Anna

It was a rather unusual day.

Anna woke up two hours late and dragged her feet around the flat till ten. For some reason she couldn't bring herself to wear black and visit her parent's graves. She sighed and stared down into her empty coffee mug. It had never been too hard to wash up and head to the cemetery with her sister. But Leila had moved out weeks ago... leaving her alone to deal with her issues.

And it was a Sunday. Anna didn't even have work to hide behind.

She ran her fingers through her impossible hair and tried to avoid looking at the picture of her parents by the night stand. But it was like trying to not see your other eye when you faced the mirror. It would always be there in your field of vision.

A tear slipped down her face.

Her mom was on her dad's back, laughing with her hair all over her face. Her dad had his neck craned back, staring into the blues of her mother with his grey, his dimples standing out even after so many years since he was gone.

Anna roughly wiped her face, grabbed her keys and stomped out of her flat. She didn't bother that she was being extremely rude to her neighbours who she was pushing past. She didn't even care that she was in her pyjamas.

She just wanted to breathe a moment without guilt chocking down on her.

She got into her car and started driving blindly, turning wherever she pleased and almost running through angry pedestrians and vehicles, their screams and honks bouncing off her ears.

A soft sob escaped her mouth.

She was fifteen again and yelling at her mom for being unfair. She'd lied about going to the movies to spend a night with her friends in the club. So what if she was underage? It was only that one time and her friends had been doing it for quite a while.

And then when she'd been grounded she ran away... killing her parents in the process. They looked everywhere for her but missed the truck that was coming right at them.

Now at twenty-three Anna was at the top of the world. She was on the board of directors of Archi Corps and had her own house... several ones and cars and more money than she could ever spend but she was all alone and she would always be.

It was better that way. She was done destroying lives.

Her tires skidded on the gravel and her car spun. Her eyes opened wide and dilated.

Unlike her parents her autopsy would say that she saw it coming.

Percy

Percy huffed and blew his cheeks out. He stared down at the girl on his lap for what felt like the millionth time since he had pulled her out of that smoking car. He didn't get what she was doing so far away from the coastal town. He had been on his way, back from his auditions. Their answer was still the same. They always were.

Thanks, we'll let you know.

He lightly touched her cheek and tried to wake her up. She was really something. Long tresses of spun gold fanned all over his lap in unbelievable curls. Her lips were pale but plump and even though she was sweating and mumbling she had this certain... flair to her. He couldn't just look away and ignore her after he'd seen her crash...

The girl stirred and slowly placed a hand over her head and groaned.

Percy whistled,

"Bet it hurts like hell. How many of me can you see?"

Her eyes snapped open and stared up at him. For a moment her stormy eyes looked calm, as if somehow seeing him had magically quenched her inner turmoil but then it all rushed in and her face clouded. She sat up fast then winced.

He tossed her his bottle and leaned back against the maple tree.

"So... you crashed against a tree three miles from the road?"

She ignored the water and him stiffly and stood up.

"It's none of your business."

He caught her wrist and looked straight into her eyes. It felt as if he had slammed against a wall and lost his balance. The world seemed to tip around her and break apart. He blinked and cleared his throat.

"You should call someone and sit for a second."

Confusion was chased away with sharp understanding.

"My car..."

"Was trashed."

Percy knew he shouldn't have grinned moronically at that but he just couldn't help it.

She glared at him and snatched her hand away. The sudden movement made her stumble and fall against him.

For a moment they stayed like that... with her chin on top of her chest and his hands lightly splayed on her back.

"Today's my mom's birthday."

And that's when she laughed. Her chest tensed and she rolled off him, clutching her belly and laughing.

Percy could feel his neck growing warm and rubbed it.

Real smooth Perce. Tell the pretty, hot girl that you're a mama's boy.

She coughed rubbed her eyes.

"Really? Then I'm glad I didn't die today."

The warmth left him at that and he was suddenly cold. He wondered what was wrong with him. He had never been so volatile with temperature before.

"Were you... did you crash intentionally?"

She looked at him and smiled sadly,

"Not really. But I deserved to."

He looked at her curiously,

"Why?"

She glanced at him then shrugged,

"I killed my parents."

"I don't believe you!"

The words escaped his mouth before he could think through them and the girl thought so too.

"I- I fought with them and ran away... they died in a crash trying to find me... I thought it would be the best way for me to go."

Percy folded his hands behind his head and dropped on the soft grass, staring up at the darkening sky.

"Once I was so mad at my mom I took all my blue paint and threw it on her clothes."

She smiled,

"She must have been out of mind."

He shook his head,

"She said she always wanted all her clothes blue and hugged me till I couldn't breath."

She laughed,

"My parents weren't like that... they were uptight but... they didn't deserve to die."

Percy instinctively pushed a lock of gold behind her ear,

"What I mean is just like my mom forgave me your parents must have forgiven you too. It's what they do. I think you already know that."

Her eyes grew misty. She dragged her sleeve against her eyes.

"Everyone keeps saying that but I can't believe it. I just- how can it ever be true?"

He looked at her sincerely, she blushed and looked down at her feet,

"I can't answer that for you but all I can say no- suggest is that, don't isolate yourself."

A sly smile crept up his lips,

"You'll be deriving people off your unique self."

She laughed and swatted against his shoulder. They were quite for a moment then she looked at him again,

"So? Your mom adores you. What about your dad?"

He looked at his feet and kicked a stone.

His dad... where should he start? Did he want to?

"He... haven't seen him in a while."

She gave him another one of her curious looks where he grey eyes shone even fiercely, her eyebrows quirked up in an adorable way.

Percy couldn't help it,

"I live with him... around the corner."

Her eyes widened dramatically and her head wiped from side to side.

"I was driving through Wes Avenue. This must be the Wes garden. You live around here... you... what's your name?"

"Percy"

"Percy what?"

He shifted uncomfortably and climbed to his feet. He knew he shouldn't have said anything about his father who somehow managed to ruin every good moment in his life even without being there.

"Look at the time! You should probably call someone now."

The shadow that fell over her face made him regret his words immediately.

"Or I could drop you off."

She ran a finger through the grass and gave him a small smile. His chest tightened. He wished she would throw her head back and start laughing again.

"Didn't you say it was your mom's birthday?"

He scratched the back of his neck.

"I did."

"So do you have a present for her?"

"No-not yet."

And then she got up and brushed the dirt off her pyjamas.

"Then we must get her one."

"We?"

He asked, slightly thrilled and slightly bewildered. He had assumed that she would decline his offer. How could she trust him? Moreover how could he trust her?

But he did.

"Yeah."

She twirled a long strand of her hair and looked at him timidly.

"If that is alright."

Percy grinned at her. She grinned back.

"I'm not going to be seen with a girl in her pyjamas."

Anna

He still hadn't asked for her name.

And he had made her play Jane Nichols in the mall.

"What about this one?"

She twirled around in the soft cotton frock. It had tiny black flowers on its hem. She looked over at the looming pile of discarded shirts, skirts and all other sorts of clothes. The mall lady quickly dived behind it and started rummaging through another stack of shorts, her cheeks flaming red.

She looked back at her accomplice and smiled.

He was hot. He was over six feet tall, was lean and muscular, had a firm square jaw, was wearing a black leather jacket and had a permanently tousled head spilling with dark waves.

And his eyes were unique. A perfect blend of green and blue. It was the same shade of sea on post cards, clear yet wild.

All he needs to do to get a girl week kneed over him is to look at her.

Her knees were definitely reacting to the way he was intently assessing her attire.

After a moment his lips quirked up.

"I hope you can ice skate in that."

She couldn't.

She kept falling, slipping and he kept laughing.

But she enjoyed it.

He had decided to not let go of her hand after a while and Anna had wondered if he could hear her heart beating through her palm.

And then came ice cream which turned into a war and then the gift shop.

Anna picked up a silver chalice and held it up.

"How do you know my mom would like it?"

She shrugged and turned it over.

"I don't know if she would but I definitely do."

He took it from her, his fingertips sending pinpricks of warmth and shock through her blood stream.

"I want blue gift wrapper."

She pulled a shiny one out and passed it over,

"Your mom likes blue?"

He shook his head and grinned,

"No but I do."

And then they walked across the cemetery of martyrs, his hands stuffed in his pockets and her fingers busily twining around the gift bag.

Strangely the sight of the cemetery didn't fill her with guilt over not visiting her parents. It almost made her feel... bold. As if the part of her that was strong enough to strive despite all was lying somewhere around there.

"I'm Anna by the way."

He turned to face her and started walking backwards with his hands behind his head. His smile was blinding. She noted his teeth were pearly and his canine slightly crooked. He was dazzling. She'd never seen a boy look hotter in simple washed out jeans and a flimsy black shirt.

"I'm Percy."

"I know."

She tapped her chin then gave in to the question that had been gnawing at her insides since the last couple of hours.

"Why won't you tell me your full name?"

Percy sighed and dropped his hands,

"Percy Wes."

Anna's jaw dropped,

"You...!"

He nodded, and looked away,

"Tell me where you live. You should go home now."

Anna's heart clenched and she realized that his mood was darkening. She wondered if she'd struck a nerve. He was the only and illegitimate son of Neph Wes, the king of all Kytian waters.

And then she knew why.

He clearly loved his mother to pieces and his dad was keeping them apart.

She smiled and patted his shoulder lightly,

"I'll take a cab. And don't worry, I think your mom will love the gift!"

Because you are going to give it to her

Percy sighed and started talking. He'd been eleven when his dad had won his custody on account of his income. He loved music and swimming and was already in for the nationals but was having no such luck with music. He suspected his father had something to do with it as a record label had denounced him after begging him to join them for years.

"I was rejected today too."

She lightly touched his arm again,

"Are you not happy with what you have?"

He smiled down at her,

"I am glad I met you Ms...?

"Blakely . Percanna Blakely."

"Percanna?"

She grimaced,

"Don't ask. It's a family name and doesn't really mean anything."

A small red leaf floated down the tree above them and fell on top her nose.

He picked it up and rubbed it against his thumb,

"I think it holds a lot of meaning."

His words were barely a whisper.

"How?"

And hers were throaty and airy.

"I just do."

And then she stood on her tiptoe and pressed her lips against his. It was sweet and chaste and she was there only for a second.

She took a step back from him and fumbled through her pocket,

"I-I-"

What could she say? She wasn't sorry.

The shadows shifted. She stared across the cemetery boundaries and for a moment she saw a man with blue eyes and a nasty scar across his face.

A sense of déjà vu assaulted her.

But she soon forgot all about it, Percy pulled her in and in a second his mouth was over hers. He kissed her twice. First with all the force he could muster and then more tenderly, his lips soft salty... were burning through her very soul.

She pulled back and looked at him.

"I want to see you again Anna."

He was out of breath just like her. She felt his arms go around her and relaxed against them.

"I think I want to see you a lot."

And then he dipped his head again and touched her lips with his.

From the corner of her eyes she saw the man again. He smiled at her and bowed before turning around and walking away.

She closed her eyes and lost herself as the wind blew her hair around them.

Maybe she wasn't done destroying lives just about yet.
