I Do Not Own Black Lagoon

Eda sat alone in her room at the Rip-off Church.

The blonde had a bottle of Bacardi 151 in one hand, and a picture in the other.

The picture depicted a much younger Eda, still in high school in fact. She was dressed in a cap and graduation gown. And on her hip, smiling at the camera, was her infant daughter, Jaqueline or Jackie for short.

Eda knew she'd made mistakes when she was younger. But though she regretted getting pregnant back in high school, she didn't regret her daughter. Though, being from a poor family, she hadn't been able to attend college. Sure she had been a good student, but not good enough for a scholarship. She'd done the only thing she'd thought of at the time to provide for herself and her daughter.

She joined the Military, specifically the Marines. And after four years of service, the CIA had recruited her. Two years there, and she'd been sent undercover to Roanapur. That was five years ago.

Eda hadn't seen Jackie since then. Her daughter had been left with her parents when she joined the Marines, she'd sent almost all her money to her family then. But at least then, Eda had leave during which she got to spend precious moments with her daughter. Even then, she'd missed Jackie's first steps, and her first day of pre-school. That had actually been one reason she enjoyed the CIA at first. She'd been able to spend more time with her daughter when she had been working in Washington. She was home most nights.

But when she'd been sent under, Jackie had once more gone to live with her grandparents. And since she couldn't receive her paychecks while undercover, they were deposited in an account that could be accessed by her parents so that they had the money to care for Jackie.

And while she was proud to be an operative of the CIA, to protect her country (it was surprising just what plots against the US she'd been able to stop from information she learned in Roanapur and sent back to Langley), Eda wished that the price hadn't been so high.

She'd missed most of her daughter's life, and hadn't even seen her in half a decade. Jackie would be ten, in fact today was her birthday, and Eda knew next to nothing about her.

She couldn't exactly speak with her family while undercover, it was too much of a risk.

Taking a swig straight from the bottle. Eda only prayed that, if she survived long enough to meet her daughter again, she'd understand why Eda had done as she had, that they could build some kind of relationship.

Her greatest fear was that, when they met again, her daughter would reject her, would have no love for her.

It was a fear that grew sharper every year she was gone, especially on Jackie's birthday. It was that fear that was driving her to drink herself into a drunken stupor before falling asleep. She knew she'd regret it in the morning, especially as there was a shipment of 'bed sheets' she had to oversee the unloading of in the morning. But at the moment, she didn't give a damn.

She just wished she could hug her daughter.

This is a One-Shot, and I have no Plans to continue.

So I've been stuck on a lot of ideas that I'm working on, so I just started brainstorming hoping I could write something in an effort to get rid of my writers block. This idea actually began as a crossover between Black Lagoon and Harry Potter that involved Harry married to Eda, and somehow evolved to this through my various thought processes. Anyway, I hope you enjoy.
