Epilogue

End of the Ark

"What the hell do you mean we can't write the piece?!"

I was mad. No, I was beyond mad. I was furious! We finally were able to contact help and get off that awful island along with the… Ark. John was there and boy, was he a mix of emotions. He was happy to see me, scared what happened, anger and sad. He finally made it to Washington, D.C. I got all dressed up in a dark blue dress suit with white lining to meet with the officials … and that's where things got… infuriating. I was opted out of the room and John took point only to come out and told me, that we had basically no story to print.

John frowned as he was just as pissed as I was. "After that story, you, Dr. Jones, and Marion told and well… lack of evidence of anyone. Those monkey suits won't even let us say or print Egypt, Ark, Nazis, or even God in the same god damn sentence!"

I groaned as I ran my hand through my hair. "Not even Belloq." John shook his head. "John, go back in there because I am not going let the Belloq's last thing when they find out his death to be some great archaeologist hero when he worked for god damn Nazis!"

John quickly hushed me as I groaned as I noticed people were watching. "Look, I know you're mad. Me, chief, you are mad."

"We risked our lives. I get stuffed in some in closed spaces! What the hell do they want us to print?!"

"They don't care. They suggested an encouragement article."

I was done. "An encouragement article?!" John nodded. "I'll show them encouragement." I was about to march in there and give them a piece of my mind… John, sadly, knew what I was thinking.

He quickly wrapped his arms around my waist holding me back spinning me around. "No, no, no, no. I just got you back, again. Not going to let you go and get arrested and put in a government jail." I just growled as I pushed him off. "Look, we got two days before we go back to New York. I say we have a pity drink." He gave me a quick kiss on the cheek. "A reunion drink." He did it, again. I relaxed a little. "A 'it's over' drink." He did again, I relaxed a bit more. "A 'bureaucratic are idiots' drink." He won.

I sighed as I looked into his eyes and he smirked. "You know I'm still mad."

"I know."

I smiled as I gave him a quick kick on the lips. "But they are bureaucratic idiots."

"Couldn't have said it better."

John and I both turned to see Indy in a nice suit, looking well as mad as I felt. "Oh, Dr. Jones," John said.

Indy just nodded.

"What did they say?" I asked, but I had a feeling I knew the answer.

"I was there half an hour and I don't know what they were going to do," Indy commented.

Before I could respond, he started to walk out. John and I exchanged looks before we just decided to follow. We finally made it outside and saw Marion waiting on the stairs in her nice beige dress suit as Indy rushed down and we just followed and right past Marion. "Hey, what happened?" Marion asked as she glanced at us.

"Nothing," I stated plainly as we walked down the stairs with John as Indy placed a gray hat on his head.

"Nothing?" Marion questioned confused. "You all look too upset for nothing to happen," she stated plainly."

"We are," I said again plainly.

Marion glared at before looking at John with exasperated eyes. "She says little, and he," she said as she gestured towards Indy. "Says nothing. What happened?"

John shrugged as we continued to walk. "Well, in a word—"

"Fools," Indy finally said as he continued walking down the steps not looking at us. "Bureaucratic fools."

"Yep," John said.

Marion sighed as she finally caught up to Indy. "What did they say?"

Indy finally stopped, turned to look at us looking annoyed and concerned. "They know don't what they've got there."

I frowned as he was right. They have no idea. We ALL had no idea what they had, but… "They don't," I said as I walked to Indy and I smiled as upset as I was and as worried as was I still smiled. "But I'm ready to… let it go and see what I've got."

Indy looked at me confused for a moment before he looked down in thought. I glanced at Marion as she glanced at me. I just winked, and she just knew as she smiled at Indy, though he could partly see it. "Well, I know what I've got right here." Indy didn't answer but slightly looked up. "Come on, I'll buy you drink." She then placed her finger under the tip of his hat and lifted, making him look at her. "You know? A drink."

Indy stood there for a moment before he smirked at Marion and turned opening his arm up a little to loop her other arm in. Indy looked back at me with a smile as John came to my side. "You can come."

I chuckled as grabbed John's arm. "I've spent enough time with you. You make New York look boring."

He chuckled as we all walked down to the bottom of the stairs. He then looked at will smile. "I did warn you."

I just smiled. He never changed not to me at least. "Till we meet again Indiana," I said bit a more solemn than I wanted.

He then looked me as he tipped his hat to me and smiled. "Till then Vanessa Thompson."

He both then turned and went our spread ways with us both holding on to our lovers. I couldn't help but turn back looking at the building as I saw Indy did the same. We both had the same concerns about the Ark. They had somewhat been in our lives for years and though at the moment, we didn't like it… but we let go. We exchanged glances once more not solemn smiles but genuine ones as both faced away from each other and continued.

Sure, Vanessa Thompson, a great reporter, if I'm not being too bold, didn't get the story, heck I didn't get all the answers and sometimes… it's concerning but it's okay. Though I couldn't print a damn thing, I was ready to end the story of the ark. Besides, I needed room for more stories and if I was going to meet Indiana Jones again… I was going to need it.
