Chapter 1
Erin's Point of View
I had just received a call from Voight to say my mother was at the station. We hadn't talked much recently despite my best efforts, it wasn't meant to be. She didn't deserve to be apart of my life and she didn't deserve to know my kids. So as I ended the call with Voight I turned to Jay who was playing with Jay J.
"We have to go earlier than expected." I told him.
"Why?" He asked half interested as he continued to play with our one year old.
"Because Bunny is at the station and as bad as she is on her own, she is worse with Hank." I explained.
"What is she doing there?" Jay asked as he put Jay J in his high chair to feed him.
"I don't know something about information on a case." I shrugged as I passed him Jay J's cereal.
We had got so used to our morning routine recently we actually had time to talk and have our own breakfast.
"Think she is telling the truth? Toot toot…." Jay replied.
I looked over at him confused only to see he was pretending the spoon was a train, yesterday it was an aeroplane and the day before that was a cop car.
"Um I don't know." I smiled as I watched the pair.
Before Jay could reply there was a knock at the door.
"Huh looks like Kerry is early." Jay commented as I went to reach the door.
However as I pulled it open I was shocked to see it wasn't Kerry.
"Als?" I whispered in surprise.
"Hey!" She squeaked as she flung her arms around me.
"What are you doing here? Is everything ok?" I questioned.
"Fine mom." She assured me as she released me and turned to Jay.
"Hey old man!" She smirked as she walked passed me into the house.
"Hey kid!" I heard him reply.
However I was more interested in the handsome young man standing at the door looking a little awkward.
"Alex I think you forgot something!" I called into her.
"Oh right sorry. Mom this is Chase." She introduced.
"Hi Chase nice to finally meet you, I would say put a face to the name but Jay already background checked you." I said as I shook his hand.
"Oh um ok." Chase said nervously.
"Under instructions." Jay argued as he too shook Chase's hand.
"Well come in, we don't have long but I need to know what's wrong and why you are here?" I said as I ushered Chase in and closed the door.
"Well funny thing is…." Alex began but my phone rang cutting her off.
"Voight." I sighed as I answered.
He started to whisper angrily about how I better not be long as he was on the verge of killing my mother. I told him to give me 15 minutes and I would be in.
When I turned my attention back to Alex and Chase they were playing with Jay J.
"Honey I'm sorry but that was Voight. Bunny is at the station causing some problems. Can we meet for lunch or something?" I apologized.
"Actually can I come with you? Chase has…..something to do…." Alex trailed off and I knew there was more to the story.
"Sure." I agreed, not pressing for an explanation yet.
A few minutes later Kerry was there to watch Jay J and we all left together.
"Give me a minute." Alex said as she led Chase away.
"What do you think she is here for?" Jay asked concerned.
"I don't know but she better fess up soon." I replied.
A very intense and hushed conversation later Alex approached.
"Ok all good." She said like nothing was wrong.
"Everything ok?" Jay asked.
"Yeah." She lied as we headed for the car.
At the station Voight practically jumped on me when I arrived. He too was shocked to see Alex but Bunny's presence prevented him from giving her a real greeting.
"Hi sweetie." Mom greeted as I walked in.
"Oh is that my granddaughter back in town." She added.
"Huh surprised you know what she looks like." Voight said sarcastically.
"Of course I do!" Mom hissed.
"Guys I really don't have time for this. My daughter is back and I would like to catch up. So can we please deal with whatever this information is so I can do just that?" I scolded.
They both nodded and we headed for the office.
A short conversation about rental cars and drug dealers later I knew we had a case we would have to look into. So I headed out to tell the others while Voight requested a private word with Bunny.
"Als I'm sorry kid but this is going to be a case." I sighed.
"No worries I was meaning to talk to Voight anyway." She replied.
"Why?" I asked both confused and concerned.
"I kind of need a job…." Alex trailed off.
"A job? What happened in New York? Does this mean your back?" Jay jumped in.
"Guys really not the time." Alex complained.
I was about to question her further when Bunny stormed passed and Voight appeared.
"So now that I have that out of my system, any chance of a hug?" He grinned.
Alex laughed and threw her arms around him.
"Gramps I need a favour." She said as she let him go.
"Only back and already looking for something. Well anything for you, what is it?" Voight smiled.
"I need a job." Alex replied…
