Chapter 1:
I missed Annabeth. I wanted to be with her, where she was, holding her tightly and never letting go. But I couldn't. I had made a promise to myself to stay strong for my little sister. She was the light of my life. The only thing better than having her with me would be having my girlfriend and my sister together with me at the same time.
I called her Vicky, because saying the name Annabeth was too painful to even try to manage. Everyone else called her Victoria, her middle name. Annabeth Victoria Jackson; I picked it out.
Usually I stayed home by myself to babysit Vicky, but my mom had figured out that I was depressed, so now she had called up a babysitter to come and help me. It was a girl, and I thought my mom figured that maybe I would get my romantic life started back up again. It was too soon. It would always be too soon.
When the doorbell rang, I was too lazy to open it, so I shouted "It's open!" The door opened and the babysitter walked in. I almost fainted.
She looked about seventeen years old. Her hair was a curly natural blonde, and it shone in the sunlight. Her outfit was simple-a Mickey Mouse t-shirt, jean shorts, and blue Converse. But her eyes…when she looked at me, they were the most beautiful piercing grey I had ever seen. It was Annabeth. My dead girlfriend.
"Annabeth?" I asked. It was too good to be true. How could she come back from the dead?
"Yes?" she answered. "Is this the Jackson house? And how did you know my name?"
My heart sank. She didn't remember anything. "This might sound crazy, but have you ever been to Disney World?" I decided to start with some simple questions.
She shook her head. "Not that I can recall."
I sighed. "We'll work on that."
My heart was breaking into a million pieces. Annabeth was alive, she was fine, but she didn't remember me.
