The Affair: Chapter 1
I don't own Sailor Moon.
...
Serena Shields sat on her bed waiting. She had freshly turned twenty three just shy of a month ago. The blonde looked down at her wedding ring, it was as beautiful as the day she was presented it. Her blue eyes narrowed at the sight. She was only eighteen years old when she got married. She had married Darien a month after her eighteenth birthday. She took a swig of wine.
Just another anniversary, their fifth anniversary to be exact, and Darien was gone. She didn't mind his absence. The man was out there saving lives being the perfect neurosurgeon trophy husband. Serena did not have to work, she did not struggle, she was very well off. However the twenty three year old did some modeling on the side out of boredom. She was beautiful, why wouldn't she?
Her best friend, Ray, had introduced her to the idea. Serena was ideal because of her petite size, being only 4'11 and under a hundred pounds. The gods were giving enough to allow her to maintain C-cup breast and a pretty figure her entire life. She thanked her metabolism and her genes for her smallness. She wasn't tall like other models, but her legs were very long for her frame and she was well proportioned.
Her long blonde hair was put into a messy bun, she sighed. She was the bored wife of a doctor, wouldn't her mother be so proud? Serena stood and began to strip off her light pink satin nightie. She didn't bother picking it up, for she was not in the mood to be cleanly. The blue eyed model started her bubble bath quietly.
Serena had enough of being second place in her husband's eyes. Stepping in the tub, and drowning in her sorrow, she reminisced about the first time they met, she was fourteen years old. It only took Darien two months to ask her out. He was exciting and so sexy even back then, she knew he'd be different from the moment she saw him. However, she never predicted this would be the man she'd marry. He was four years older than her, and most people disapproved at first. They had beat the odds. Serena smiled at the thought.
Darien was perfect—strong willed, loving, a care taker, respectful, protective, smart, and funny. He was her dream. She was a good wife, never even bothered to look at another man. Serena pledge her entire life to Darien, she knew he'd be the only one for her. But in the past two years, the blonde had felt…neglected. Darien got a raise and a promotion, meaning way more work hours. He barely came home anymore.
Serena felt more alone than ever. She carelessly reached for her cell phone. She knew who to call. The phone dialed two times for it clicked. "Lita?" Serena asked. "We are going out." The blonde hoped her old high school friend would agree. She couldn't stand being alone in their house anymore.
Lita sounded surprised, "He didn't show up?"
"You're acting like this is new." Serena grumbled bitterly.
"I guess that dinner we prepared has gone to waste, lets get you drunk tonight." Lita agreed. Serena laughed, she was not a cook by any means. Lita had came over earlier to help her make this romantic dinner for Darien. Serena wanted to try.
"Thank you, hurry please." Serena smiled sadly. The fact that this was becoming routine made her miserable. Of all her friends, she was the only one who had married. No kids—just married to the love of her life.
"I'll call Mina and Rei." Lita stated and hung up.
Serena quickly jumped out of the bath. She put rollers in her pale hair, and began putting on make up, a smokey eye and neutral lip. She didn't need the make up anyways, but she just wanted to feel… pretty. She couldn't remember the last time Darien complimented her… or even noticed her. They lived more like roommates, the spark had been killed.
The blonde picked a tight black strapless dress and some heeled boots. She was looking for attention, she didn't even care which kind at this point in her life. Serena longed to feel like a valued woman again. She wanted to be appreciated in some way.
Mina was the first to arrive, her long golden locks were up in a tight bun. She wore a white halter top which revealed a generous amount of cleavage and tight black jeans with studded heels. She smiled brilliantly at her blonde friend. "We're here for you." She hugged the shorter girl.
Serena chuckled lamely, "Blondes got to stick together."
Mina winked, "Mrs. Shields, I do believe you should stay the entire night out." The duo walked into the nicely furnished living room.
"Why ever would you say that?" Serena pretended to be shocked. The two blondes immediately began laughing hysterically. It was something only they understood with each other. They were close.
Lita and Rei came together, both with bottles of different arrays of alcohols. Rei was already feeling the effects. "SO what do you give him for the fifth anniversary present?"
"Wood or silver?" Serena rolled her eyes.
"Who even makes up these rules," Mina threw her hand in the air dismissing the notion.
Lita decided she'd have to be the sober one tonight considering the other girls had already began drinking. "I'm driving, here are my ground rules ladies: We stay together. No one leaves without my okay. Get fucked up."
"I can live with that," Ray raised her glass in the air clinking it with the two blondes.
Mina felt alive. The music was going through her very soul at the moment. This club was bumping. The blonde giggled. She was so happy Serena was a model. They were at some VIP club with celebrities. She spotted a certain silver haired man in the corner. His light green eyes seemed to glow in the dark. Mina grinned, deciding this would be her victim for the night. She already knew his name from the radio, but she didn't care at this point.
Lita sat at "their" table respectively ignoring the drinks and games. She had all her friends' cell phones, so that no drunk texts would be sent to ex boyfriends. The brunette jumped at the sound of vibrations coming from Serena's phone. It was her lovely husband, of course. Lita couldn't help but feel bad.
She loved Darien, everyone did. He was as perfect as they could come. The tall woman wished she could find her own Darien… but at the same time she sympathized with Serena. She told her friend this was just a rough patch, but deep down she was afraid for her blonde friend. Serena was tender. The girl was too sweet for her own good. If the marriage ended bad, Lita knew Serena would be too weak to put it together again.
The emerald eyed woman texted her best friend's love. 'It's Lita, can't talk. I have Serena, she's drunk right now. She was upset. Make things right or I'll kick your ass Darien.' She watched the message send, pleased with herself she headed to put the phone back in her purse. It buzzed.
'Where are you, I'll come get her NOW.' Darien replied.
Lita rolled her eyes, 'She's not happy Darien.'
'I need to see my wife, please Lita. I know I messed up. Please let me make things right.'
She could almost hear his voice saying that. Lita smiled a bit, Darien cared so much about Serena. She knew this was just a bump in the road. Lita glanced at Serena and Ray dancing together on the dance floor happily. She was elated that her friend was enjoying herself. Was it a good idea to send her back with Darien yet?
'Does she hate me?' Darien texted again.
Lita sighed, she couldn't keep him from her. She texted him the address, hoping to ease his worrying. Darien was a good man, he knew when he did wrong. And he always did everything in his power to fix things. That man loved his wife more than anything.
Lita watched as Mina flirted her way through life. Mina would never settle down, she loved the game, loved the chase. Mina was in her prime now. The girl wouldn't calm down in till she met the one. Lita grinned, Mina was the one with boy mentality in the group. Ray, on the other hand, tried too hard to find love. The girl was just too bossy and mean sometimes. The raven haired girl was not ready to compromise with anything or anyone. She wasn't ready for a serious relationship. Lita looked down at her green painted nails… what was wrong with her? She was a good person. She suddenly felt sadness. It wasn't fair. She never had boyfriends or anything serious before. Lita simply had short flings that just never ended up well. The brunette frowned. She wanted a family, a husband, a home, something to look forward to.
Lita looked at the blonde in the little black dress again. She wished to have something like Serena someday. She wanted her own version of Darien.
Before she knew it, twenty minutes had passed and a very exhausted looking doctor was at her feet. Mr. Shields seemed to have aged since she last saw him. He was still handsome, of course. His dark blue irises were full of stress, and his once tanned skin was super pale. His dark tresses were messy. He was still in his work clothes. "Hey Lita," He hugged and kissed the woman on her cheek, their usual getting. "Thank you for taking care of her," He smiled earnestly.
"It's funny seeing you at a club, Dare." Lita giggled. "You don't fit the scene anymore."
Darien ran his hand through his hair. "Things would be different if—"
"You didn't put your work first?" Lita finished smug. "Dare, you'll lose her at this rate. She isn't happy. You need to try with Sere. She isn't going to wait around forever. She sounded bad on the phone." Lita stated. She confronted Darien easily. The brunette would always fight to the death for her friends.
"Does she still love me?" His voice croaked nervously.
"Yes." Lita smiled softly. "I know it. I know you love her too, so you better go show her you do." Lita stood. "Get out of here, get our girl and take her home Dare."
"Thanks Lita." He nodded.
The doctor spotted his wide and his eyes bulged out. She was absolutely stunning. They were right, he realized. He hadn't noticed how amazing she truly was. Her curls moved with her against the music. She laughed childishly with Ray. He appreciated the fact that she wasn't with another man. She came here to forget her sadness, not him. He gulped.
He didn't know why he was so nervous. He was twenty seven years old, and he was afraid to go get his wife? Darien rolled his eyes at his own stupidity. He stalked over, and grinned at Serena's surprise.
"Dar-" She was cut off by his lips. Her eyes were wider than ever. "What are you doing here?" She questioned. Her eyebrows scrunched together.
"Can we talk?" He asked quietly as possible. Serena nodded, and the duo left. They remained silent for a majority of the ride home. He wanted to have this conversation at their home. The moment they stepped in he began. She kicked off her heels and sat down gracefully on the edge of their bed.
"Serena, I know I haven't treated you the best lately. I'm so sorry about tonight, and your birthday, and missing our dates for work." He started. "I swear you are the most important thing in my life Sere. I love you more than anything. I've never loved anyone before you." He admitted.
Serena bit her lip. She fought back the tears knowing how much that meant, considering Darien never had parents in his life.
"I want this to work Serena. I have loved you since we were teenagers, and I refuse to let that slip away. I promise I will try harder and work on us." He got on his knees and took her hands. Serena let it go, crying all her frustrations out. "You deserve to be worshiped and loved. I'm failing you as a husband everyday Sere. And today I felt it, I'm losing you." Darien's grip on her hands tightened. Serena stood up shakily.
Darien put his head on her stomach, "Please don't leave me Sere."
The blue eyed model looked down at her husband. She placed a hand gently on his head, toying with his black hair. "Promise me you will try and mean it." She cried.
"I swear." Darien looked up into her watery blue eyes. He rose up to his full height, towering over his tiny little wife. Serena molded into his body, holding on to him tightly. She didn't want to let this go. She loved him to death. Mrs. Shields took in his scent, memorizing how familiar it was and reveling in it for the first time in a long time. She felt safe in his strong arms.
"I love you." She whispered.
"I love you too Serena Shields." He broke out into a smile. He was the world's luckiest man to have her in this lonely world.
The couple kissed.
"Darien…" She pouted in a certain kind of voice. The type of voice only he had ever heard. Darien was the only man Serena had ever been with in any type of level.
"Yes?"
"Show me you love me." She blushed coyly.
