Going to the Movies with Sirius

Summary: Sirius decides to take Harry out to the movies.

AN: The plot bunny for this fic began after watching Dumber and Dumber To. I kept thinking about Harry and Sirius going to see the first Dumb and Dumber movie and this is the result. Enjoy!

Lily smiled as she watched the snowfall onto the ground outside her kitchen window. James was in his study, completing some paperwork and Harry was upstairs still asleep.

The Yule Ball was last night and as Harry was one of the Tri-Wizard Tournament champions, he had to open the ball with the other four champions. Since they had to stay at Hogwarts for the Yule Ball, Lily and James decided to move their family Christmas to Boxing Day. The last time they had to postpone their family Christmas was when Harry was sick with the Flu at age ten.

When the Yule Ball was over, Harry met her in her quarters to floo home.

She had written a list of things she needed from the store for James. He went to the store so she didn't have to and now she had everything she needed for their Christmas dinner later. Since she wasn't home earlier, she would be not only cooking the dinner for later, but she was going to be baking all the sweets she made during the Christmas holiday.

She was broken out of her thoughts when the front door opened and closed.

"Prongs? Lily? Harry? Anyone home?"

Sirius was the only person who would open the front door and walk-in. It didn't matter what time of the day it was. His timing today, however, was perfect.

"Hello, Padfoot!" James greeted his brother in everything but blood with one of those man hugs. They walked into the kitchen where Lily had moved to the stove, fixing a late breakfast for Harry.

"Hello, Evans!" Sirius greeted Lily, calling her by her maiden name.

"It's Potter, Black." Lily was never a fan of being called by her last name, especially her maiden name.

"What time did you and Pup get home?" Sirius asked as he made himself a cup of tea.

"One in the morning," Lily answered, finishing up scrambling some eggs and frying some bacon and sausage.

"It's nearly noon. Is Prongslet still asleep?" Sirius asked.

"Yes," Lily replied.

Without prompting, Sirius headed to the stairs and transformed into Padfoot and went up the stairs and into Harry's room.

Sirius approached the bed, jumped up, lying down on top of Harry. The teenager never budged. Judging by the snores, he heard, Harry was still asleep.

Sirius moved up to lick Harry's cheek.

"Ew, Padfoot! That's nasty!" Harry exclaimed, wiping his cheek.

Sirius transformed into his human form, then starting shaking the bed.

"It's time to get up!" Sirius shouted.

Harry groaned, turned over onto his stomach, burying his head under the pillow.

"Let me sleep for a few more minutes," Harry mumbled from under the pillow.

Sirius wasn't listening. He had managed to pull off the comforter, the blankets, and the sheets, leaving Harry uncovered with only his pajamas on.

"Do I have to tickle you to get you up?" Sirius asked, with a mischievous smile.

Harry threw the pillow at him and got up. "Okay, you win," he mumbled and headed to the bathroom to shower and dress for the day.

Sirius knocked on the door to tell Harry what the plans for the day were.

"Harry, wear something nice. You and I are going to the movies."

The door to the bathroom swung open and Harry poked his head out. "Are you serious?"

"Yes, I am Sirius."

He and Harry looked at each other for a moment before they burst out laughing. The serious pun was something Sirius always did when someone asked him 'are you serious?'

"Okay," Sirius chuckled. "Get a shower and then get dressed. Your Mum will have something for you to eat before we leave."

Harry shut the door, getting into the shower. Sirius walked downstairs to the kitchen to join James and Lily to wait for Harry.

"I'll take the kid and you all get everything ready," Sirius stated.

"What movie are you going to see?" Lily asked Sirius.

"I thought about that Dumb and Dumber movie," He replied. "James and I saw a preview on the TV."

"You mean the movie trailer?" Lily corrected. "Are you sure that's an appropriate movie for Harry?"

"Lily, I don't see a problem with it. Harry's fourteen and I think he and Sirius would enjoy it," James assured him.

"Okay," Lily eventually said. The adults all sat around the table until they heard Harry coming down the stairs.

"Good morning, sleepyhead," James greeted.

"Breakfast is on the counter sweetheart," Lily informed him.

"Thanks, Mum," Harry said with a mouth full of eggs.

"Don't talk with your mouth full," she said, sternly. She watched Ron's table manners and would give Harry a look that said, "I dare you to eat like that." Harry knew if he ever ate the same way that Ron did, his ears would be ringing for a week.

"Well, when you're done with breakfast we'll…." Harry cut Sirius off.

"I'm done." After Harry drank the rest of his orange juice, he took his plate and cup to the sink and headed upstairs to brush his teeth.

"Be sure to brush your hair while you're up there," Lily called.

"Yes Mum," Harry called back.

It didn't seem to be very long when Harry returned downstairs with his trainers and hoodie in his head. He tossed his hoodie over the couch, flopping on the couch to put on his trainers. He put on his hoodie as he walked back into the kitchen.

"Ready?" Harry asked Sirius, putting on his coat.

"Ready." Sirius got up to put on his coat. "We'll see you in about four hours."

After telling James and Lily bye and they would be back later. Harry followed Sirius out the back door and to Sirius's Land Rover parked behind the Potter's Range Rover.

"Sirius, how are we driving your car?" Harry asked.

"Yup," Sirius replied, popping the 'p' and unlocking the SUV.

Harry opened the passenger door and climbed in. Closing the door, he buckled his seat belt, as Sirius started the engine and buckled his own.

"Let's roll," He said before he backed out of the driveway and drove off to London.

OoOoOoOoOoOoO

"Should we get buttery, sweet and salty, or plain popcorn?" Sirius asked, studying the menu.

"Sweet and salty for me. You chose what you want," Harry eventually said, making his selection.

They approached the counter. "Can I help you?" the girl at the counter asked.

"Yes, I would like a large sweet and salty popcorn, a large buttery popcorn, two large cokes and a pack of gummy bears and a pack of gummy worms," Sirius ordered.

With the order made, Sirius moved to the cashier to pay for their snacks. Their snacks in hand they walked into the cinema and found seats in the middle of the rows.

"So what is this movie about?" Harry asked once they were sitting down.

"About two best friends and they go on an adventure," Sirius explained as he went to fully explain the plot. "Something that I think you and Ron would do one day."

Harry laughed. "I could see us going on a road trip together. He'll be asking a dozen questions."

Sirius laughed. During the summer, Hermione and Harry took Ron on a tour of Muggle London with Sirius as the chaperone. Ron was wide-eyed all day, asking Harry or Hermione questions. Sirius only drove them to their location and let the three teens explore by themselves.

Harry looked over at Sirius, glad that he had someone who would take him and do things with, other than his parents.

"Thanks, Sirius, for doing this," Harry said suddenly.

Sirius smiled and ruffled his hair, "Not a problem, Kiddo."

The lights began to dim before the theater was dark and the movie began.

OoOoOoOoOoOoO

"What did you think about the movie?" Sirius asked as they were leaving the cinema.

"I think Ron and Neville would find it hilarious. I'm definitely getting it when it comes out on VHS," Harry decided.

Sirius smiled, knowing that Harry would be explaining everything to Ron and Neville. They had spent time together over the previous summer and they spent a rainy day watching the entire Back to the Future trilogy. As they had spent many afternoons watching television in the Potter's family room when they were little, Harry didn't have to do a lot of explaining.

"Are we going to eat somewhere?" Harry asked.

"We are," Sirius confirmed. "Dirty Burger?"

Harry smiled. "Read my mind."

Together, Sirius and Harry approached the car park, located Sirius's SUV. Once in the car and buckled up, Sirius drove off towards Dirty Burger.

Since they were alone, Sirius thought it would be the perfect time to ask Harry about the Yule Ball.

"So, how was the Yule Ball last night? Did you have a good time?"

"It was fun, I had a good time. Ginny enjoyed herself and that was all that mattered to me," Harry answered, smiling softly as the memory of being with Ginny the night before came back to him.

Sirius didn't miss the smile and smiled knowingly to himself. Ginny was a third-year and the only way she would get to go to the ball was if someone from an older class asked her. Harry asked her, following Lily's advice to ask someone he knew.

"Ron and Hermione got into a row and as far as I know, they still ate. They were arguing when I walked Ginny back to Gryffindor Tower and they still were arguing when I left to meet Mum last night."

Sirius hummed before asking, "When are they too going to just get it over with and snog?"

"That will be will…." Harry trailed off for dramatics. "Never."

Sirius chuckled. He then became serious, no pun intended, when Harry started telling him about a conversation he overheard Snape and Karkaroff, Durmstrang's headmaster. Harry explained that he and Ginny had gone on a walk through the corridors around the Great Hall and stumbled upon them when they reached the courtyard where the carriages were sitting. He and Ginny hid behind a wall and waited until they left before they headed back to Gryffindor Tower.

"What else happened on this walk?" Sirius asked, smiling. He had a feeling Harry was falling in love with the Weasley girl. She was sweet, caring, generous, and kind-hearted, just like Lily was when she was her age. Plus, Ginny was a redhead and Sirius knew Potter men tended to fall for redheads.

"We just talked. About the tournament, Ron and Hermione and how long it will take them to admit they like each other. She shared about her life, things I didn't know about her. I told her about growing up as an only child. I know Ron and I have known each other for a long time, but I don't think I've ever really paid much attention to Ginny. She's just Ron's little sister to me and she's become a good friend to me over the last year."

Sirius smiled knowingly to himself. He felt like he had gone back in time when he heard James talk about Lily, but trying to keep from admitting he liked her.

"He's falling for her," he thought, but out loud, he said, "Well, I'm glad you had a good time, Pup. "

Dirty Burger was a burger place Harry and Sirius discovered last summer when Sirius took Harry to Thorpe Park. Despite having loaded up on frankfurters, onion rings, corn dogs, and funnel cakes at the amusement park, Sirius decided to get dinner before taking Harry home. Needless to say, Harry had overstuffed himself, leading him to have a stomach ache later that night.

When James, Sirius, and Harry decided to go out just the three of them and explore some attractions in Muggle London that opened recently, Sirius and Harry introduced James to Dirty Burger. It quickly became their favorite place to eat without Lily. She disapproved of the place due to the fact there was nothing 'healthy' on the menu.

"What you going to get?" Sirius asked Harry as he looked over the menu.

"Cheeseburger with the crinkle-cut fries and a chocolate milkshake," Harry decided.

Sirius ordered their food, two cheeseburgers with fries, and a chocolate milkshake. While they waited for their food, Sirius and Harry talked about what they were hoping to get for Christmas and what Harry had gotten from Ron, Hermione, and Ginny, and what he opened already from James and Lily.

"Dad and Mum got me a new Quidditch book which Mum let me open. Ron loved the Chudley Cannons book I got him. He tackled me on the bed into a hug." He paused because Sirius started laughing. He was picturing in his mind Ron tackling Harry. "I also got him some licorice wands. Hermione is easier. I got her a book. I figured she would like to read a book for fun, so I asked Mum what she might like and Mum suggested a book that was written by a Muggleborn, who wrote about her story about being a witch. She loved it and was reading it an hour later."

Sirius chuckled, "Leave it to your mother to suggest a book." He paused when the waitress brought their order. "So, what did you get Ginny?"

"I got her a book on Holyhead Harpies. She said one time that she was a fan. I found the book in the same shop where I found Ron's book."

Harry then when on to tell Sirius that Ginny had gotten him a stuffed Hungarian Horntail, Ron had gotten him some chocolate frogs and a book of wizards jokes.

When they were back in the car, Sirius asked what Hermione had gotten him as he didn't mention it earlier.

"Hermione has gone mad. She got Ron and me a book about OWLs. That's next year!" Harry exclaimed.

"Is she already worried about that?" Sirius asked, starting the engine and pulling out of the car park.

"Yes. Between her and Mum, I don't think I'm going to make it," Harry groaned.

Sirius reached over, gently squeezing Harry's shoulder. "You will."

OoOoOoOoOoOoO

"We're back!" Harry called when he opened the front door of Potter's Cottage.

"We're in the family room!" James called back.

Harry and Sirius walked into the family room off the kitchen and kitchen dining area. Harry stopped at the doorway.

"Merry Christmas!" James exclaimed. Lily smiled, standing next to Remus.

"Is this why you wanted me out of the house?" Harry asked, gesturing to the room, decorated with the large six in half tree.

"Yes," Lily replied, approaching her son embracing him in a hug, which Harry returned. He felt her press a kiss to the top of his head.

"Well, let's get started. We've got presents to open and a dinner to eat," James said, excitedly. Harry smiled at the thought of presents, but at the thought of food, his stomach churned. Between the popcorn, candy, burgers, fries, and milkshake, Harry was stuffed. Maybe by the time, they got to the dinner, he would feel hungry.

After exchanging and opening presents, Lily and James moved to the rarely used formal dining room

Lily called, "Dinner's ready!"

At the table, Harry sat at his place next to his Dad and Sirius. Lily and James sat at the head of the table with Remus were across from Harry and Sirius.

To start the conversation, Lily asked Harry about the movie.

"The movie was great. I think we've decided to get it as soon as it comes out on tape."

"Oh, really," Lily said, scooping some potatoes on her plate. "Harry, elbows."

Harry moved his elbows off the table and passed the basket of rolls to Sirius before taking one for himself.

"When are you going back to Hogwarts?" Remus asked.

Harry looked at Lily, who replied, "Saturday before the first day of term. This way, I could get the supply room stocked and Harry could spend some time with his friends before classes."

"So you'll be here for a week!" Sirius exclaimed excitedly.

"Well, what are we going to do?" Harry asked.

"We'll think of something," Sirius assured him.

OoOoOoOoOoOoO

Later that night, Harry was sitting up in bed, reading his new Quidditch book he'd gotten it from Sirius.

He had just finished the first chapter when there was a knock at his bedroom door.

"Come in," he called.

Lily opened the door, entering the room.

"Did you have a good Christmas?" she asked.

"Yes, Mum. Thanks for the clothes again."

Lily smiled as she sat down on his bed. "Well, I decided to save some presents for you to open here. We've been planning this day since we learned that you wouldn't be here for Christmas. I talked to Professor Dumbledore about this a month ago. He said that it was okay for you and me to come home after the Yule Ball and spend some time at home."

Harry closed the book and set it down on his nightstand. James came in, dressed for bed.

"So, did you have a good Christmas, Harry?" he asked.

"Mum, already asked me, Dad. It's been good, even if it's the day after Christmas."

Lily looked back and forth between her husband and son, happy to be home to spend some time with her two favorite boys,

"Goodnight sweetheart." Lily leaned over and kissed Harry's forehead. "Sleep well."

Once she left the room, James sat down where Lily had occupied earlier.

"So, I've got the next week off," James began. "I was wondering if you and I would go and explore London, without Mum."

"Okay," Harry agreed. "Sounds like fun."

James looked at the clock and saw that it was eleven o'clock. "Isn't past your bedtime?"

"Dad, we extended it an hour when I turned thirteen, remember?" Harry reminded his father.

"I remember." James smiled, ruffling Harry's hair.

Harry scooted down his bed to lie down, pulling the covers over his shoulders.

"Goodnight, son," James whispered.

"Goodnight, Dad."

Harry turned out the lights as James pulled the door to halfway closed and headed to his bedroom. He laid there, looking at the ceiling, without his glasses, thinking of what he and James could do next week. With those happy thoughts, Harry went to sleep.
