I'm really sorry about this absurdly late update, but I just wanted to put this here. It's the final chapter. I know it's short, but I hope you guys like where this ends!

"This... This can't be happening," Rosalie said with tear-filled eyes as Hank and Monroe carried their captain's and their king's almost lifeless body back to the mansion. "They're... They're gone... Just like that..."

Monroe shook his head as he sniffed the air. "The king's not completely gone. He's..." He sniffed again. "He's fading, but it's like he's in a coma."

Rosalie's eyes widened in fear and curiosity. "Do you think he's in pain?"

Monroe nodded solemnly. "I can't imagine what losing your mate must feel like. The fact that he's still alive says something about his stubbornness."

"Let's take him to the Grimm. It would be a fitting end for him, I'm sure." Meisner said, wrapping an arm around Adalind, who was more than a little shaken that Renard was gone.

Silently they walked to the room they both formally shared, the two men laying Sean next to Nick.

None of them said a word. All each of them could do was stare silently and bow their heads before leaving the room.

Juliette was surprisingly the first to speak. "I know this is probably the worst time, but I can't just sit here and sob anymore. I have to think about something else." She took a breath. "The entirety of the royal family is dead. Is there anyone left?"

Wu began to shake his head, but stopped himself. "Natalia is still alive."

"Will she take over as head of the Royal family?"

Wu nodded. "That makes sense. She'll be a good ally in the future, I'm sure. I'm not entirely sure if there's anyone else – the royal family is extensive – but Natalia would be the best choice."

Monroe nodded. "All of the wesen world will know about what happened here. I'm sure news has spread. We'll be practically famous for saving the wesen world as well as the human one."

"What does that have to do with anything?" Hank asked.

"It means that we can choose anyone in the Royal family to take over as king – or queen – and the wesen world as well as those who are Kehrseite will back our decision unanimously."

"So, basically, whoever we choose will rule." Juliette said.

"Then we better make damn sure that whoever we pick is going to do the right thing." Hank said.

"What do we do about... about Nick and Sean?" Adalind asked.

There was a long silence. "Someone needs to go check on the captain, see if he's... passed." Hank said.

"I will go," Meisner said. "It is my duty to them both."

The man walked up slowly to his superiors' room. He walked in slowly and quietly; to disturb the sleep of the dead was unthoughtful. Silently he sat on the side of the bed to speak to his king. "You were a great man, Renard, and so was your Mate. You would have been an unstoppable team." He laughed humorlessly. "It seems those keys truly were the downfall of the Royals, just as you predicted..."

His brow furrowed in thought. Something didn't seem right here. Sean Renard had predicted that these keys would be the downfall of their entire family. He remembered the Royal himself giving this tirade over and over again. It was his reason for finding the keys in the first place. It was so the family couldn't completely destroy itself because, deep down, he knew Renard cared about his family.

When his mate got involved, however, things became more complicated and he fought his family. But where did he get the idea that the keys would kill them all?

Natalia.

Natalia Renard told her little brother from a young age that those keys would kill them all.

Then, a crazy thought went through his mind. Could she have planned this whole thing? Could she have planned for the family to kill each other just so she could get a shot at the throne? He shook his head. No, that's completely absurd.

But when he felt the barrel of a gun pressed to the back of his head, he wondered whether he was really crazy at all.

At first Nick couldn't feel a thing. He felt like he should: lifeless. Then, right when he should be seeing that bright light at the end of the tunnel or something of the sort, he felt like he was falling. It terrified him. Maybe I'm going to Hell...

He hit the ground with a thud. As he looked around, he realized where he was.

He was in the backseat of the car that his parents died in.

He was a little confused because he was pretty sure he hit the curb and not the backseat of a car, but he went with it. He watched the car accident happen right before his eyes. He felt no pain, no emotion, he just watched analytically. He needed this. He needed to see how it happened. Right before the car collided with theirs, two pairs of unfamiliar eyes stared right at him.

That's strange, Nick thought. I should know my parents, shouldn't I?

Then, right before the crash happened, time seemed to stop. Nick took this moment to climb into the center of the front seat. As he stared at these two people in the front seat, Nick realized that these strangers were not his parents.

He had never met these people in his life.

Was this what actually happened? Nick thought, emotion flowing through him in heavy waves. Were my parents not in the car? Did my parents survive?

Emotion was filling him, pain filled him as the crash started and he was thrown around the burning car.

I'm dead. Should I be feeling pain?

Nick felt it as his body was thrown sideways, then suddenly he was falling again. He fell faster and faster until he could feel like he was going to be sick. When he landed, he felt like the wind was knocked out of him and he took a large breath, sitting straight up with wide eyes, wincing almost immediately as his muscles protested.

My muscles? Nick mentally questioned. He looked around the room he was in, breathing like he hadn't breathed in years. He was in the room Sean and he shared in Germany. What...?

He felt a presence beside him. He looked over to see Sean's lifeless form. He was about to scream when he felt Sean's familiar presence in the back of his mind through the Bond. He could feel Renard's urgency as he heard his voice. Lay down, Nick! They can't know we're alive!

Nick laid down quickly, closing his eyes. Sean, what's going on? Why are we...? Why am I...?

I will explain as much as I can as soon as we escape. Just focus on playing dead. Use your senses. There are people hiding on the ledge just outside the window. I'm certain they didn't see you sit up.

How certain? He asked.

You haven't been shot, have you?

Nick considered this. Okay. You're right. There are people out there and they didn't see me or else I would be dead. Again. Then he said, why the Hell is there a ledge big enough for people to hide behind outside our room?

Because this place wasn't exactly built for keeping people out. It was more of a luxury mansion.

Just then, Nick heard the door open to their room. He forced himself not to tense up. He felt the bed press down on Renard's side. He relaxed a bit when he realized it was Meisner. He said some tender words that Nick took to heart. He wanted to scream when he sensed someone walking towards Meisner. He could hear the gun as it was cocked, probably pressed to the man's skull.

"Are you one of hers?" Meisner asked.

Good, he figured it out. Renard said.

"That's none of your concern, Meisner."

"I'll take that as a yes."

Meisner probably shouldn't have said the snarky comment as he was pistol whipped by the unknown gun wielder. He must have been knocked out because the dead weight fell hard onto the mattress. "Take him and the others to their selected locations. I'll take care of their bodies."

Sean tensed the moment he heard that voice. Do you know him? Nick asked.

Yes. He said vaguely.

Several minutes passed and Nick could smell gasoline. He was going to burn the mansion down.

When the fire comes, don't move until the heat becomes unbearable. They will be watching. Renard warned. Breathe slow and try not to cough. We'll get out of this, Nick.

Nick obliged. He could hear as the fire was lit and wrapped the room in its flames. The Grimm decided to show itself, breathing slower than Nick could on his own. He reached his senses out far, then told Sean that there was no one around the building for miles.

Get up, but stay low.

Nick opened his eyes to reveal them to be a shining silver. He walked over to the open window. "You ready?" Nick said, coughing as he used his voice for the first time since coming back to life.

Renard grabbed Nick, not giving him a chance to scream when he jumped. Two stories down.

Nick pushed away from Sean, smacking him on the arm hard. "The fuck was that, Sean?! You didn't even give me a warning!"

But Renard didn't seem to be listening. He was looking at Nick with a longing that could only be on his face because he was certain his Mate had died. "Nick..."

Nick smiled knowingly. "I'm okay, Sean. We're alive."

Renard cupped both sides of Nick's face, pressing his lips to the Grimm's. "I love you, Nick. I love you so much. I thought I lost you."

Despite their current situation, Nick smiled against Renard's lips. "I love you too, Sean, but we need to leave in case people come back."

Renard nodded. "Did you sense anyone in the building?"

Nick shook his head. "I don't think anyone died in there."

"Okay, good."

"We need to save them."

"We can't do it alone." Renard countered.

"They're our only allies. Who's left to help us?" Nick asked, sounding defeated. "We can't go back to Portland, either."

Renard nodded. "They've probably already pronounced us dead. If we go back, people will talk when they see us. We need them to think we're dead. That's our only advantage right now."

"What are we going to do?" Nick asked.

Renard paused for a long time. "I don't know, Nick. Unless we can find some allies that will help us, I don't know."

Nick's strange dream came back to him. "I think my parents are alive." Nick said suddenly.

"What? What makes you think that?" Renard asked.

"I had a convincing dream," was all he said.

That seemed to convince Renard, as he said, "That would make sense, then."

Nick eyed Renard suspiciously. "What do you mean?"

"Over the years, people have been speaking of a phantom Grimm who is described with similar features of Kelly Burkhardt. I didn't pay much attention to them, thinking a Grimm was using Kelly's name to her advantage. I never thought there was any truth to it..."

Nick nodded. "Do you think we can track down this Grimm? Even if she's not my mother, she might help us?"

"It's our only shot. We need the Grimms on our side."

"Who did this, Sean? Who could have possibly done all of this?"

Renard looked away. "All of this is because I trusted the wrong person."

Nick looked confused. "Who?"

"Natalia. I thought she of all people would be trustworthy. She meant the world to me as a child. I never thought that she would betray me."

Nick's eyes widened. "She did all of this?"

"I doubt everything went the way she planned, but it most likely turned out better than she expected. I'm sure she didn't plan on our death, else she wouldn't have sided with us. She most likely planed for us to live, then she would kill us when we least expected it."

Nick nodded and Renard could sense his anger. It was a good thing his magick couldn't lash out.

"Let's go find the phantom Grimm."

"Where do we start?"

Nick thought for a moment. "Where was she last spotted?"

"Somewhere in Spain."

Nick sighed. "I guess we head to Spain."

Renard grabbed Nick's hand, entwining their fingers. "Don't worry, Nick. We'll find them."

"Dead or alive?" Nick asked.

Renard didn't answer.

"If they die, I'll destroy everything she's ever known." Nick said determinedly.

"I'll be right there with you, Nick."

On that note, they started to walk. They had no idea how to get there, but they had a plan and they were putting it into action.

And neither of them was completely alone, now, were they?

"You are mine, and I am thine, and no power on earth shall make it otherwise."

Yes, there's a sequel in the works. Thank you all for sticking with it till the very end, even if I'm a crappy updater! Thank you for reading and be prepared for the sequel! I am writing that here soon!
