"Death switch."
Chapter 1
"A master in need."
Pakkun sighted and looked up at the door that went "wham!" one day and never opened again.
It hid a broken man behind it.
Pakkun knew that man.
His name was Kakashi Hatake and he was torn apart by guilt of not doing one thing that started a river of horrific events that murdered so many innocent people and destroyed lives of many more.
What didn't he do?
He didn't die.
The small pug sighted again.
At least that's what his owner claims to believe.
He knew Kakashi was a born protector. That he'll even give his very life to protect the people he cared about.
And he was close to doing so more times than the dog could count.
Too bad death seamed to avoid the jonin no matter how suicidal the missions he was on appeared.
He always came back from them alive…injured but alive.
So much couldn't be said for his comrades though.
Even when Kakashi did everything he could…at least one teammate never returned home to his family after every mission.
"Kakashi open up!" The ninja hound yelled banging on the door. "You can't stay in there forever!"
"You're right." A quiet answer was heard from behind the wooden block.
Pakkun was about to sight in relief happy Kakashi was brought back to his senses when…
"Forever wouldn't be long enough."
After hearing this Bisuke and Bull began whining and scratching the unmovable object while the others shook their heads at their helplessness.
The leader of the small pack didn't know what to do anymore.
His master's guilt was so strong he could almost smell it in Kakashi's scent, almost overthrowing it completely.
"Kakashi please open." He whispered placing a paw on the wood. "Let us help you."
"There is nothing left of me to be helped." The Copy-ninja's voice was barely above a whisper but Pakkun heard every word clearly. "I killed countless of lives, destroyed and crippled millions, made even the ones I cared for suffer unbelievable pain. How can you still not see that I am a murder? You shouldn't be allowed to be near me anymore. Hell I shouldn't be allowed to be in this village at all!"
"That's not true Kakashi and you know it." The pug said in a stern voice. "A real murder is someone who kills people at will. You didn't! No matter what you think none of the things that happened was your fault!"
A minute of silence.
"What do you think Minato thinks of you when he watches you now?" Pakkun knew he was hitting below the belt but if that was going to bring the stubborn brat to reason, so be it. "Seeing his own student punishing himself for something he didn't do. Starving his body, destroying himself with grief, cutting himself with kunai and shuriken, separating himself from people that want to help him. His students: Naruto, Sakura, Sai…hell even Sasuke! His comrades: Gai, Genma, Tenzo and Kurenai. His closest family member Jiraya and heck even his leader Tsunade!"
The loyal dog could sense the growing killing intent cowering his master's body like a cloak as the broken ninja slowly made his way to the door.
Pakkun sighted.
Kakashi is going to hate him for what he just did.
The lone door slowly opened and a single sharingan was seen (Obito's present. He may not be able to have both sharingans but at least he got to keep one) through the small crack, glaring.
Pakkun's fur stood up strait when he heard the man's voice.
"You are wrong Pakkun. I punish myself for something I'm responsible for. If I just died at that the bridge all those years ago none of this would have happened. Obito would avoid being controlled by Madara and live a happy life with Rin and maybe even became Hokage. Rin would marry a man who truly loved her. Probably even have a few kids. Minato sensei would avoid dyeing at the Kyuubi attack which would have never happened and be able to raise his son along with Kushina. Naruto himself would live like a normal boy without having the nine tails sealed in him. The Akatsuki would have never been formed due to the lack of Tobi controlled by Madara. Perhaps even Sasuke's family would have been spared because Itachi would have never encountered somebody who possessed a sharingan, wasn't an Uchiha and knew more about the kekeigenkai then he did at the time. Asuma would marry Kurenai and watch their child grow."
The words were hollow. As if death herself spoke them through Kakashi's mouth.
"As you can see." The visible eye closed. "Everybody on this planet would be better off if I wasn't born." The quiet screak of the old unoiled door handles were all the old pug heard afterwards.
In Tsunade's office
The Fifth Hokage of the village hidden in the leaves glared at the blank wall furiously.
She couldn't help but ask herself jet again why on earth was she here in the office while the invitation to Naruto's party laid calmly on the right edge of her desk.
Why was she worried even though she knows that the young Uzumaki along with Kakashi, Sasuke and Sakura defeated all evil?
What was the problem?
She sighted and pulled a folder from one of the desks many shelves.
The leader of the most popular village in the world opened it.
A lone sight escaped her when she saw a certain half-covered face with an onyx colored eye staring broadly back at her.
You are the problem. She thought sighting.
Naruto's worried reports of Kakashi's odd behavior were covering half of her desk along with a few made by Sakura and occasional form Sasuke and Sai.
Her top jonin didn't show up on training, wasn't seen by the book store even when Jiraya published a new continuation to his "Icha icha" series, didn't response to his team banging on his door, and Tsunade doubted he ate at all, considering the fact, that her ANBU scouts didn't report seeing him near Ichiraku's or any grocery shop during the past month, and she seriously didn't buy the idea of him having enough food to eat thorough the month without getting fresh supplies.
The brat was falling into "depressed mode" again if he hasn't already.
"Thinking about the brat eh Tsunade?" A goofy voice accompanied by slow footsteps echoed through the empty halls.
She let out a deep sight.
Jiraya.
Of course.
"You always could read me like a book Jiraya." The Hokage answered with a small smile. "To bad that skill of yours doesn't work on prevented Hatake brats."
The old toad sanin sighted.
After so many years of endless battle, blood and death…the world was finally safe enough to live in.
Everyone was happy.
Except one single person who never is truly happy.
Jiraya would do anything to take at least a bit of that man's large burden of his shoulders.
But no matter how hard he and Tsunade tried to talk the brat out of blaming himself it never worked.
And the jounin's absence was affecting everyone around him.
Naruto grew so worried for his former sensei though the past days that he refuses to eat ramen with anyone who isn't Kakashi.
Sakura during her lessons with Tsunade was constantly looking through the window towards the Copy ninja's apartment.
Sasuke against The Hokage's orders became Kakashi's private bodyguard. Constantly sneaking around the jounin's house like a shadow and refusing to stop even at night.
Sai became obsessed with painting the whole team together. Only he and the others were in the back, blankly colored and almost gray while Kakashi's figure was the one the picture focused on. He drew the man with such precision and detail you'd expect that to be a photograph rather than a painting.
Gai trained himself and his team till they begged for rest or to the moment Tsunade ordered them to stop.
Kurenai while talking to Tsunade confessed thinking constantly about her broken comrade he already failed once while taking care of her daughter Mirai.
Tsunade new the stubborn brat will never stop blaming himself for everything that happened.
And that he believes in fair judgment.
As such he'll punish himself greatly for taking so many lives and injuring much more.
No body blames him.
Not even Naruto.
And jet he refuses to let them help.
The Konoha leader sighted. Kami have mercy on his soul.
