A/N: I won't romance this sorry. ;w; I'm not good with that, I like to write cute friendships on a little cloud or emotional roller coasters involving horrible deaths and heartbreak. Critic's of all kinds are welcomed! Please note that this isn't in the cannon universe, it's in an alternate one were no one figured out that Rikuo is a yokai but the Nura clan did go through all the arches according to the manga.

Rikuo went to school as usual and had a completely normal day. He went to all his classes and did his work with good results, helped with almost all the chores, and went to his club meetings. Oh, and by helped, he did all of them for other people. Earlier, the quarter yokai sent his guards, Yuki-Onna and Aotabo back to the haunted mansion. He was walking through the halls of the school to go home but he heard a lot of voices. They were talking very loudly and sounded angry so he decided to make a detour and go see what was up.

But, unfortunately for him, he bumped into the rest of the paranormal investigation squad. They call themselves, or Kiyotsugu calls them, the Kiyo Cross Paranormal Investigation Squad. Kana smiled at him and he inwardly cringed at his bad luck. He could sense the fear and could recognized it too. This was bad.

"Oh hey Nura! Are you going to go see what all the commotion is too?" the brown haired girl asked, her eyes shining with happiness. She was obviously having a good day or else she wouldn't be so happy hearing so many aggravated voices outside.

"Yea," he answered already knowing how bad at lying he was, "I'm going to check it out now."

"Then we'll come with you!" Kiyotsugu announced loudly, as if he was talking to a large crowd. Maki and Torri nodded and started to head toward the scene.

The tall blonde stopped for a moment and turned her head to face them, "Hurry up or we'll leave you behind!" she said.

Together, they exited the school building from the back and jogged around a corner to the front entrance. But what awaited them, much to Rikuo's dismay, was a pale green and black haired yokai with crimson red eyes, tied to a flag pole. This man was yelling at the students that were laughing at him or talking to each other about what was going on in confusion. The light and dark brown haired boy's stomach twisted.

'Why did I have to be right? Damn it! Zen why did it have to be you here?' he thought, his mind racing of ways to get Zen and himself out of this situation. But, sadly the punks of the school would probably not allow it, not to mention his friend, Yura, is an onmyouji. That just made the situation just the more deadly. The short black haired girl took pride in her job of exorcising yokai, so she didn't care to hide it. Most of the school knows she is, or thinks, she exterminates evil beings from the world.

Recently, yokai sightings have been increasing due to the Hundred Tales Clan's attack so almost everyone in the school knew that the magical creatures truly did exist. Well, except Kiyotsugu that is. Sadly, that man sure looked like one. They didn't want to risk anything, even if he was most likely just a cosplayer here to pick up a sibling or cousin. Hoping to pass it off as just that, he stepped forward and began to speak, "He-"

"A yokai!" exclaimed the onmyouji girl as she pulled out her weird looking purse and opened it. Swiftly, she held a shikigami between her left middle and index fingers, narrowing her eyes at her weak target. She got into a aggressive position and made eye contact with the very annoyed bird. Rikuo knew Yura could sense fear as well so there was no point trying to convince her that this was a simple cosplayer.

He went over his options quickly. One, push Yura into the ground and go untie Zen. Two, tell the truth. Three, try to convince her to let him go. And finally four, protect Zen. Naturally two and three were eliminated immediately. The girl would never let a yokai go since it's her job to get ride of them and hell if he was going to tell her and the rest that he was a yokai himself. Pushing Yura to the ground would not help ease the tension between the humans and the yokai so the only choice left was to attempt to protect Zen without revealing anything.

The almost human dashed toward the pale green haired man and held his arms out in a protective manner. All of the humans were shocked. How could a human who helps everyone with their work help an evil creature like that? But his friends specifically were thinking about the same thing, and that would be what Yura said after looking suspiciously at the short thirteen year old.

"Nura, what are you doing? Get out of the way," she said.

Zen looked up and smirked at his blood brother. "Hey Rikuo, did you come to save me?" he teased.

The said savior glanced over to the captive yokai and asked, "What are you doing here Zen?" But before the older looking male could reply he spoke again, though this time sounding worried. "You're not supposed to be out of bed."

The kids around them stared in awe at how thoughtlessly the weak looking boy spoke to the yokai. Yura was furious that he was protecting and speaking to him in such a manner. Of course she looked calm on the outside, though. However; she couldn't just let them get their way without a good reason, friend or not.

"What's going on here? Why are you protecting a yokai?" The two froze at Yura's question. How was Rikuo supposed to answer that? Simple, he wasn't. He ignored the onmyouji's demands for answers and kept talking to Zen.

"Woops, sorry Rikuo. I forgot that you and your human friends went to school together. It slipped my mind," the sickly man said with a hint of guilt and coughed a little.

"It's fine, but you better not cough up any blood here," said school boy gestured at the short haired girl with a dangerous slip of paper, "She might see it as a threat or something. When we get home I expect you to explain why you would show up to one of the places I never want any yokai to go during the day, mind you."

Everyone in the area could tell the good guy of the school was really bothered by this but not really scared of him or angry at the audacity of the human looking monster.

"Nura!" She kept trying to get their attention and Rikuo finally turned around at the last extremely loud 'Nura'. "Get out of the way please," she said softly.

"Sorry, but I can't do that."

Everyone except the yokai fanatic looked confused at this. Why would this guy persistently help evil? "Why?"

"Because family comes first."
