'So, erm… you like it?' Scott asked, trying not to sound too doubtful about his own work.

'Are you kidding, this is gorgeous!' Kira squealed in return. With one quick movement she wrapped the scarf around her neck. She rushed to a mirror and started arranging the various hanging threads, the twists and turns of the fabric, trying to fold it in so that it would look more than just a mess of tangled strings of wool.

'What do you think?' She beamed once done. He stepped behind her to contemplate the result in the mirror.

'Well…' Scott didn't really want to continue the sentence. No matter how he looked at it, it just looked… wrong. It was almost upsetting how wrong it looked. When he had thought up this amazing plan of knitting his girlfriend a scarf two weeks before Christmas, he hadn't realized that this was not to be the easy undertaking he thought it would. Instead he had spent hours, no, days, trying to even learn the basics. In the end he had managed to churn out one remotely scarf looking monstrosity a day before Christmas Eve. Unwilling to admit defeat, he decided a token of true love came from the heart and from the pain of one's hard labor, not from the wallet. Truth be told, he didn't really have money anyway… Homemade scarf it was!

'Well what?' Kira interrupted his thoughts.

'Well I'm happy if you are happy.' Throwaway line, he knew, but honesty wasn't an option here and he didn't even consider lying.

'I am.' Kira smiled pulling him into a tight embrace. She then resumed looking at herself in the mirror, tugging at a string here, shoving a mass of knitted wool there. He tilted his head to one side. Nope, it still looked hideous. How on earth she could find this… thing… beautiful, was beyond him.

'It highlights my eyes.' Was her quiet comment a few moments later. He stared at her reflection.

'Yes it does!' This time, he could actually agree. Though the strangely shaped scarf did nothing for that, the colors did bring out the gentle hazel tone of Kira's eyes, making them shine as if sunrays were dancing in them. 'You look lovely.' Finally he could say it with conviction.

She suddenly stepped away and he found himself alone in front of the tall mirror, smiling a goofy little smile at himself. How on earth had he managed to land this amazing girl?

'Come on Scott, we are already late, the others are waiting for us!' Kira shouted.

'Coming!' The alpha replied. He then proceeded to put on his jacket. 'All right, I'm done.' He said walking to the front door.

'Let's go!' Kira smiled and he smiled back when his heart skipped a beat. She was still wearing that ugly ass scarf he had knitted her. Before he could stop her she was out the door, bouncing along, almost floating down the street with joy.

In a few minutes they would meet up with Scott's pack. They would immediately notice the scarf. There was no way they wouldn't notice the scarf. It was only Kira who seemed to see it as a sort of postmodern masterpiece. Scott blushed before his expression hardened. He wouldn't be made the joke of the holiday season. Not when it had started so well.

'Wait up Kira!' He shouted, running after her, slamming the front door shut. Now if only he could devise a plausible plan to get her to take that thing off before anyone saw it…
