So, yeah... I'm back. I'm sorry. A million apologies, seriously. Dekito is back, rewritten, and probably better than before. I'm going to try my best to finish it, this time, but I still can't promise too much, being a medical student and all. I'm so busy sometimes, that I have to sacrifice my sleep, so do understand.

Thank you so much for being patient, and please enjoy the first chapter.

"Do you have anything to say for yourself?" asked one Uzumaki Naruto.

His arms were crossed over his chest and his white hokage coat hung over his shoulders down his back authoritatively. In front of him was none other than his son, Uzumaki Boruto, whose latest prank had made the papers due to its extravagance in the worst way possible.

Naruto's migraine had started up again just by thinking about it.

Gaara had come over to discuss the treaty between Konoha and Sunagakure, when they were suddenly attacked by Boruto's plans. Gaara was only overwhelmed at how he had managed to set up a rather complicated prank in the meeting room which ended in swapped voices and neon pink hair. Needless to say it was as impressive as it was maddening.

"The pink hair was a nice touch, don't you think?" Boruto grinned shamelessly.

"Boruto, this is no joke!" Naruto shouted. "You've all but completely disgraced Konoha's good reputation. And just when I thought that we were reaching an understanding."

"At least I'm not a liar!" His son shot back, his face twisting in anger.

Naruto knew what he was angry about. He had promised Boruto that they would spend the weekend before last together – just them. Naruto had quite well prepared for it too. He'd completed all his paperwork and had told Shikamaru to cancel all plans after that, but right before their evening together started, Sasuke had come back with urgent news of trouble around the border of the land of fire.

It was unlucky.

"I'm sorry that our plans didn't work out, Boruto." Naruto sighed. "But there was nothing I could do about it. I am –"

"The Hokage. Yeah! I've heard it, like, a million times." Boruto glared at him and then under his breath continued. "It's your only excuse."

Naruto's eyes softened as he looked at his son. Every day he became more and more convinced that he was the worst father in the world. It didn't help that he couldn't keep his own son under control. Many had told him that Boruto was quite similar to him – even Sasuke, but Naruto didn't think so.

While Naruto was lost in thought, something had caught Boruto's eye.

"What's that?"

"What?" Naruto snapped his eyes to the point of Boruto's focus. "Oh that?"

He walked over to his desk and picked up the cylindrical object that was lying down on it. It was plain grey and closely resembled the material of granite. On closer inspection, it had a hollow right in the middle that opened up on either end.

"Katasuke helped me work on this. It's a bit different from what they've produced so far. To activate this particular device, you need to have Uzumaki DNA."

"So… that would mean you, me and Himawari?"

"Correct. You're mother isn't included because she's originally from the Hyuuga clan." Naruto smiled.

"But what does it do?" Boruto seemed to have taken an interest in Naruto's work for once, and maybe that's why he had just continued talking.

"It actually allows the user to access any type of jutsu in accordance with convenience, so the head of the technology development department of Konoha decided to name it the 'Dekito'. It helps quite a lot in sealing and genjutsu, but we haven't really been able to test it much yet in ninjutsu. There seems to be an instability to it at the strangest moments. We have to run another test next week."

Boruto wide and curious eyes immediately narrowed once more and his eyebrows furrowed.

"It's Himawari's birthday next week. You didn't forget did you?"

The older blond simply stared at his son, unsure of what to say. He hadn't really forgotten Himawari's birthday – he'd been planning it for weeks now, but sometimes it slips his mind; like today when he'd agreed for the next test run. He'd have to cancel it as soon as possible.

Unfortunately, Boruto took his silence in the worst possible way.

"You did! I bet you were just going to send another shadow clone like you did last year. I can't believe you forgot again!" He yelled, and it wasn't exactly untrue, but in the end, Naruto had managed to forget when it was the closest. He tried to think up a way to calm down Boruto, but unfortunately, that had also made him unfocused.

His son used that to his advantage and snatched the Dekito away and immediately put distance between the two of them.

Naruto stayed absolutely still for a moment, not making any unnecessary movement just as if he were dealing with a wild and frightened animal. "Boruto…" He said slowly. "Give that back."

"No." Boruto almost spat and then held it away from him threateningly. "I'm not giving it back, and if you take one step closer, I'll smash it into a thousand pieces."

"That is not a toy, son. We have no idea what could happen if you actually do that."

"Oh, so I'm your son now, am I? You only act like a father when it's convenient for you!"

Naruto tried not to be hurt by those words, but it was proving to be difficult. Boruto was like a landmine; only safe until something triggers it to blow up. Even if it was the lightest touch.

"Give it here."

"What if I don't want to?" His son taunted.

Naruto's patience snapped. "Boruto, if you don't give that to me now, you, young man, are going to be grounded!"

That made it worse, obviously and Boruto held the Dekito high above his head to prove that he could honestly smash it. Naruto, didn't even think it could be smashed, but he didn't want to take the chance of even a crack. All of that filtered chakra that they've managed to store in there could create an explosion that'd leave Konoha as nothing but a crater for all he knew. And he didn't want to go through that again.

"Please Boruto. You have no idea have no idea what could happen. I have no idea what could happen!"

For a moment, Naruto thought that his son's eyes softened, but it was so fleeting that it could've been nothing more than wishful thinking. The younger blond lowered his arm slightly and Naruto felt slightly hopeful.

"You really have no idea what I'm feeling, dad. If you spent one day with me, you'd know." Boruto's eyes were absolutely tragic and it broke Naruto's heart to see that face. It reminded him of his own face so many years before he knew anything of friendship… or family.

"I wanted you to get to know me… and I wanted to get to know you. Was that really so much to ask for?" Boruto asked and now, Naruto noticed the Dekito glowing. The air was crackling with the scent of chakra and he knew that his son had managed to activate the Dekito. "I just want to go back in time and stop you from ever becoming Hokage!"

Naruto eyes widened as electric blue chakra swirled around Boruto in an explosion of energy. His son looked around him in alarm and finally stretched his arm out to his father. Naruto extended his arm towards his son as well, but the chakra repelled him and threw him across the room violently.

The last thing he heard before passing out was Boruto's terrified shout of "DAD!"

"Is he alive?"

Boruto felt a distinct prodding of a finger at his face. "Stop it…"

"He is!" The voice exclaimed triumphantly. "Hey, kid! Wake up!"

Boruto opened his eyes with difficulty and the only thing that blocked his eyes from the sun was a face that hovered right above his head. The backlight made it look absolutely terrifying, though.

It brought him back to consciousness.

"WHOA!" Boruto exclaimed as he sat up, or tried to anyway. He bashed his head against the other person's and the other guy kept his distance and the blond pressed his hand against his forehead in pain.

"Ow… Seriously kid, what's your problem?"

Boruto rubbed his forehead with his forehand and glared at the person in front of him. "I'm not a kid, I'm… wait, dad?!"

His father's doppelganger looked at Boruto in confusion before snickering. "You are 'Wait Dad'? Your parents must've really hated you if that's your name."

Before Boruto could answer, he was punched by someone – a girl as far as Boruto could make out. Then he noticed that this was another doppelganger. One that looked exactly like Sarada's mother when she was a kid. It didn't take long for Boruto to realize that Sasuke and Kakashi were also there. The only problem was that they all looked way too young. Exactly like they did in his father's old photograph.

"Honestly Naruto! That's obviously isn't his name." Uchiha Sakura's doppelganger scolded. She looked at Boruto and her face went slack with realization. "Wait, this guy looks just like you."

She called him 'Naruto', Boruto realized. Was this a gengutsu? He stood up quickly and looked around, trying to spot the stone heads of the Hokage. When he did, Boruto also realized that one of his hands was still holding the Dekito.

"I just want to go back in time and stop you from ever becoming the hokage!"

His words hit him like of Metal's kicks. The Dekito made him go back in time. He took a few steps back and his heart started to beat so loud that it was in his head and he couldn't hear at all what all the younger versions of his father's team were saying to him.

Then everything went black.

When Naruto had woken up, his wife was staring at him with large, worried eyes. She was holding his hand, and by how sweaty his palm felt, she must've been doing it for a while now. Shortly after, he registered the pungent smell of medicament and the white walls surrounding him. He was in the hospital.

"Hinata…"

"Naruto-kun." Hinata squeezed his hand. She never did stop using that honorific. It had become much too precious to both of them. "What happened to you? You were unconscious the whole day – we found you like that this morning on the floor of your office… it was a-a mess and Boruto has been missing since last night… I just don't know what to do right now…"

Naruto's eyes softened and he used his free hand to wipe the tears that were now streaming down his wife's face.

"Boruto… I don't know what could've happened to him." Naruto admitted. "He used the Dekito… he could be anywhere. I'm sorry, Hinata."

Hinata looked at him through her tears and shook her head. "No, don't be. I shouldn't have let you talk to Boruto alone. I should've been with you."

"No…" Naruto said breathlessly, because it was quite constricting in the hospital bed. He caressed Hinata's cheek tenderly. "No, it's not your fault. You didn't do anything wrong. I wasn't there for Boruto and that is a fact. But I'll get him back, I promise."

His wife smiled at him, her ash mauve eyes sparkling. "I know you will. Just don't do it alone this time. I'm here, I always have been."

Naruto closed his eyes and let his head sink back into the pillow. It was throbbing painfully and he briefly thought that he must've hit his head when the chakra repelled him. That didn't stop the small smile that graced his lips however.

"Thank you."

"The future?" Kakashi repeated in disbelief.

Boruto struggled not to squirm under the scrutiny of his current companions. He had fainted right in the middle of training ground seven and apparently, Kakashi had carried him all the way to Konoha's central hospital. When he woke up, he was given only a few minutes to reorganize himself before he was bombarded with questions.

"And you actually expect us to believe that?" Naruto asked dumbly.

"It's the truth." Boruto sulked. "You could take a DNA test if you want. I'm your son. Well… I'm going to be anyway. In another ten years or something."

"The only thing unbelievable here is that somebody actually got married to Naruto." Sakura giggled. "Compared to that, time travel isn't such a surprise."

Naruto seemed to have taken that to heart but Boruto stared at Sakura. "My dad is pretty popular though."

Team seven looked at each other in varying expressions of surprise, confusion and doubt.

"Either way… Boruto, was it? With a name like that, I can guess Naruto named you – we had already taken a blood sample while you were unconscious. The results will arrive in a day or two, but for now, we'll have to take you to the hokage."

"Hokage… who was the hokage during this period again?" Boruto furrowed his brow. "According to the history books… Sarutobi Hiruzen, was it?"

Kakashi whistled. "He studies. Glad you didn't inherit everything from your father."

"Hey!" Naruto said indignantly.

From behind him, Boruto heard a snort. He turned to look at the young face of Uchiha Sasuke.

"This is ridiculous. We should be training right now." Sasuke said and then looked at Boruto with narrowed eyes. "If you're really from the future, then stop wasting our time and prove it. Prove to us that you're Naruto's son."

Compared to how he usually communicated with Sasuke, this was definitely a change for Boruto. It was easier as well though, because this Sasuke was his age and was nowhere near as mature as the one he knew.

"My grandmother's name… Naruto's mother's name is Uzumaki Kushina." Boruto said and his eyes wandered to Naruto. The other blond's eyes were wide and his face was a cross of scepticism and hope. Then he looked at Kakashi whose eyes were also quit wide but simply in surprise. He didn't completely believe that Boruto was from the future after all.

"Are you telling the truth…?" Naruto asked, his voice cracking. "How do you know this? Nobody has ever told me her name before."

"Then, now you know. He can testify for me." Boruto nudged his chin towards Kakashi and his respective Genin turned to look at him.

"You knew?" Naruto looked absolutely betrayed by that fact and it made Boruto feel guilty for being the cause of it. "Why didn't you tell me?"

"Because I couldn't, Naruto." Replied the silver haired man, rubbing his masked face, tiredly. "It's an S-Rank secret which was just let out to three genin."

This fact seemed to confuse Naruto even more. "Why… S -rank? Why would… You mean that there were others who knew about it? Did old man Hokage know? Why was everyone hiding this from me?!"

"It's not her name they were trying to hide." Boruto interjected finally. "If that was so, you wouldn't have her surname."

"What do you mean by that?"

Boruto sighed and then looked at Kakashi once more. "It's not my place to say… Sorry. You'll find out though, even if no one tells you."

Sakura was fidgeting, he saw from the corner of his eye and Sasuke looked stoically thoughtful. They were both on their teammate's side. They didn't have to say it for Boruto to know it. Naruto was having more difficulty trying to cope up on the other hand.

"I can tell you something else." Boruto tried. "It'll probably make you feel better."

Naruto was resigned. "Go ahead."

Boruto hesitated. Would it be alright to do this? Did he have any right to change the past like this? Thinking things through was never his strong point though, so he decided, screw it.

"You do end up becoming hokage."

Naruto gaped, as did his teammates. Boruto honestly couldn't make out what expression Kakashi was making.

"You're not serious?!" Sakura said at the same time Naruto had exclaimed happily "Are you serious?!"

"I'm very serious." Boruto answered grumpily. "The reason I'm here in the first place is because I want to stop it from happening."

That made the smile slip from Naruto's face. Sakura looked indignantly surprised on Naruto's behalf and even Sasuke's eyebrows were raised. Boruto still couldn't make out what Kakashi was doing. "But… why…?"

"…You don't know anything. The Hokage position is miserable! You're always busy, always tired and hardly eat. I won't lie, you're a great Hokage. But, you're a pretty shit dad." Boruto felt tears pricking the corners of his eye. Whatever he could never tell is own father was being laid bare right in front of this version of Naruto. "You spend so much time in your office that it's practically your home, I see you more often on T.V. that I do otherwise and whenever I do see you, you have no time. You're shadow clone spends more time with me than you do, you don't eat dinner with us anymore, you never keep your promises and I don't even know where you and mom stand in a relationship anymore! You're a terrible father…"

Boruto knew he was crying, but pretended not to notice the tears rolling down his cheeks. Naruto looked at a loss, and it was unfair to put this burden on a kid the same age as him. The one he should be telling this to; the one who should be listening to this, is a man he might not see anymore.

"Man… I don't really know what to say." Naruto was rubbing the back of his head, a nervous action that Boruto recognized well. "I mean, I don't have a family. Never have… I don't really know what it's like to miss their attention, but I know what it's like to want it. Sorry that my future-self did that. I'm sure I didn't mean it."

Boruto looked out of the window, and disregarded the fact that he was pouting. "You never mean it."

There was a few moments of uncomfortable silence before Kakashi clapped his hands.

"Okay! I don't know about you guys, but I've had enough 'awkward' for today. Why don't we proceed to the Hokage's office?"

Boruto wiped his nose with his sleeve. "Yeah, alright." He nodded, swinging his legs to the ground.

When he stood up, the blond realized something about Naruto that he didn't realize before.

"Oh God, you're short."

So this is the end of the first rewritten chapter. I do feel that this is going in a better direction than the last one. The writing style has also improved in my opinion. I mean, when I read Dekito a few months ago, I was appalled at the writing. Honestly, I just couldn't continue with it. Hence, I've rewritten everything.

P.S. Some more chapters have already been written beforehand and will be posted in succession after I've proofread and edited them.

Don't forget to review.

Ciao,
Hina~~~
