It was Tyler Lockwood, standing at the doorstep of the Mikaelsons' home with a determined look on his face. I couldn't help but wonder how he had found me and why he had come here of all the places. Surely he must've heard about the Mikaelsons. With their background and long, rich history, I wondered how if there was anybody that hadn't heard of them.

"Tyler, what are you doing here?" I asked. What was he thinking coming over here like this? Did he even know how much danger his life was in? Was he aware of the fact that the more time he spent here, the more likely he was to get killed?

"I was thinking," he spoke out loud, "about how you said that you knew me and that we'd met before. But I was pretty sure I'd never seen you before."

I felt a knot starting to form in my stomach. If Tyler was about to say what I thought he was about to say, then this wasn't the time and definitely not the place to do it. I was all of a sudden completely aware of Elijah's presence next to me and wondered if I could interrupt Tyler for just a second and make him continue this conversation elsewhere.

But he continued to talk, unaware of the consequences that this action could cause and unaware that this was literally a matter of life and death for him.

"And then I realised that I hadn't. You lied to me to steal that expensive looking stone and I'm here to get it back."

I almost held my breath and stared at Tyler wide-eyed. "Ty-" I started to say but Tyler impatiently ignored me.

"No! I need that moonstone back," he growled out. I blinked at him, my body going numb before something clicked in my brain.

From the corner of my eye, I could see that Elijah was getting ready to attack and before I could stop myself, held him back. I gripped his arm tighter and tried not to think about what I was doing. I was trying to restrain an Original vampire, I must've probably lost my mind by time travelling through this alternate dimension. But ignoring all of that, I turned my attention to Tyler to observe him properly.

He wasn't standing near the entrance of the house anymore, he was inside and was walking towards us in a manner that seemed almost predatory. Considering the fact that he was a human and Elijah an extremely powerful supernatural being, it was a dumb move.

I met Elijah's eyes as I came to a conclusion. "He's been compelled," I said to him. "He shouldn't know what a moonstone is or what it looks like or that he had it."

Elijah looked at Tyler for a split second and then looked at me, searching my eyes for a confirmation. But I was sure of it, Tyler had definitely been compelled. The most important question was who had compelled him. There was only one other current inhabitant of Mystic Falls who could want the moonstone that badly and I didn't think that I was ready to meet her just yet.

"Katherine," Elijah said, with a hint of emotion in his voice. I nodded in agreement and then there was a blur of movement.

"Elijah no!" I yelled out as he moved in Tyler's direction. I quickly faced the other way, not ready to watch Tyler die in front of me. My heard pounded in my head and I felt an overwhelming urge to get sick, but the cracking sound of a neck breaking never came.

Instead, I saw Elijah standing right in front of Tyler and whispering softly to him. He was undoing the compulsion and trying to find out where Katherine was residing, most probably.

"Can you get him to forget the whole moonstone incident?" I asked Elijah. "It'll be even better if he just forgets that he had the moonstone in the first place. Then he won't remember that he found it or that we now have it in the first place."

Elijah looked about ready to agree with me but he didn't get a chance to speak as I heard a set of footsteps descend down the stairs to join us. The voice spoke up even before that. Neither Elijah nor I had to turn around to find out who it was.

"Would it not just be easier to kill him?" Klaus stood in front of us with such a predatory glint in his eyes that I feared for my life for a moment.

I let out a shudder and tried to think of an appropriate reason to protest, but Elijah beat me to it. "Niklaus, despite your temperamental issues and reckless behavior, I'm sure that you would agree with me when I tell you that this boy is indeed of more use to us alive than dead."

"How would that be, brother?" Klaus asked, his signature smirk in place.

"Katherine," I said as I figured out what Elijah's angle was. "He can help us find out where Katherine is."

"And how will he do that?" I could see a hint of curiosity and a mild interest forming on Klaus' face.

I smiled at Klaus' question because I'd realised now that Elijah hadn't been trying to do break Tyler's compulsion or find out information from him. Katherine wasn't stupid or inexperienced enough for that. He'd been doing something else entirely.

It was Elijah who answered his brother's question. "By letting us use him as bait."
