"It's a gorgeous day" Kagome announced as they walked along. Inuyasha rolled his eyes. "Indeed it is!" Miroku declared, his bold hands quickly earning him a slap. "HENTAI" Sango shouted, storming ahead angrily. Kagome giggled at her best friends, when suddenly Inuyasha stopped, sniffing the air. "What is it?" Kagome asked quietly. "Owl youkai. It's coming this way." At his words, everyone prepared for battle. It burst out of the woods "Any jewel shards?" Inuyasha yelled, and Kagome shook her head.

The owl dodged both the Hiraikotsu and the Tetsaiga, flying up before landing in front of Kagome. "Give me your jewhoel shards!" it crowed, going forward to attack her. She quickly pulled out an arrow, but wouldn't be able to shoot in time. Inuyasha landed in front of her "wind scar!" he shouted, sounding almost panicked. Then, the seemingly not that strong youkai died, and it exploded. A navy blue cloud of poison exploded out and Kagome hid in Inuyasha's shirt.

"It's gone"Sango announced and Kagome opened her eyes. "Shit" she heard Inuyasha curse quietly. "Are you two alright? That youkai gives off a miasma that temporarily blinds you" She informed. Kagome quickly put two and two together, realizing Inuyasha must be blind. She knew admitting it would hurt his pride, so she quickly decided to cover for him. "How long does it last?" She asked, staring off into space blankly. "Oh Kagome….don't worry, you should be back to normal by this time tomorrow" Kagome bit her lip in sympathy for Inuyasha. "I think it would be best if Inuyasha brought me home until then"

When that damn youkai had exploded, I jumped in front of Kagome again, too busy using myself as a shield to bother with my own safety. I was paying for it now, trying not to let the absence of my sight bother me. How was I going to cope? When Kagome said she'd been blinded, at first I panicked. Then I smelled the scent of her lying. She was covering for me! Gods, what a wonderful girl, I could kiss her.

"Yeah, you guys go on to Kaede's hut, we'll just head to the well" I announced, moving my eyes towards their scents. "Sure. See you tomorrow Inuyasha, Lady Kagome" They all climbed on Kilala and left. I sighed in relief "Thanks for covering for me." She hugged me "I'm sorry! It's my fault for being so slow…" I hesitantly hugged her back. "Nah, it's my own fault for not paying attention." I sniffed her hair for a moment before sighing "we need to go to your time or you won't be safe."

She nodded and held my hand, starting to walk. Smirking, I held her back "Wrong way." I smelt her embarrassment "here, get on my back" she didn't move. "Don't be afraid, I'll protect you" I murmured. "Sorry, I can't help it. Humans rely almost exclusively on sight" "you be my eyes" I ordered, smiling as her scent filled with determination.

She got on my back and moved my hair out of her sight lines. I took off running at my usual pace, letting my other senses guide me through the woods. Within minutes we're at the well, and we dropped down through time.

They climbed out on the other side, making their way to the front door. Inuyasha's face filled with confusion "what's up?" Kagome asked. "All your family's scents are old" her eyes widened as she couldn't open the locked door "damn" she muttered, getting the key they kept under the mat. "Did you just curse?" he asked, amused. "Yeah, I must be spending too much time with you" she grumbled, making him chuckle as she let them in.

Once inside, Kagome read a note announcing her family was gone for the week to a spa. She led him up to her room, pushed him onto the bed and gave him his ramen. "So, how bad is it?" she asked, wincing at his growl of "goddamn awful." He finished off the ramen and sighed "my sight is so much stronger than a human's, and even in the dark I can still see." She slipped her hand into his "I'm sorry" she murmured.

"Its fine Kagome" he gently squeezed her hand "I can still hear and smell so it's not really as bad as it could be." He pulled her into a hug. "Inuyasha…" "I can still hear you and smell you and feel you…" he decided he could risk playing with her "and taste you" he gently licked her cheek. She let out a little squeak and blushed, causing him to smirk.

"I'm glad your eyes haven't changed" she murmured "I think I'd really miss it if they weren't amber anymore." An odd look crossed his face "I don't understand why you say you like my demonic features. They make me different from you, dangerous. You have every right to be afraid or disgusted" he muttered "there's no need to pretend for my sake."

She frowned "I'm not pretending. Maybe it's just my era, but you're gorgeous. You're muscular and strong, your hair is beautiful. People here have vampire and hybrid fetishes, so that covers your fangs and ears. People pay good money and risk their eyesight to pretend to have unique colored eyes like yours. That only leaves your claws and abilities, which would be admired by super hero fans. You are super human. My era admires and loves your features and so do I. Especially your ears…" she let out a little excited squeal and gently rubbed them.

He blushed, his eyes closing, leaning into her touch. "Mmm" a low growling rumble started to emit from his chest. "Does it feel good?" she mumbled. He opened his mouth to say 'hell yes', but instead…. "I love you" he whispered, then froze at his own words. Did he just-?

Kagome eyes filled with tears and she hugged him tightly "I love you too" she exclaimed, and he snuggled her close. "Sorry, I didn't mean to just blurt it out like that" he frowned "that's why I don't like people touching my ears. It screws me up, makes me reveal my feelings randomly" he sighed "but I meant what I said, and if you'll have me, I'm yours."

"Of course I'll have you!" she smiled, then her expression grew thoughtful "in my time, when two people are courting, it's called going out. They travel around the village together to spend time with each other. Do you want to do that with me?" He nodded "I'd like that" "as soon as your sight is back" she smiled.

They fell asleep together that night on Kagome's bed, resting peacefully in each other's arms.
