzaki's better?"

"Yeah, there's no trace of that illness anywhere."

"Good." Mr. Yagami said nodding his head.

"Listen Light, if you want to go home, we can handle things here, you don't look like you've had much sleep."

"I'm fine. I can work, It's not a problem." The chief placed an arm around light's shoulder and the two walked inside.

-two years later-

Light sighed, his current case was too easy, he had to wonder why his father didn't give him anything more challenging. The Kira case had been closed for over a year. He stood from his chair and began to leave the room, he was more than ready to go home.

"Light Yagami, it has been a long time." A familiar voice came through the laptop he had left on the desk.

"Ryuzaki, It's good to hear your voice, how are you?" A smile appeared on Light's face.

"There is no time to catch up. I am currently working a case and could use your help. Are you interested?"

"Just tell me what I need to do."

"Excellent, please listen carefully, I have very little time and many details to share, I am sending the data as we speak. Once you have received it, exit the building, Watari is waiting."
