"What do you see?" Boss asked stacked up against the door. Fixer was next to him peering through the door which had been opened a crack.
"Few guards. No cameras" Fixer replied. The squad had spent a few minutes recovering before stacking up against the door exiting the room, which was a storage room; Boss had found out.
Boss nodded "We take them out quick, no chance for them to raise alarm." He looked to his squad, who all nodded. "Stack up"
"Flash em?" Sev asked as he got into position.
Boss shook his head "Negative, too loud. Everyone paint a target on the HUD. Theres five of them, I'll pick two." Soon enough 3 stormtroopers lit up on the HUD, each showing the name of a Delta above them. Boss peered through the crack and got a look at the hallway, it was large. It's width being about seven or eight meters. Support beams lined the walls, and further down the hallway he saw and intersection. Boss turned his attention to the two unmarked gaurds, who were the farthest away on either side of the hallway. He quickly marked them both and pulled back from the door.
"So uh, what are we looking for again?" Scorch asked before Boss could give the order to move in.
"A security outpost." Sev replied
"Huh?" Scorch deadpanned
Fixer sighed "In Imperial prisons security outposts are a standard. From the size of this place I can assume there are at least a few dozen of them. They're used for control, riot response, general security, and so on." He paused "But most importantly, they have control of the cameras in the prison"
"Oh" Scorch said "And... we would need camera access to find where our "friends" are huh?"
"Exactly right... suprisingly" Fixer replied.
"Stow it, get ready" Boss ordered. The squad complied and readied themselves. "Now" The squad burst out of the door immediately. Boss's gun lined up with one of his targets and with a laser blast to the head he was dead, several other shots were heard before Boss aimed at his last target and fired another blast, dropping him before he could react. Boss scanned the hallway, 5 dead stormtroopers were lying on the ground, each with a scorch mark on their heads. Boss motioned for the squad to move forward, and they continued through the hall...
Boss, and his squad in tow, moved through the hallways silently. Other than some light patrols and cameras, Delta's advance continued unimpeded. The scenery had not changed since they first entered the hallway, but according to Fixer, they were nearing an outpost.
"50 meters, up ahead." Fixer pointed to a door, there were a few windows lining the wall next to the door. "That's the outpost"
Before they could move toward the door, Scorch spoke up. "Hey, anyone think this was a bit... too easy?"
Sev stared at him. "We had to go through hell to get here..."
Scorch groaned "Yeah don't remind me" He shook his head, "nevermind"
Suddenly, the door to the outpost opened, and Boss held up a fist. The squad quickly leaned against the wall and aimed their weapons at the door. However, when no one came out, Boss motioned for the squad to move up.
"Door malfunction?" Sev asked as they approached the still open door.
"Someone might be standing in the sensor" Boss replied. "Stack up, we're goin' in" Boss ordered as they reached the door. Once the squad was positioned on one side of the door, Boss grabbed a flash grenade from his waist belt and threw it inside. A bang was heard from inside as well as a flash of light. "Move!" Boss yelled as he charged in, his squad behind him. The squad moved through the light smoke left behind by the flash, weapons raised. However, instead of blasterfire, the squad was met with silence.
"Huh" Scorch said as he observed the empty room. "You sure we got the right room?"
Fixer nodded "Positive, unless the blueprints are wrong."
"Blast" Boss muttered "Waste of a good flash.."
Suddenly, the door they entered through quickly slid shut. All the Delta's weapons quickly shot to the door.
"Damn! Squad, give me a perimeter! We might've just walked ourselves into a trap!" Boss quickly ordered. The squad complied, forming a circle and watching all the corners of the room. Boss looked around in confusion after several tense moments. "What the hell is going on here?" Just as he relaxed his stance a voice crackled out of the ceiling.
"'Ello? is this thing on?" The voice said.
Boss quickly shot his weapon to the source of the sound, which was a small intercom in the ceiling.
After several second the voice spoke up again. "Hellloooo? Aw... bet those stupid bucket heads hooked it up to the wrong room. Damn idiots are cheap for' Ah reason Ah guess."
Boss looked to fixer, who simply shrugged and shook his head. "Yes, we hear you, identify yourself." Boss said.
"Oh, good!" The voice said cheerfully. "Wait... don't be tellin' me you don't recognize me voice!" The voice said again.
Boss's eyebrows scrunched in confusion under his helmet. "I don't know the name of many Imperial officers."
"Huh? You think I'm- oh... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! You-... pffhh! Ah, nevermind. I ain't no imperial officer fella', but we'll get to that bit later." The voice paused to catch its breath. "So, you don't know who I am... yet. But Ah know who you are! Yes Ah do! Not just any ol' scoundrel could sneak into an Imperial prison!"
Boss cocked his head. "So you know who I am?" He asked still confused as to what was going on.
"Of course, RC-1138, or should Ah call you 'Boss'?". The voice replied.
"No you shouldn't" Boss said as he lowered his weapon. "What do you want, and who are you?" He asked, somewhat demandingly.
The voice laughed. "Ohoho, calm down there skipper! Ah said we'd get to that later" It laughed some more. "As to what I want? Well... I think it's what you want that interests ya' more." Before Boss could ask what he meant, the voice conitnued. "Ah know why ya'll are here, those 'rebels' or whatever. Ah can help you find 'em."
"How do you-?"
"I have my ways" The voice cut off Boss.
Boss grumbled before looking to his squadmates, who all shrugged. "Why shouldn't I just look threw these cameras here and find them?"
The voice hmm'd. "Well, don't reckon Ah would recommend that. Ya see, with of push of a button, Ah can send the whole prison garrison right to your location." It chuckled "And if ya' survive that, it'll be too late anyways. Those rebels wont be 'round here much longer."
Boss decided against asking what he meant, knowing he'd get another cryptic reply.
"So it's help you... or we're screwed" Scorch asked, somehwat heatedly.
The voice laughed "Hey buddy, your words, not mine. -ahem- but yes."
Boss thought for awhile before replying "Fine, what do you need?"
"Whoo! Ah knew ya'll'd come 'round!" The voice cheered. "Now, what Ah need is for you to insert a couple security spikes into some terminals around the prison. Don't worry, they ain't too far away. Ah also got some pull 'round here. You won't have much resistance." The voice paused and some beeping was heard in the backround. "I've marked the terminals on your holo-pad."
Boss grumbled to himself, again, and began to ready his equipment to leave.
"Wait! Wouldn't wanna forget the spikes." A few small rectangular objects popped out of a nearby terminal. "Now, Ah'm guessin' ya'll know how to use those?"
"Yeah, yeah, insert into computer, blah blah blah." Scorch replied.
"Eh... close enough. Just plug 'em into the terminals and Ah'll handle the rest" The voice hmm'd "Oh, and ya'll are gonna want to use your little jammer device your friend has" The squad looked down to the jammer Sev still had attached to his waist belt. "Yeah that one, turn it on before you do any shootin' or the whole prison's gonna know somethin's up."
"Got it" Boss replied "I'm guessing you got access to our comms?"
"Hoho, your a smart one. Ah've got your comm frequency, can't access it without your permission though. I'll send through a request should we ever need tah chat" The voice chuckled "Well, good luck. You get those terminal spiked, I'll tell ya where the rebels are." There was some static as the intercom cut out, and the voice with it.
The squad paused before Boss spoke up. "Forty?"
Fixer nodded "Got two terminals marked here. Ones about 200 meters down the hall... the others... well..."
"I'm not gonna like this am I?" Boss sighed.
Fixer shook his head. "... all the way at the top.."
"Wait" Scorch interuppted "Like... the top of the prison tower?" Fixer brought up a 3-D map of the prison showing the giant spear-like tower. At the very tip, a small room was blinking red.
"Your kidding me..." Boss deadpanned.
"Looks like it gets worse" said Sev as he looked at what the room was labled.
'Commanding officer's office'
'Acting commander: Inquisitor Bane'
"..."
"Shit"
